Papaya has effects on oral pathogenic microorganisms, it also has anticoagulant quality, amebicidal action, antimicrobial, bacteriostatic and antifungal activity on different bacteria, especially on Streptococcus mutans, this can be exploited in the dental area. The objective of the study was to determine the efficacy of Carica Papaya peel extract (suckling) as an inhibitor of Streptococcus Mutans in students of the dental faculty of the National University of Caaguazú in 2018.

Efficacy of Miswak in Oral Hygiene Maintenance

Miswak has been recommended by world health organization for oral hygiene because of its availability, beneficial effect and affordability. The popularity of Miswak in Arab countries has meant that there have been several studies that have confirmed the ability of miswak to provide effective mechanical and chemical cleansing when used as an adjunct to other oral hygiene aids. Fluoridated tooth paste and manual tooth brushes have been the standard of clinical preventive dental care for over 50 years.However, the objection to the use of fluorides by some parents has meant that these pastes are not universally accepted. There are several non-fluoridated pastes available in the market that include the extract of miswak. There are few studies that have compared these pastes to fluoridated pastes and to miswak as a stand alone agents. Miswak has been recommended by world health organization in 1987 for oral hygiene because of its availability, beneficial effect and affordability. It has been stated that "Several clinical studies have confirmed that the mechanical and chemical cleansing efficiency of miswak chewing sticks are equal and at times greater than that of the toothbrush" this was mentioned and reviewed that it is in fact right but only when used in a regular constant matter with a proper and effective way of plaque removal. This study aims to use a cross over model to study the effectiveness of miswak as a stand alone agent in maintaining oral hygiene in young adults and compare it miswak containing toothpastes and fluoridated toothpastes when used with a manual tooth brush.

It is difficult to obtain patient's compliance with regular interproximal dental hygiene. Dental floss is recognized as an effective procedure to remove dental plaque and prevent gingivitis in the space between teeth, but it is difficult to use and most patients do no do it regularly. Essential oils mouthrinse acts on dental plaque bacteria and helps on gingivitis prevention. These properties may be of interest to control dental plaque accumulation and gingivitis in interproximal areas. The study hypothesis states that there are no differences between the use of an essential oils mouthrinse and dental floss on the reduction of dental plaque accumulation and gingivitis.

Effect of Provisional-Crown Surface Coating on Biofilm Formation

Auto polymerizing poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA), and light initiated resin modified PMMAs, are commonly used for fabricating provisional restorations (PRs) during prosthetic treatment 1. Biofilm accumulated on these PRs may cause caries and inflammation of the surrounding tissue, tempering the outcome of the final restoration 2. Plaque adherence to temporary restorations was significantly increased compared with the untreated reference teeth 3. Biologic and physical properties of the various materials used as PRs were studied extensively 4-8 whereas their interaction with bacterial biofilm in vivo and ex vivo is less characterized. One improvement in provisional restorative materials is the use of liquid polish. It is claimed that these materials gives a high luster finish to provisional bis-acryl restorations and processed acrylic appliances, reduces or eliminates costly and time consuming polishing steps and can be used on all types of direct and indirect restorations and appliances.The effect of liquid polish coating or resin bonding coating on biofilm formation on PRs was not reported.

The purpose of this open-label, randomized controlled clinical trial, is to provide preliminary clinical data (efficacy on plaque and gingival sensitivity, and safety and tolerability of two types of toothpaste, a mouthwash, and a specifically custom-designed toothbrush used for 28 days), as well as descriptive data on the effects of the products on oral microbiota rebalancing and patient acceptability. Eighty-four participants with a history of poor oral hygiene are visited at baseline and after 28 days of administration of the tested products. The control group consisted of 12 participants who continued to use their oral care products without changing their normal routine. At baseline and at the end of treatment (final visit), the oral microbiome is also evaluated in a group of 12 subjects allocated randomly.

Orthodontic treatment is an elective procedure to improve the patient's dentofacial appearance. The complex design of fixed appliances provides a platform that leads to increased plaque accumulation around orthodontic brackets. So, the risk to develop demineralization area adjacent to orthodontic brackets is a major barrier in achieving this goal. Oral hygiene is greatly complicated following the placement of fixed orthodontic Appliances. Molar tube in place are considered for nearly all patients experiencing fixed orthodontic therapy over the whole treatment period, which normally lasts 1.5 to 2 years. To the best of the authors' knowledge, the application and antimicrobial efficacy of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles coating on orthodontic molar tube material has not been integrated clinically. White spot lesions during orthodontic treatment have a documented etiology. Briefly, the accumulation of plaque and food around brackets, bands, wires, and other attachments caused decreased pH and increased S. mutans colonization, which led to the possibility of clinical demineralization. The aims of study are to assess the antimicrobial effect of nanoparticle coated stainless steel orthodontic molar tube material (OMT) with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles in relative to uncoated orthodontic molar tube (UOMT) against the streptococcus. mutans& lactobacllius bacteria that cause white spot lesion around the fixed orthodontic appliance. .

Given that the participation of oral microorganisms in the development of the most prevalent pathologies of the oral cavity is unquestionable, efforts have been made to create agents that allow controlling these bacteria. The objective of this work was to analyze the antibacterial effect of green tea infusion used as a mouthwash on saliva and bacterial plaque. The green tea infusion was prepared at 13% at approximately 90 ° C, being the same applied to 14 participants from the 1st to the 5th grade (experimental group); and to other 14 participants the placebo was applied (control group). The antibacterial effect was determined by counting the colony forming units (CFU) in the cultures of samples of bacterial plaque and saliva, taken before the application of the infusion and immediately after.
