Scar Resection and Reconstruction With Integra and Split Skin Grafts in Patients With Non-Suicidal...
Nonsuicidal Self InjuryStigmatization2 moreNon-suicidal self-inflicted (NSSI) scars can act as a physical reminder of previous self-inflicted self-harm, thereby not only worsening the symptoms of depression and self-doubt but also leading to recurrent self-infliction and social exclusion. Several different treatment options exist to alter the appearance of NSSI scars like pulsed-dye laser therapy (PDL), non-ablative fractional laser therapy, dermabrasion or elliptical excision. However, none of these treatment options can completely diminish the scars. In the majority of cases, the unique scar pattern of NSSI scars and in addition to that the "reminder" remains. In contrast to regular scar revisions, the aesthetical appearance is not the most important outcome parameter as the main focus of the surgical treatment is destigmatization. The surgical transformation of the scar into a burn-like scar could change the scar-perception of the society and the patient, thereby improving the patient's quality of life and body perception. Surgical resection with preservation of the subcutaneous tissue followed by consecutive reconstruction with a bilayer dermal regenerative matrix (IntegraTM) and split skin grafts might represent a promising and novel therapeutic approach. The hypothesis is that by surgically transforming the non-suicidal self-inflicted scars into a burn-like scar the patient's body and scar perception will be positively altered and the stigmatization by the society reduced.
Efficacy and Tolerability of a Fractional Ablative Erbium Laser for Axillary Scarring for Hidradenitis...
Hidradenitis SuppurativaScarringSingle center, open-label, baseline-controlled study evaluating the use of a Sciton fractionated ablative laser in the treatment of Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) scarring.
Biocellular-Cellular Regenerative Treatment Scaring Alopecia and Alopecia Areata
Alopecia AreataScarring AlopeciaThe primary objective of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the use of a biocellular mixture of emulsified adipose-derived tissue stromal vascular fraction (AD-tSVF) and high density platelet-rich plasma concentrate (HD- PRP). Additionally, comparison with clinical outcomes of adipose-derived cellular Stromal Vascular Fraction (AD-cSVF) + AD-tSVF + HD PRP; AD-cSVF + emulsified AD-tSVF + HD- PRP; emulsified AD-tSVF + HD PRP + AD-cSVF; AD-cSVF via intravenous infusion in treatment of Scaring Alopecias and Alopecia Areata. Control will be served by use of established clinical protocol of using platelet concentrates with Matristem Matrix (Acel) injected in the same fashion as the other ARMs within this study, and comparative analyses performed at the endpoint of this study.
Scar Appearance After Postoperative Hydrocolloid Dressing Versus Standard Petrolatum Ointment
ScarSkin Scarring7 morePatients will be randomized either to receive standard daily dressing or hydrocolloid dressing using a randomization generator. After closing the wound with the sutures, the scar will be covered by a hydrocolloid dressing, which will be left in place for 7 days(Experimental) or the standard dressing (Control) that will be covered with petrolatum jelly and bandaging during this time period, which has to be re-applied daily. Patients and dermatologic surgeons will then complete surveys 7 days, 30 days, and 90 days after surgery to evaluate the cosmetic appearance of these scars.
Efficacy of Corticosteroids in Reducing Renal Scarring in Acute Pyelonephritis in Children
Urinary Tract Infections in ChildrenDexamethasone5 moreUrinary tract infection (UTI) is the most frequently occurring serious bacterial infection in young children and accounts 5 to 14% of emergency department visits Formation of renal scarring in children has been associated with serious complications as hypertension, preeclampsia, and end stage renal failure in young age . So, this study aims to determine whether dexamethasone reduces the renal scarring in children will be treated with antibiotics for acute pyelonephritis. investigators propose to conduct a multi center, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial, that will evaluate the efficacy of dexamethasone (0.3 mg/kg every 12 hours per day orally for 3 days) in preventing renal scarring in young febrile children (2 months to 14 years) with a first-diagnosed UTI. 120 Participants will be enrolled over a 3-year period from 6 sites.
Abdominal Scar Improvement in Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction
CicatrixBreast ReconstructionMicrosurgical breast reconstruction is most commonly performed with free abdominal flaps, which leave a long transverse lower abdominal scar. Due to tension across the incision, these scars frequently widen and hypertrophy. Hence, modalities that can reduce this tendency, thus, improving scar appearance are desirable. Here, we wish to investigate the impact of the Neodyne embrace device on postoperative abdominal scar appearance. The proposed study is novel in that it is the first RCT investigating the effect of the embrace device on scar appearance in the context of microsurgical breast reconstruction.
Study for the Effects of Microcurrent Therapy on the Prevention and Healing of Brachioplasty Scars...
CicatrixProspective, single-centre two-arm randomized controlled trial. Both groups receive standard wound care + hydration. The intervention group also receives microcurrent therapy. Patients with surgical incisions from bilateral Brachioplasty procedures will be included in this study. One arm will be randomized in the intervention group and one arm in the control group. Objective and subjective outcomes are registered. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the outcomes of the patients of the intervention group differ significantly from the patients in the control group.
Silicone Taping for the Improvement of Abdominal Donor Site Scars
Hypertrophic ScarScarThis study will look at silicone tape compared to the current no dressing standard at the investigators institution, to determine if silicone tape provides a significant improvement in post-abdominoplasty scar appearance. Silicone tape will be added to half of the abdominoplasty incision of patients undergoing abdominally-based breast reconstruction procedures two weeks after their operation. They will be followed up and assessed at specific timepoints to determine whether the silicone improves scar outcomes in these patients.
Optimizing Postpartum Pelvic Health Through Self-Scar Tissue Massage of Episiotomy A Pilot RCT
Episiotomy; ComplicationsScar TissueThe goal of this Pilot Randomized Control Trial (RCT) is to determine if a larger RCT evaluating the effect of self-scar tissue massage of episiotomy scar tissue on pelvic health outcomes is feasible. The main questions it aims to answer are: Can the investigators recruit 130 participants and aim for 80% retention of participants in this study? Are the response rates to questionnaires and completeness of questionnaires acceptable? Do the participants find the self-scar tissue massage intervention easy and acceptable to perform and do they adhere to the protocol? Type of Study: Clinical Trial Participant Population/Health Conditions: The participant population will be 18 years of age or older, primiparous, and 6-10 weeks postpartum after vaginal delivery with healed episiotomy as confirmed to them by their maternity care provider or family doctor at their 6 week postpartum check. The participants will also need to have sufficient proficiency in English to understand intervention instructional video and complete written questionnaires. Investigators will compare the scores on two reliable and validated pelvic health questionnaires in those in the intervention and control groups. The intervention group will be provided an instructional video on self-scar tissue massage and asked to perform self-scar massage and record their intervention and experience over a 6-week period. The control group will receive routine postnatal care (no self-scar massage training or performance). Patient medical records will be used to collect demographic data and labour and delivery characteristics. Two reliable and validated pelvic health questionnaires will be used for outcome measures. Baseline outcomes will be performed at the start of the study (between 6-10 weeks postpartum) and then repeated 6 weeks later and again at 6 months postpartum.
