This study will evaluate naltrexone and cognitive-behavioral therapy treatments for alcohol dependence and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Subjects will be randomly assigned a 6-month treatment of either: 1) naltrexone alone, 2) naltrexone with PTSD psychosocial therapy, 3) a placebo with PTSD psychosocial therapy, or 4) placebo alone. An enhanced medication management intervention will accompany all treatment conditions. Follow-up assessments will be completed at 9 and 12 months after treatment.

This project aims to develop and test an integrated brief intervention to reduce heavy alcohol use and PTSD severity in veterans receiving Veterans Affairs Primary Care. Standard brief alcohol interventions have been unsuccessful in reducing heavy drinking in traumatized individuals and current integrated treatment for alcohol use disorder and PTSD are too long to be delivered in Primary Care. Therefore, this application addresses this gap by developing an intervention tailored to the specific needs of heavy drinking veterans who have co- occurring PTSD. This study aims to incorporate two evidenced-based interventions: Brief Motivational Interviewing (BMI) with Prolonged Exposure for Primary Care (PE-PC). This newly developed brief intervention will be piloted in an open trial to gather veteran participant feedback and develop clinician training and fidelity procedures.

This pilot randomized clinical trial will randomize 60 participants 1:1 to either enhanced usual care or to adapted CETA, a counseling intervention for HIV care engagement plus depression, anxiety, PTSD, and/or substance use.

Psychological distress is commonly experienced by survivors of an intensive care admission, including patients treated during previous pandemics. Whilst data emerges about the short-term impact of COVID-19 on patients and healthcare systems, the long term impact remains unclear. The purpose of this trainee-led, multi-centre longitudinal study is to assess the short- and long-term psychological impact on patients who have survived an admission to intensive care due to COVID-19, and identify possible predictors of anxiety, depression and trauma symptoms in this patient group.

A randomized controlled trial is planned to evaluate a brief, web-based intervention intended to educate about tonic immobility (TI) within a sample of those who experienced TI in the context of a traumatic event.

Currently, our best psychological treatments for anxiety and mood disorders only focus on individual diagnoses. So, there are separate treatments for Panic Disorder, or Depressive Disorder, or Social Anxiety, etc. These 'diagnosis-specific' treatments work well for people whose problems fit neatly into a single diagnosis. However, they work far less well for people with complex problems involving multiple diagnoses, and 50% of patients fail to respond well to these existing treatments. The purpose of this study is to test a new psychological treatment for anxiety and mood problems (the Modular Protocol for Mental Health [MPMH]). Instead of focusing on any single diagnosis, MPMH combines the best treatment techniques into 10 modules to target problems common across all of the different mood and anxiety diagnoses (e.g., intense emotions, negative thinking, upsetting memories, distressing habits). MPMH should therefore be a better treatment for the large numbers of individuals whose problems do not fit neatly into a single diagnosis and for whom any treatments targeting a single diagnosis would leave significant difficulties unaddressed.

A new psychological trauma treatment method is tested on a population (n 100) of adult women who have been sexually traumatized at one specific time 0-5 years before they enter the study.

This study will compare two different types of psychotherapy for Veterans with depression, addiction, and a past traumatic experience. Everyone in the study will receive 12 weeks of group cognitive behavioral therapy focused on depression and addiction, followed by 12 weeks of individual psychotherapy sessions. For the second 12 weeks, half of the people will receive a review of the initial therapy, and half will receive a cognitive behavioral therapy focused on trauma. Everyone will complete research interviews every 3 months for a total of 18 months.

The purpose of this study is to perform an evaluation of a trauma-focused short-term intervention (Narrative Exposure Therapy; Schauer, M., Neuner, F. & Elbert, T.) on a variety of clinical outcome measures (PTSD, Depression, Somatic Complaints, Dissociation) in women after sexual exploitation and women trafficking.
