Open Study to Evaluate the Safety of Levocetirizine in Young Children (2 - 6 Years) Suffering From...

Allergic Rhinitis

4 week open study to evaluate the safety of levocetirizine in young children (2 - 6 years) suffering from allergic rhinitis. As secondary objective, this study will assess the efficacy of the treatment by means of the T4SS (Total 4 symptoms scores of allergic rhinitis) and each of the 4 individual rhinitis symptom scores

Evaluation of Subcutaneous Immunotherapy Towards Pollen in Children

RhinitisAllergic3 more

The objective is to prospectively explore associations between immunological parameters in blood and clinical effect of subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) in children with severe allergy towards pollen. Half of the children will receive SCIT while the other half will start SCIT after the study is finished. Clinical evaluations of symptoms and an immunological survey will be performed before start of SCIT and after one year of treatment. Some of the immunological parameters will also be checked after 6 months of treatment

Bioequivalence of GW483100 10 Milligram (mg) Tablets in Healthy Subjects Under Fasting Conditions...

Respiratory DisordersAsthma and Rhinitis

This study is conducted to determine whether the test product (GW483100 10 mg containing montelukast sodium equivalent to 10 mg of montelukast) is bioequivalent to the reference montelukast sodium 10 mg tablets (innovator product) in healthy adult volunteers under fasting conditions. This is an open-label, balanced, randomized, single dose, two-way crossover study, enrolling 32 healthy human subjects to ensure at least 28 subjects complete the study. Each subject enrolled will participate in two treatment periods separated by a washout period of at least 7 days and no more than 14 days between dosing occasions. Total duration in the study for each subject will be approximately 7 weeks from screening to the subject's last visit.

Clinical Validation of Birch Pollen in the EEU

Allergic Rhinitis

The EEU has proven effective in multiple studies evaluating various aspects of seasonal allergic rhinitis. All previous EEU clinical trials have utilized ragweed or grass pollen as the allergen of choice for dispersal, due to the local population, but many emerging treatments for allergic rhinitis are allergen specific, thus it is desirable to expand the repertoire of pollen selection for use in the EEU. Ragweed, grass and birch pollen have differing appearances and sizes but essentially, both have characteristics which promote the ability to keep the pollen grains suspended and hence, the ability to maintain proper concentrations within the EEU. Preliminary validation studies conducted in the EEU, absent of human volunteers, have confirmed our ability to release, disperse and maintain birch pollen concentrations in the EEU using the existing technology. This study aims to validate the use of birch pollen on a clinical scale. By adding non- allergic participants into the EEU, the investigators hope to determine if non-allergic persons exhibit differences at baseline in their "epigenetic biomarkers" from those who have pre-existing and established allergic airways inflammation.

Rhinitis, Cognition and Driving Performance

Seasonal Allergic RhinitisDriving Ability1 more

This study investigates the effects of Allergic Rhinitis (AR) on driving ability and memory functions. Our group has previously shown that patients suffering from AR symptoms perform less well on tasks requiring sustained attention compared to non symptomatic controls. Car driving is a typical behavior that is susceptible for changes in sustained attention and might therefore become worse under conditions when patients suffer from AR symptoms. We will compare the driving performance of untreated, symptomatic AR patients with the performance of symptomatic patients that have been treated with either a systemic AR medication (a pill) or a topical medication (nasal spray)

Effect of a Probiotic on Grass Pollen Allergic Rhinitis Subjects

Allergic Rhinitis

Various studies in animals and humans have shown a potential beneficial effect of probiotics consumption on allergy. However, few studies exist that document their efficacy for upper airways allergies such as allergic rhinitis. The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of short-term oral administration of a Lactobacillus paracasei on a nasal provocation test (NPT) with grass pollen, performed out of pollen season. Adult volunteers with allergic rhinitis are enrolled in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, based on two 4-weeks cross-over periods of product consumption (probiotic-fermented milk versus placebo), separated by a washout period of 6-8 weeks. Objective and subjective clinical parameters of NPT as well as systemic and nasal immunological parameters are compared between the two treatment periods.

Study With High Dose PURETHAL Mites in Allergic Rhinitis/Rhinoconjunctivitis Patients

Allergic RhinitisAllergic Rhinoconjunctivitis

The aim of the study is to establish the maximum tolerated dose of PURETHAL Mites that is achieved by 90% of the patients with less than 20% of the injections giving rise to a swelling of > 5 cm and the optimal regimen to reach this maximum dose will be determined.

Preference for Clarinex Tablets vs. Zyrtec Tablets in Patients With Allergies (P03181)

Seasonal Allergic RhinitisPerennial Allergic Rhinitis

This was a crossover study designed to see if patients with allergy symptoms preferred Clarinex® or Zyrtec®. Patients were randomized to take 7 days of Clarinex or Zyrtec treatment, followed by a 5 to 28-day washout period (days when no drug is given), followed by 7 days of the opposite treatment. At the end of each 7-day treatment, patients were asked questions to determine which drug, Clarinex or Zyrtec, the patient prefers more.
