Clinical Trial on the Use of 25-OH -D Vitamin in Haemodialysis Patients

Chronic Renal Failure

Multicentric randomized Italian clinical trial, open label, not for profit. To evaluate the efficacy of 25-OH-D vitamin in terms of myocardial infarction, stroke, sudden death, death for other causes in chronic haemodialysis patients. Two arms of treatment: 25-OH-D vitamin per os versus no treatment.

Hydroxychloroquine in Cardiovascular Disease in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: A Proof of...

Kidney FailureChronic2 more

Presence of multiple traditional and nontraditional risk factors of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease (CVD) including inflammation in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) contribute to high CVD morbidity and mortality in this patient population. Additionally, the traditional approaches towards the therapy of CVD have little impact on CV mortality in these patients. Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) used as anti-inflammatory in rheumatological disorders, has multiple beneficial properties relevant to the process of vascular disease. The effects of HCQ on atherosclerosis (AS) and vascular disease in CKD is not known yet. Thus, the study hypothesis is that HCQ treatment in individuals with CKD will provide clinically significant benefit in the management of CVD and will provide biological and functional atherosclerotic benefits.

Epodure Therapy of Anemia in End Stage Renal Disease on Dialysis With Epodure Skin Implant

AnemiaEnd Stage Renal Disease

In this End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients who need Erythropoietin (epo) hormone will get it by a small implant of skin using their own skin, the implant will be treated in the laboratory and programmed to secrete Epo. The implant secretes the patients own epo minimizing the need for injections for a period of up to 6 months.

Randomized Multicenter Cross-over Study to Compare the Effect of Physioneal 35 to 40 on the Protein...

Endstage Renal Disease

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate an increase in protein metabolism during treatment with Physioneal 35® (containing lactate 10 mmol/l, calcium 1.75 mmol/l) compared to treatment with Physioneal 40® (containing lactate 15 mmol/l, calcium 1.25 mmol/l) in children and adolescents with end stage renal failure receiving peritoneal dialysis.

Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG) Treatment Protocol in Kidney Transplant Patients

End Stage Renal Disease

The purpose of this study is to test the clinical and laboratory observations of IVIG therapy in the highly sensitized patient. We will study the effects of patients treated with IVIG or Cytogam in combination with plasmaphoresis to modulate the immune response in highly sensitized patients. The goal is to convert a positive crossmatch to a compatible crossmatch that would allow living related transplant to take place or to shorten time on the transplant waiting list.

Study to Evaluate the Safety of Chronic Administration of Simulect to Subjects Receiving a First...

End Stage Renal Disease

The study is undertaken to explore the safety of using Simulect at monthly dose intervals to reduce the need of high dose/level CNI's such as Prograf.

Extension Study to Evaluate Safety and Tolerability of Peginesatide for Long-Term Treatment of Anemia...

Chronic Renal FailureChronic Kidney Disease1 more

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long term safety and tolerability of peginesatide for the maintenance of hemoglobin in participants with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who had received at least 24 weeks of peginesatide treatment in an earlier study.

End Stage Renal Disease

Malnutrition and altered protein catabolism are serious problems in renal failure and hemodialysis (HD) patients. The purpose of this study is to characterize the safety of GHRP-1/AG in subjects with ESRD on HD; to characterize the pharmacodynamics (PD) of GHRP-1/AG in subjects with ESRD on HD by following GH and IGF-1; to describe the relationship between GHRP-1 PD and plasma concentrations of GHRP-1 and des-Ala-GHRP-1; and to evaluate the preliminary efficacy of GHRP-1/AG on nutritional status of subjects with ESRD on HD using subjective global assessment of malnutrition inflammation scores (MIS) and changes in caloric intake.

Effects of Early Correction of Anemia in Patients With Chronic Renal Insufficiency

AnemiaRenal Failure1 more

The purpose of the study is to assess the effect of an early and complete correction of anemia after treatment with epoetin alfa on the rate of progression of chronic renal failure (which involves improper functioning of the kidneys). It also assesses the effect of hemoglobin normalization (correction of anemia) on the need for renal (kidney) replacement therapy, quality of life, blood pressure control, hospital admissions, mortality, cardiovascular events, nutritional status and safety.
