Study of Language Disorders and Interactions Between Mnesic Capabilities and Semantic Competencies...

PsychosisSchizophrenia2 more

This research concerns the study of language disorders of patients present in the spectrum of psychosis. It is indeed accepted that psychotic disorders are associated with language difficulties, which are only poorly highlighted thanks to reusable tools in clinical practice. These language disorders impact communication, and concern many linguistic domains, thus covering phonology, lexicon, semantics, morphosyntax and pragmatics. It therefore seems relevant to characterize these language disorders and to assess to what extent they interact with the other symptoms of the pathology, in particular the course of the thought disorder and the neuropsychological symptoms. In addition, this study is particularly interested in the interactions between working memory capacities and those related to syntax. It is intended for different patients suffering from psychotic disorders of different intensities, treated in the Psychotherapeutic Center of Nancy. Patients suffering from at-risk mental state (ARMS), first episode of psychosis (FEP) or schizophrenia will benefit from a complete language assessment, evaluating each domain mentioned above, on the expressive and understanding sides. The results of the language assessment will be compared with those of a control group in the same tests. They will also be analyzed with regard to the neuropsychological and psychiatric elements noted in the patient's medical file, in order to highlight possible associations between language skills, neuropsychological and psychiatric symptoms in this patient population.

Approaches For ThE pRioritization of Patients in priMAry Care Post-COVID To Reduce Health Inequities...

SchizophreniaBipolar Disorder

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted primary care across Canada. Inequities in prevention activities and chronic disease management likely increased but the extent is unknown. Pragmatic interventions are required to prioritize patients and improve the quality of primary care post-COVID. In AFTERMATH, the investigators will conduct a pragmatic cluster randomized controlled trial (cRCT) at the largest primary care Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) in Ontario, focused on a highly marginalized population: adults living with mental illness and one or more additional chronic diseases. The investigators will test an intervention that builds on the investigators' past work and combines data and supports to primary care providers to improve quality of life, reduce gaps in prevention activities and improve chronic disease management. The investigators' project will result in new evidence on ways to improve access to care and reduce inequities, and inform future efforts to use data beyond COVID-19.

AkathisiaDrug-Induced3 more

This study was designed to determine if preladenant (SCH 420814, MK-3814) can reduce drug-induced involuntary movements in participants with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. Participants were to be evaluated for two 14-day treatment periods with a 3-week washout period between treatment periods. The primary outcome measure, Extrapyramidal Symptom Rating Score (ESRS), was to be evaluated frequently during the treatment periods.

A Study of a Remediation Program of Social Cognition in Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia

Theory of mind (ability to infer others' intention, emotion, etc) is known to be altered in patients with schizophrenia and its deficit to be correlated with their decreased social proficiency. We designed a novel cognitive therapy, that makes use of videos, aimed at learning a better use of contextual information to infer others' intentions. The aim of this study is to demonstrate, in schizophrenic patients, a quantitative improvement of their ability to infer intention of others induced by this novel training program. A secondary aim is to measure the cerebral correlates (MEG, PeV) of this social cognitive function and of its anticipated improvement.
