Pilot Trial of KB001 in Mechanically-Ventilated Patients Colonized With Pseudomonas Aeruginosa
Pseudomonas AeruginosaVentilator Associated PneumoniaPseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that rarely causes disease in healthy people, but is a significant problem for critically ill or immunocompromised individuals. Experts estimate that there are greater than 100,000 patients in the United States, Europe and Japan where Pseudomonas pneumonia occurs. Patients with Pseudomonas pneumonia currently represent only about 20% of the patients in the hospital who get Pseudomonas infections.
Study Evaluating Tigecycline Versus Ceftriaxone In Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infections & Community...
Community Acquired Bacterial PneumoniaComplicated Intra-Abdominal InfectionThe main purpose of this study is to compare the safety of tigecycline versus a ceftriaxone regimen in pediatric subjects (aged 8 to 17 years) with complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI) and community acquired pneumonia (CAP).
Strategies To Prevent Pneumonia 2 (SToPP2)
InfectionsHospital2 moreVentilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a serious complication in mechanically ventilated critically ill patients. The intervention tested in this project (swabbing the mouth with chlorhexidine before the endotracheal tube is inserted) could reduce the risk of ventilator-associated pneumonia.
Impact of Statins on Cytokine Expression in Pneumonia
Community Acquired PneumoniaCardiovascular Risk FactorsThe investigators are conducting a study to determine the effects of a cholesterol-lowering medication, called simvastatin on pneumonia. People in the study will be in the hospital because they have pneumonia. The people will also have a medical condition like heart disease, diabetes, stroke or high cholesterol for which cholesterol-lowering medication has been shown to prevent future disease and/or death but are not taking a cholesterol-lowering medication when they go to the hospital. Some people will get treated with antibiotics only and other people will get antibiotics and simvastatin while they are in the hospital. The study will compare the effects the combination of simvastatin and antibiotics has on people with pneumonia to treatment with antibiotics alone.
Humoral Determinants of Immunity to Pneumococcal Infection
PneumoniaPneumococcal Infections2 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether there are differences in the level of antibody to capsular polysaccharides of S. pneumoniae or the physiological activity of such antibody after vaccinating patients who have recovered from pneumococcal pneumonia with pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (Pneumovax) or conjugate pneumococcal vaccine (Prevnar).
Comparison Study of High Frequency Percussive Ventilation With Conventional Ventilation
Respiratory Distress SyndromeAdult2 moreThis study is designed to exam the effects of early management with high frequency percussive ventilation (HFPV) on patients with lung injury. Patients at risk for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) will be enrolled and randomized to one of two groups. One group will be managed with HFPV. The second group will be managed with conventional ventilation utilizing lung protective techniques. The primary endpoint of the study is rate of ventilator associated pneumonia. We hypothesized that use of HFPV in patients at risk for the development of ARDS will decrease the rate of ventilator associated pneumonia when compared to patients managed with conventional ventilation.
Prevention of Pneumonia Comparing Ceftriaxone With Subglottic Aspiration
PneumoniaThe primary purpose of the trial is to compare the efficacy and safety of two measures which claim to prevent early-onset ventilator-associated pneumonia.
Mesenchymal Stromal Cells for the Treatment of Patients With COVID-19.
COVID-19 PneumoniaCOVID-19The purpose of this study is evaluate the feasibility, safety and potential efficacy of an advanced cell therapy product for the treatment of patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia.
Oral Care to Prevent Ventilator-associated Pneumonia
Oral HygieneOral Health2 moreThis study was conducted to investigate the effect of oral care given by two different methods on the development of ventilator-associated pneumonia in patients connected to mechanical ventilators.
Study of F-652 in Subjects With Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pneumonia
COVID-19 PneumoniaThis is a phase 2a, multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled, dose escalation study in adult subjects with COVID-19 pneumonia. The primary objective of this study is to evaluate the overall safety of F-652 in COVID subjects in order to identify safe dose(s) for future studies with adequate patient numbers to demonstrate clinical efficacy.
