Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

This study will evaluate single IV doses of Vestipitant (GW597599) compared to 4 mg IV ondansetron for treating breakthrough postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) after failure of PONV prophylaxis with a regimen that includes 4 mg IV ondansetron.

Randomized, Controlled, Single-blind Exploratory Study of the Efficacy and Safety of Wrist and Ankle...

Laparoscopic Sleeve GastrectomyPostoperative Nausea and Vomiting

PONV is the most common clinical presentation after surgical procedures beyond pain. A retrospective study of our center found that the postoperative incidence of LSG was 77.4%. PONV can not only cause postoperative discomfort, but also cause serious complications such as disturbance water and electrolyte balance, wound splitting, incisional hernia, and even residual gastric leakage and aspiration pneumonia, resulting in prolonged hospital stay and increased medical costs. Wrist and ankle acupuncture is a special kind of acupuncture therapy. Through subcutaneous stimulation, the electrical signal is fed back along the nerve fiber into the cerebral cortex, without dialectical treatment, and only needs the appropriate symptoms and signs of the patient. Although only in the wrist and ankle, it can solve a series of problems in the whole body, especially nausea, vomiting and pain symptoms.

Prevention Post Operative Nausea Vomiting in Ambulatory Gynecologic Laparoscopy

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

The purpose of this study is to compare the incidence of Postoperative nausea and vomiting between the intervention group who received multimodal antiemetic management and the control group who did not get this protocol.

Antiemetic Effect of the Addition of Ondansetron to the Morphine Solution in Patient-Controlled...

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

PCA morphine always introduces nausea and vomiting during the postoperative period. Ondansetron can reduce PONV (postoperative nausea vomiting). We, the researchers at Khon Kaen University, are trying to add ondansetron in PCA morphine. Patients receive a small dose of ondansetron when they request morphine.

Dexmedetomidine After Cesarean for the Treatment of Nausea and Shivering

ShiveringNausea and Vomiting1 more

This is a randomized double blinded trial to determine if a small dose of dexmedetomidine can prevent and relieve nausea and shivering, two of the more common complaints after cesarean delivery.

Antiemetic Prophylaxis for Postdischarge Nausea and Vomiting After Hip Arthroscopy

Nausea and VomitingPostoperative

The study is a randomized placebo controlled trial to determine whether repeated postoperative prophylactic ondansetron ("Zofran") administration will prevent postoperative and/or postdischarge nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing ambulatory hip arthroscopy. Ondansetron will be administered in the intra- and post-operative period. These individuals will be followed on postoperative days 1, 2, and 3. It is hypothesized that the incidence of postdischarge nausea and vomiting (PDNV) will be significantly decreased by postoperative prophylactic administration of multiple doses of ondansetron (Zofran).

Opioid Free vs Opioid Based Anesthesia for Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy

ObesityPostoperative Pain3 more

Opioid free anesthesia is an anesthetic technique, in which administration of multimodal analgesia and sympathicolytics provides hemodynamic stability without use of opioids. Such management may be beneficial to the obese patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Our study aims to compare opioid free anesthesia in such patients with standard, short-acting opioid based.

Intravenous Fluids After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

Postoperative NauseaPostoperative Vomiting4 more

Perioperative intravenous fluid (IV) administration has been the standard procedure since 1832 and, is a widely used practice sometimes under inadequate criteria. The present work aims at verifying the clinical need that justifies the common IV fluid prescription on the postoperative (PO) period in patients undergoing videolaparoscopic cholecystectomy (CVL) elective.

Mass-balance Study of [14C]-APD421 in Healthy Volunteers

Post-operative Nausea and Vomiting

Open-label, non-randomised, single dose study in 6 healthy male subjects to assess the mass balance recovery, metabolite profile, metabolite identification and pharmacokinetics of 14C-labelled APD421

Rib Raising for Post-operative Ileus

Intestinal Pseudo-ObstructionManipulation5 more

We are conducting a randomized controlled trial the use of rib raising for post-operative ileus. Rib raising is an osteopathic manipulative technique (OMT). We will recruit all patients undergoing major abdominal surgery and once they have been enrolled, we will randomize them to receive daily rib raising or a control technique where we place hands on the back but do not apply any pressure. In preliminary studies, Rib raising has been shown to reduce post-operative ileus and hospital length of stay by up to 50%.
