Duodenal Feeds in Very Low Birth Weight Infants
BPD - Bronchopulmonary DysplasiaVLBW - Very Low Birth Weight Infant5 morePremature infants have high rates of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) due to prematurity of the participants' lungs and the need for prolonged respiratory support. These infants are at increased risk for gastroesophageal reflux and aspiration which may exacerbate lung injury. Transpyloric feeds, specifically duodenal feeds, may be used to bypass the stomach and directly feed the duodenum decreasing the amount of gastric reflux contributing to aspiration. Duodenal feeds are equivalent to gastric feeds with regards to nutritional outcomes, and have been shown to decrease events of apnea and bradycardia in premature infants. This study will evaluate the feasibility and safety of duodenal feeds in premature infants. The hypothesis is that duodenal feeds may be safely and successfully performed in premature very low birth weight infants.
Phase II Trial to Modulate Intermediate Endpoint Biomarkers in Former and Current Smokers
Lung DiseasesLung Cancer1 moreThe purpose of this study is to find out if an investigational combination drug called Lovaza (made with fish oils)+Curcumin C3 Complex (made from a root called curcumin) can help reduce the size of lung nodules. Researchers also want to find out if the combination of Lovaza+Curcumin C3 Complex is safe and tolerable.
FAPI PET for Lung Fibrosis
Interstitial Lung DiseaseIdiopathic Interstitial Pneumonias5 moreThis is a prospective exploratory biodistribution study in patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). The purpose of this research study is to determine where and to which degree the FAPI tracer (68Ga-FAPI-46) accumulates in normal and fibrotic lung tissues of patients with interstitial lung disease. The study will include patients with interstitial lung disease who have or will initiate a new ILD medication OR will undergo tissue biopsy or surgery of the lung. The study will include 30 patients, the upper limit for PET imaging studies conducted under the Radioactive Drug Research Committee (RDRC) purview. Participants will be injected with up to 7 mCi of 68-GaFAPi and will undergo one PET/CT scan and one High Resolution CT of the lungs. The study is sponsored by Ahmanson Translational Theranostic Division at UCLA.
Quantra® System With the QPlus® Cartridge in Double-lung Transplantation
Lung DiseasesTransplant-Related DisorderTransfusion in lung transplantation is common, and despite improved techniques and limitations in the use of mechanical circulatory support (MCS), the incidence of massive transfusion has remained stable over the years. The consequences of blood transfusion (blood cells, plasma, platelet concentrates) are deleterious for patients and increase primary graft dysfunction and mortality risk. Whole blood viscoelastic testing devices have shown its effectiveness in monitoring coagulation and fibrinolytic function during cardiac surgery, liver transplantation or trauma. So far, few delocalized biology tools have been evaluated in lung transplantation. The main objective of this study is to determine if the use of a transfusion algorithm based on whole blood viscoelastic test with Quantra® test reduce transfusion during lung transplantation.
TEA, ESB and Paravertebral Block During Single-lung Ventilation for Lung Resection
Lung DiseasesPain1 moreThoracotomy operations are known to be painful surgical procedures, so providing effective intraoperative and postoperative analgesia is so important for all anaesthesiologists. Ineffective pain management interferes with deep breathing, coughing, and remobilization resulting in atelectasis and pneumonia. Ultrasound-guided ESP block is a myofascial plane block that provides analgesia for thoracic or abdominal segmental innervation depending on the level of the injection site. Thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) is considered the gold standard analgesic technique for thoracic surgeries. But the invasiveness of this technique, the rare but serious neurologic complications and the failure rates up to 30% are the disadvantages of epidural analgesia
NIVATS Versus IGAVATS: a Pilot Trial Addressing Biopsy Quality in Undetermined Interstitial Lung...
Lung DiseasesInterstitialThe main objective of this study is to compare two independent groups of patients requiring lung biopsy for undetermined interstitial lung disease (ILD) in terms of diagnostic confidence as determined by histologists.
Senolytics Treatment of Interstitial Lung Disease in Common Variable Immunodeficiency
Common Variable ImmunodeficiencyInterstitial Lung Disease Due to Systemic DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to determine if the supplement, Fisetin, can be used as a treatment option for common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) by comparing its efficacy to placebo.
Intra-tracheal Instillation of Budesonide to Prevent Chronic Lung Disease
InfantExtremely Premature3 morePreterm infants are randomized to received either Intra-tracheal instillation of budesonide using surfactant as vehicle or a placebo. Intra-tracheal instillation of budesonide using surfactant as vehicle would facilitate its delivery to the periphery of the lung and would inhibit lung inflammation and mitigate acute lung injury.
Developing Optimal Parameters for Hyperpolarized Noble Gas and Inert Fluorinated Gas MRI of Lung...
Lung TransplantLung Resection17 moreThe goal of this research is to optimize the MRI system to obtain ideal lung images using Hyperpolarized (HP) Noble and Inert Fluorinated Gases as contrast agents. Lung coils tuned to the frequencies of these gases will be used. This study will take place at TBRHSC in the Cardiorespiratory Department and in the Research MRI facility.
