Chiropractic and Acupressure for Headaches
Cervicogenic HeadacheTension-type Headache1 moreThis study will investigate the effect of chiropractic treatment with and without the use of an acupressure pillow for cervical headaches. Subjects will be randomly allocated to groups with and without the pillow and will be followed for five weeks. The primary outcome measure will be headache frequency. The investigators predict that the group using the pillow on a daily basis will demonstrate significantly greater decrease in headache frequency over a 5-week interval.

Galantamine in the Treatment of Post-Traumatic Headache
Post-Traumatic HeadacheHead Trauma,Closed1 moreMost patients with CPTH present with additional major cognitive, behavioral and somatic problems. Most drugs used currently have a negative influence on cognition. Therefore, treatment strategies addressing both the headache and cognitive disturbances in patients with CPTH are necessary. (CPTH; Chronic Post Traumatic Headache).

Brain Biomarkers w/Mind-Body Tx in Veterans With Post Traumatic Headache (PTH)
Post Traumatic HeadacheThis project aims to develop and test structural and functional brain imaging biomarkers for improvement in chronic pain from a mind/body intervention perspective in a critical veteran population, namely veterans with post traumatic headache (PTH) associated with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). The project also aims to examine feasibility in a sample of veterans with PTH of performing resting state and structural neuroimaging protocols, and of obtaining active participation and completion of MBSR training. Lastly, exploratory analysis of brain imaging data will be performed to determine if hypothesized candidate biomarkers are associated with positive outcomes from MBSR and determine estimated effect sizes for future studies in PTH population.

Theta Burst Stimulation for Headaches After Traumatic Brain Injury
Post-Traumatic HeadacheTranscranial Magnetic Stimulation3 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate if theta burst stimulation (TBS) can reduce chronic headaches caused by a traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBS is a safe, drug-free brain stimulation technique that uses magnets to create electricity and stimulate nerve cells in the brain. After repeated TBS sessions, the increased stimulation of nerve cells can alter the way the brain communicates with itself (by creating new neural pathways) which, in turn, can reduce pain symptoms. Participants in this study will complete a baseline assessment followed by four weeks of daily home headache assessment. Participants will then receive four weeks of TBS administered three times per day and three days per week. After TBS is completed, participants will complete an additional four weeks of daily home headache assessment and return for a one-month follow-up assessment. Participation is expected to last three months.

Aerobic Exercise and Transcranial Low Laser Therapy in Patients With Central Nervous System Injury...
Post StrokePost-Traumatic Headache7 moreObjective of this protocol will be to evaluate the parameters related to the function of the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory system, through a rehabilitation and training program for people with acquired central nervous system and multiple sclerosis. The study will consist of volunteers with acquired CNS lesions and multiple sclerosis of both sexes, between 18 and 85 years old, and who wander with or without aid devices, randomly divided into 3 groups: Group 1 (cardiopulmonary treatment), Group 2 (cardiopulmonary treatment and transcranial photobiomodulation application) and Group 3 (cardiopulmonary treatment and placebo laser). All groups will receive aerobic training on a treadmill (Moviment®) with the aid of a suspension equipment (BrainMov® Physical Activity Station). The transcranial photobiomodulation (laser diode, λ = 810 nm, beam area 0.028 cm², power of 100 mW, power density of 3.5 mW / cm², energy of 3 Joules / point and energy density of 107.1 J / cm2) will be applied on the skin / scalp and the International System 10-20 at points F7, F8 and AFz will be used as reference for irradiation. Muscular activation, heart rate variability, lung volumes and capacities, fatigability, exercise tolerance, cognition and quality of life will be evaluated before, during, at the end and after two months of rehabilitation. The treatment proposed in this study, using transcranial photobiomodulation, is expected to improve muscle, sensory, cardiorespiratory, cognitive functions and to interfere positively in the quality of life of the volunteers.

Hypersensitivity to Opening of ATP-Sensitive Potassium Channels in Post-Traumatic Headache
Post-Traumatic HeadacheThe aim is to investigate whether opening of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels induces headache with migraine-like features in people with persistent post-traumatic headache (PTH) attributed to mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

Cervicospinal Posture and Pain in Cervicogenic Headache
Cervicogenic HeadacheNeck PainCervicogenic headache (CEH) is a type of symptomatic headache that is characterized by chronic unilateral headache secondary to cervical spine dysfunction. Generally, it gets worse by neck movements, continuous placement of the head in an awkward position and exposure to external pressure on the upper cervical or occipital region. The pain was demonstrated to originate from lower cervical disc prolapse and spinal nerve roots in some studies, while it is suggested in some others to occur due to the upper cervical region as well. Although disturbed cervical alignment has been determined in tension headache and migraine, there are few studies with controversial results in the literature investigating the effects of the change in cervical lordosis on CEH. These contradictory results strongly influence the decision of whether exercise should be added to the treatment protocol in CEH and also the creation of an appropriate treatment program by the clinicians. In light of this background, the aim of this study was to compare the cervical radiographs of patients with CEH and patients with neck pain without a headache.

Active and Passive Cervical Flexion-rotation Tests
Cervicogenic HeadachesMotion limitations have been previously reported in people with headaches originating from the neck/cervicogenic headaches. A test involving flexing and rotating the neck has been found useful to diagnose this type of headache. This observational study investigates this neck motion test when performed actively by the patient and passively by the examiner, then compares the results of motion attained.

Multi Cervical Unit Measures of Cervical Isometric Strength and Range of Motion: A Pilot Study
Cervicogenic HeadacheNeck Pain2 moreThis study is designed to collect normative data on cervical isometric strength and range of motion to supplement an existing normative data base.

Relation Between Cervicogenic Headache and Forward Head Posture
Cervicogenic HeadacheThis study will be designed to determining whether there is a relationship between CGH and cervical posture which may potentially provide physical therapists with evidence supporting the assessment and treatment of abnormal posture in this patient group.
