The utilization of external cardiohemodynamic patient assessment, applying non-invasive stick-on contact patches to the mother's neck on either side and chest wall on either side, enables the practitioner to have information about the patient's cardiac function and vascular status beyond simply blood pressure and pulse. This information, once collected, should open the practitioner's eyes to better assess the patient's disease status and her response to therapy. We will use this information to compare the effectiveness of the two standard medications used for treatment of maternal high blood pressure.

This is a clinical research study to look at the incidence of proteinuria (a condition in which urine contains an abnormal amount of protein) caused by shortened infusions (given into the vein over 10 or 15 minutes) of bevacizumab (a medication prescribed for colon, lung, or breast cancer). There are currently no published studies or clinical data looking at how safe shortened infusions of bevacizumab are in relationship to the side effect of proteinuria. We hypothesis that shortened infusions of bevacizumab will result in an increased risk for proteinuria compared to the standard infusions of this agent.

Fabry disease is a rare disorder that often has kidney involvement with increased urine protein excretion. Proteinuria is recognized as an important risk factor for progression of chronic kidney disease. Our hypothesis is that using drugs that reduce urine protein excretion (ACE inhibitors and ARBs) will have a beneficial effect on patients with Fabry disease who already are receiving enzyme replacement therapy. A longitudinal, observational study is being undertaken to determine the utility of these agents in Fabry disease, realizing that these agents are primarily indicated for reducing systemic blood pressure, and most patients with Fabry disease have relatively low blood pressures at baseline.

Among adults with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has previously been reported to occur in approximately 10% of children with HIV-infection. The frequency of CKD, its causes, and its natural history in children and adolescents with HIV-infection have not been systematically studied, particularly in the era of new anti-retroviral medications. The primary aim of this study is to determine the how common pediatric HIV-infected individuals have evidence of persistent proteinuria and CKD.

The Infectious Disease Society of America has recently recommended that patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) be screened for kidney disease on a regular basis. Screening involves non-invasive urine and blood test and a screening program has already been initiated here in the University of Mississippi HIV clinic. This study looks at the effect of this new screening program. Our Hypothesis is that screening for kidney disease is a cost effective and important addition to the care of patients with HIV.

To describe change in ACR and eGFR during study follow-up, and assesss the association of baseline and change in ACR and eGFR, with progression of kidney failure and/or all-cause mortality.

The measurement of 24-hour proteinuria allows an assessment of treatment response in patients with multiple myeloma. But it is difficult and restrictive to make. This study was therefore designed to investigate the correlation between the ratio of proteinuria / creatinine on samples, easier to obtain, and the 24-hour proteinuria in assessing response to this treatment .

This study will evaluate in patients with kidney disease, the role that certain inflammatory and immune mediators play in promoting kidney damage. The investigators hypothesize that certain mediators, (identified in the serum, urine and renal biopsy tissue), of patients with a variety of different renal disease states will provide information regarding their clinical course and that inflammatory and immune patterns in the serum and urine of patients with kidney disease may yield predictive diagnostic information in place of a renal biopsy. The ability to detect and quantify these mediators may lead to earlier detection and treatment of kidney disease in order to prevent kidney failure and the requirement for renal replacement. The study will evaluate serum, blood and urine collected over a one year period post kidney biopsy for the presence of inflammatory or immune mediators, which will be correlated with kidney pathology findings (gene signatures). These gene signatures will be compared to "normal" control specimens obtained from donor transplant kidneys or from normal kidney tissue obtained from patients who require their entire kidney removed for a tumor.

The purpose of the project is to study the relationship between post-bariatric surgery changes in weight and renal parameters.

Chronic kidney disease is characterized with the progressive loss of kidney function over the time and regular follow-up of patients for their kidney function and treatment of complications is recommended in these patients.
