Analyzing Retinal Microanatomy in ROP

Retinopathy of PrematurityNeurodevelopmental Disorders1 more

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a disorder of development of the neural retina and its vasculature that may impact vision in vulnerable preterm neonates for a lifetime. This study utilizes new technology to determine visual and neurological development of very preterm infants in the intensive care nursery, during a period of rapid growth of the retina, optic nerve and brain. The long-term goal of this study is to help improve preterm infant health care via objective bedside imaging and analysis that characterizes early critical indicators of poor vision, neurological development and ROP, which will rapidly translate to better early intervention and improved future vision care.

39946-I Laser and Bevacizumab Treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity

ROP Threshold

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of childhood blindness. Vascular endothelium growth factor (VEGF) is an important component of this disease. The goal of treatment is to reduce the production of VEGF in the immature retina and to eliminate the abnormal growth of new vessels. Currently, laser photocoagulation of the peripheral avascular retina is the treatment standard. Intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF antibody Bevacizumab (IVB) has been used clinically off-label as an alternative therapy. However, VEGF is important for the development of neurons and vessels in the systemic organs in premature infants. Pharmaceutical study showed that IVB was absorbed into the bloodstream. It is unclear if the systemic absorption of Bevacizumab is dose related, and the short and longterm effects on ocular and systemic systems, especially neurological development. In this study, our goals are to establish the pharmacokinetics of Bevacizumab in the premature infant and to compare the short and long-term vision and neurodevelopmental outcomes of infants treated with IVB compared to laser ROP.

A Scan Ultrasonography in the Evaluation of Retinopathy of Prematurity

Retinopathy of Prematurity

The purpose of the investigators study is to determine the relationship between the length of the eye and the rate of change in eye length at each visit with progression of retinopathy of prematurity.

The Efficacy of Paracetamol in Reducing Pain During Ophthalmological Examination for Retinopathy...

Retinopathy of Prematurity

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the major morbidity among preterm infants. Although, local anesthetics reduce pain to some extent, eye examination still remains as a painful procedure. The investigators aimed to evaluate the effect of oral paracetamol combined with local anesthetics for pain relief during ophthalmological examination.

Performance of a Photoscreener for Vision Screening in a Haitian Pediatric Population

AmblyopiaMyopia8 more

Screening of haitian children between the ages of 3 and 6 years old for amblyogenic risk factors with the use of the Spot photoscreener. The photoscreener results will be compared to the complete ophthalmologic evaluation. Primarily, this will allow evaluation of the performance of the spot photoscreener in the haitian children population. Secondarily, this study will gather epidemiological information on vision problems in the haitian children population.

VEGF In Systemic Circulation Of ROP-infants

Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)

The purpose of this study is to measure systemic levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and other proteins (e.g. IGF-1) in the systemic circulation of infants with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) following ocular treatment with either intravitreal injections of anti-VEGF agents or retinal laser photocoagulation. The primary aim is to determine if serum VEGF levels change after treatment.

Refractive Error and Biometry in Retinopathy of Prematurity

Retinopathy of Prematurity

The investigators compared long-term refractive and biometric outcomes in children with retinopathy of prematurity who received two different anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agents.

Time Outside Target Oxygen Saturation Range in Preterm Infants and Long Term Outcomes and Preterm...

Retinopathy of Prematurity

The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a relationship between time spent out the targeted oxygen saturation range in preterm infants is associated with long-term outcomes such as Retinopathy of Prematurity.

Heredity of Retinal Vessel Tortuosity

Retinopathy of Prematurity

The purpose of this study is to asses the relative influence of genetic and environmental influence on the tortuosity of retinal arterioles in eyes of 218 healthy Danish twins aged 20-46 years. We expect to find a high heredity for the variation in tortuosity. This knowledge can contribute to the elucidation of the pathology in retinal diseases.
