Long term safety (52 weeks) of GW685698X on the nasal mucosa via nasal biopsy with an active control group (Nasonex®) and a healthy volunteers control group in subjects 18 years old with perennial allergic rhinitis . Allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory disorder of the upper airway that occurs following allergen exposure. Perennial allergic rhinitis is triggered by house dust mites, animal dander, etc., possibly causing symptoms year-round including nasal congestion, rhinorrhea and/or nasal itching.

This is a study of the effectiveness and safety of a new nasal spray for the relief of the symptoms of seasonal allergies. The agents being compared are: R926112 (a novel anti-allergy medicine), Beconase (beclomethasone dipropionate, an established FDA approved steroid treatment), and an inactive placebo. The study hypothesis is that R926112 will be superior to placebo at the end of a week of testing and evaluation. The study does not have the power to determine how R926112 compares to Beconase.

Allergic Rhinoconjunctivitis

This pilot study is a Phase IV, single center, placebo-controlled, parallel study design conducted using the Environmental Exposure Unit (EEU). The study will aim to be determine whether there are any benefits from Grastek® for the treatment of birch-pollen induced allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. Grastek® is a Health Canada and FDA approved sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for the treatment of grass-pollen induced allergic rhinoconjunctivitis. The EEU provides a closed environment in which participants are exposed to a predetermined, controlled, constant level of airborne pollen. 96 participants will complete this study and will either receive Grastek® or placebo in a 1:1 ratio. The study will consist of a screening visit, a pre-treatment pollen exposure visit, 60 days of treatment with Grastek® or placebo, two treatment visits and a follow-up pollen exposure visit.
