Photodynamic Therapy Using Topical Aminolevulinic Acid in Treating Patients With Actinic Keratosis...
Precancerous/Nonmalignant ConditionRATIONALE: Photodynamic therapy uses a drug that becomes active when it is exposed to a certain kind of light. When the drug is active, abnormal cells are killed. Photodynamic therapy using topical aminolevulinic acid may be effective against actinic keratosis. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying how well different photodynamic therapy regimens using topical aminolevulinic acid work in treating patients with actinic keratosis.
Combination Therapy With 5-Fluorouracil and Photodynamic Therapy in Post-transplant Premalignant...
Actinic KeratosisOrgan or Tissue Transplant; ComplicationsThis randomized, intra-patient comparative study is designed to investigate the combination regimen of 5-fluorouracil cream (5FU) and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT), versus PDT alone, for its ability to generate significantly elevated levels of the target photosensitizer, protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), in lesions of actinic keratoses (AKs) and to more effectively treat and prevent recurrence of AKs. The target population comprises patients with solid organ transplants (renal, hepatic), as well as normal (immunocompetent) subjects to control for possible influences of immunosuppression.
T-Cell Depletion, Donor Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT), and T-Cell Infusions in Treating...
Chronic Myeloproliferative DisordersLeukemia5 moreRATIONALE: Giving chemotherapy and total-body irradiation before a donor peripheral blood stem cell transplant helps stop the growth of cancer and abnormal cells and helps stop the patient's immune system from rejecting the donor's stem cells. When stem cells from a donor are infused into the patient they may help the patient's bone marrow make stem cells, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Sometimes the transplanted cells from a donor can make an immune response against the body's normal cells. Removing the T cells from the donor cells before transplant may stop this from happening. Giving an infusion of the donor's T cells (donor lymphocyte infusion) after the transplant may help destroy any remaining cancer cells (graft-versus-tumor effect). PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying T-cell depletion in donor stem cell transplant followed by delayed T cell infusions in treating patients with hematologic cancer or other disease.
Biological, Genetic, and Lifestyle Risk Factors for Developing Colorectal Adenomas or Polyps in...
Colorectal CancerPrecancerous ConditionRATIONALE: Collecting and storing samples of tissue, blood, and other body fluids to test in the laboratory and gathering information about health and lifestyle from participants may help doctors learn more about cancer risk factors. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is looking at biological, genetic, and lifestyle risk factors for developing colorectal adenomas or polyps in participants undergoing colonoscopy.
12-O-Tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate in Treating Patients With Hematologic Cancer or Bone Marrow...
Chronic Myeloproliferative DisordersLeukemia5 moreRATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate in treating patients with hematologic cancer or bone marrow disorder that has not responded to previous treatment.
Green Tea Extract in Treating Patients With Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance and/or...
Multiple Myeloma and Plasma Cell NeoplasmPrecancerous ConditionRATIONALE: Green tea extract contains ingredients that may prevent or slow the growth of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and/or smoldering multiple myeloma. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well green tea extract works in treating patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and/or smoldering multiple myeloma.
Pioglitazone for Oral Premalignant Lesions
Oral LeukoplakiaThe goal of this clinical research study is to learn how Actos (pioglitazone) may affect oral premalignant lesions (OPLs) and/or the risk of mouth cancer. The safety of this drug will also be studied.
Zidovudine, Interferon Alfa-2b, PEG-Interferon Alfa-2b in Patients With HTLV-I Associated Adult...
LymphomaPrecancerous/Nonmalignant ConditionRATIONALE: Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) can cause cancer. Zidovudine is an antiviral drug that acts against the human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1. Giving zidovudine, interferon alfa-2b, and PEG-interferon alfa-2b together may stimulate the immune system and slow down or keep the cancer cell from growing. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well giving zidovudine together with interferon alfa-2b and PEG-interferon alfa-2b works in treating patients with human T-cell lymphotropic virus type 1-associated adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma.
Zoledronate in Treating Patients With Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia 2/3 or 3
Cervical CancerPrecancerous ConditionRATIONALE: Chemoprevention is the use of certain drugs to keep tumors from forming, growing, or coming back. Zoledronate may prevent the growth of cervical cancer by blocking blood flow to cervical intraepithelial neoplasia cells. The use of zoledronate may keep cancer from forming. PURPOSE: This randomized is studying how well zoledronate works in treating patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2/3 or 3.
Rituximab in Treating Patients With Peripheral Neuropathy Caused by Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined...
Precancerous ConditionThis study was done to find out if the investigational medication, rituximab, could help relieve the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy (such as numbness [abnormal protein in the blood] and weakness of the lower and upper extremities) in people who have monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance and people with a symptomatic or smoldering Waldestrom macroglobulinemia. Rituximab is an antibody which attacks a particular type of white blood cell (B Cell). By targeting the B-cells which make the abnormal protein which is involved in causing the nerve trouble, it is hoped that damage to nerve fibers will be stopped and improvement will be allowed to proceed.
