A Study of Pre-Malignant Gastric Conditions
Intestinal MetaplasiaChronic Gastritis3 moreTo establish a prospective cohort of individuals diagnosed with gastric pre-malignant conditions (chronic gastritis, atrophic gastritis, autoimmune gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, intestinal dysplasia) to monitor and study disease progression. The Investigators will like to survey cohort participants for lifestyle behaviors and environmental exposures associated with gastric pre-malignancy and cancer. Analyzing patient biospecimens to identify and characterize host and microbiome biomarkers associated with initiation and progression of gastric pre-malignancies.
Vaginal Microbiome and HPV Pre-malignant and Cervical Dysplasia
Human Papilloma VirusVaginal Flora Imbalance2 moreIn this study, the investigators will prospectively collect, analyze and integrate information regarding vaginal microbiome composition and HPV presence in women with cervical pathologies (high-grade CIN and CC) and controls, to construct a large dataset from patients with pre-cancerous cervical lesions and healthy women, to evaluate the personalized contribution of the vaginal microbiome to the CIN-CC sequence.
The GAstric Precancerous Conditions Study
Gastric CancerIntestinal Metaplasia of Gastric Mucosa2 moreGastric cancer afflicts 27,000 Americans annually and carries a dismal prognosis. One reason for poor outcomes is late diagnosis, as the majority of gastric cancers in the United States are diagnosed at a relatively advanced stage where curative resection is unlikely. Gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) is a precancerous change of the stomach which increases risk for subsequent gastric cancer multiple-fold. The Gastric Precancerous Conditions Study (GAPS) is an observational study with two over-arching objectives: 1) improve the non-invasive identification of patients with GIM, and 2) develop biological markers to predict the subset of GIM which will progress onto gastric cancer. To achieve Aim 1, a case-control study (N=300 pairs) matching cases of GIM with age-/gender-matched controls will be recruited form the population of subjects undergoing clinically-indicated endoscopy. Determination of gastric pathology will be made by two, independent gastrointestinal pathologists. At time of endoscopy, a detailed clinical questionnaire is administered by face-to-face interview. Saliva and blood is collected prior to endoscopy. At time of endoscopy, protocoled clinical biopsies (per Revised Sydney Protocol) as well as additional research specimens are collected. Scoring of GIM will be performed based on the Operative Link for GIM scoring system. To achieve Aim 2, patients with histologically-confirmed GIM (N=300) will be followed longitudinally. Biennial endoscopic surveillance will be performed, with repeat biopsies, specimen collection, and histologic scoring. Progression of GIM will be defined as upstaging of GIM score, or development of either dysplasia or carcinoma on any biopsy.
Application of Artificial Intelligence on the Diagnosis of Helicobacter Pylori Infection and Premalignant...
Helicobacter Pylori InfectionPremalignant LesionThe aim of this diagnostic accuracy study is to evaluate the application of artificial intelligence on the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection and premalignant gastric lesions based on upper endoscopic images. We use techniques of artificial intelligence to analyze the correlation between endoscopic images and urea breath test results/histopathological results.
Oral Microbioma and Oral Malignant Disease
Oral CancerOral Squamous Cell Carcinoma1 moreThis case-control study aims to investigate if oral microbioma is associated with developing oral (pre)malignant disease.
Exfoliated Cytology in Detection of Oral Premalignant and Malignant Lesions
Oral CancerDiagnoses DiseaseMicronuclei have been used since 1937 as an indicator of genetic toxic exposure due to their association with chromosomal alterations. They can be detected in exfoliated cells and used as an indicator of recent DNA injury within oral mucosa. The buccal epithelial cells are first to be interacted with the cancer compounds such as tobacco (nicotine), which in turn induces the frequency of micronuclei under the influence of saliva. The exfoliated cell micronuclei assay involves microscopic analysis of oral smears to determine the prevalence of micro-nucleation. The assay is reliable and technically easy to perform, noninvasive and sensitive with limited cost.
Clinical Outcomes of the Endoscopic Resection of Premalignant and Malignant Gastrointestinal Lesions...
Gastrointestinal NeoplasmsBenign Neoplasm of Intestinal TractTo evaluate clinical outcome for patients receiving treatment of suspected premalignant and malignant gastrointestinal lesions at Interventional Endoscopy Services. The primary outcome is curative endoscopic resection. Secondary outcomes include resection technique utilized, rates of en bloc resection and adverse event rates, including infection, bleeding, perforation and death, and one-year survival rates.
Quebec Pancreas Cancer Study
Pancreas CancerPancreatic Cancer9 moreThe Quebec Pancreas Cancer Study is a prospective clinic-based study consisting of clinical, family history and epidemiologic data, with accompanying biospecimens, from patients diagnosed with either pancreas cancer, a related cancer or a related pre-cancerous condition, and their families.
Widefield Fluorescence and Reflectance Imaging Systems and Oral Tissue Samples in Monitoring Participants...
ErythroplakiaFanconi Anemia6 moreThis clinical trial studies widefield fluorescence and reflectance imaging, fluorescence spectroscopy, and tissue samples in regularly examining (monitoring) participants at risk for developing oral cancer. All tissue and cells are made of tiny particles. Some of these particles give off small amounts of light. This light is called fluorescence. Fluorescent imaging use instruments that shine different wavelengths (colors) of light in the mouth taking fluorescence pictures through a portable head light or by taking fluorescent and reflectance pictures through a dental microscope using a digital camera. Fluorescent spectroscopy uses a small probe placed gently against the lining of the mouth and the tissue is exposed to small amounts of fluorescent light that is then collected with a special camera and a computer to be analyzed. Checking mouth tissue samples under a microscope may also help detect abnormal cells. Diagnostic procedures, such as fluorescence and reflectance imaging, fluorescence spectroscopy imaging, and tissue samples, may help doctors detect pre-cancer or early cancer when it may be easier to treat.
Rosuvastatin in Treating Patients With Stage I or Stage II Colon Cancer That Was Removed By Surgery...
Colorectal CancerPrecancerous ConditionRATIONALE: Rosuvastatin may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving rosuvastatin after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. It may also keep polyps from forming or colon cancer from coming back. It is not yet known whether rosuvastatin is more effective than a placebo in treating colon cancer that was removed by surgery. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying rosuvastatin to see how well it works compared with placebo in treating patients with stage I or stage II colon cancer that was removed by surgery.
