Electrical Stimulation for the Treatment of Post-Stroke Shoulder Pain
Shoulder PainPost-stroke shoulder pain is defined as pain in the shoulder area that starts after a person has had a stroke. The SPR System is an investigational device that is being studied for the relief of post-stroke shoulder pain. The SPR System uses electrical stimulation and includes a Trial Stage (where a temporary system is used to see if the subject may benefit from this type of therapy) and may include an Implant Stage (where a small device is implanted under the skin in the chest). The SPR System delivers mild electrical stimulation to the shoulder where the subject feels pain. This research study will evaluate the effect of electrical stimulation on shoulder pain. Individuals who are over the age of 21, who had a stroke at least six months ago, who experience shoulder pain, and have tried other therapies for their shoulder pain, may be eligible to participate in the first stage of the SPR System. Subjects meeting the specified success criteria at the conclusion of the SPR Trial Stage who experience a return of pain within 6 months of completion of the Trial Stage may be eligible for the second stage (SPR Implant Stage). This research study lasts a little over 3 years and may include 17 visits to the study doctor and at least 8 telephone calls from study staff.
Proposal to Evaluate the Efficacy of the InterX 5000 in the Treatment of Chronic Neck and Shoulder...
Neck PainShoulder Pain1 moreThe purpose of the proposed study is to evaluate the efficacy of the InterX 5000 in relieving chronic neck and shoulder pain. This study will focus on the efficacy of treating patients who have functional limitations in activity because of chronic/recurrent neck or shoulder pain. H1: InterX therapy will have a moderate effect to reduce pain. H2: Functional gains will be greater in patients receiving InterX therapy compared to those who received placebo treatment. H3: Chronic neck and shoulder pain is more prevalent in patients who exhibit radiographic evidence of degenerative spondylosis/arthrosis of the cervical spine.
Effectiveness of Physiotherapy for Chronic Shoulder Pain
Shoulder PainThe purpose of this study is to investigate whether a physiotherapy program reduces pain and improves disability and quality-of-life in people with chronic shoulder pain. The main study hypotheses are that (i) A 10-week physiotherapy treatment will result in significantly greater reductions in pain and disability than placebo treatment in individuals with chronic shoulder pain (ii) Improvements in pain and disability following a 10-week physiotherapy treatment will be maintained at a 3-month follow-up.
Study of Strengthening Exercises and Improving Movement for Painful Shoulders in Adults With Spinal...
Shoulder PainThe purpose of this study is to conduct research to see if we can help people who have a spinal cord injury and shoulder pain to decrease the pain in the shoulders. We are investigating the effectiveness of a home exercise program for the shoulders and changes in how tasks are performed compared to an educational program on shoulder pain. There are no new experimental procedures included in this study; instead it is a comparison of two types of treatment that have been provided for this problem before. The new part of this study is the collecting of information before and after treatment. We hypothesize that those who participate in this home exercise program will have decrease shoulder pain and increase activity.
All-Arthroscopic Versus Mini-Open Repair of Small or Moderate Rotator Cuff Tears
Shoulder PainRotator Cuff TearThis study will compare two different surgical techniques for repairing a tear in the muscles of the shoulder (rotator cuff). The investigators will determine whether an arthroscopic or mini-open technique provides better quality of life and repair integrity.
A Clinical Study of Freshly Manufactured 35kDa Hyaluronan Fragment in the Treatment of Pain
Shoulder PainNeck Pain3 moreLocal used high molecular weight Hyaluronan (HA) with high viscosity has a variety of receptors in the human body, including CD44, LYVE-1, RHAMM, HARE, Siglec-9, TLR2, CEMIP and TMEM2. Intra-articular local injection of HA has a certain degree of analgesic effect. Local injection of HA into the nerve trunk directed by ultrasound was used for the treatment of neuropathic pain. It was reported that the analgesic effect of HA is regulated by TRPV1 ion channels. This study hypothesizes that hyaluronidase cleaves HA to generate low molecular weight HA fragments HA35 with good tissue permeability, which may bind to a variety of HA receptors on the cell surface within the tissues and produce a broad-spectrum analgesic effect. In this study, 35kDa Hyaluronan fragment HA35 was prepared by mixing hyaluronidase PH20 injection and high molecular weight Hyaluronan (HA) injection at room temperature for 20 minutes. In this study, hyaluronidase injection and Hyaluronan injection were off-label used to conduct an investigator-initiated study (IIT or IIS) for the treatment of herpes zoster and shoulder, neck, back and temporal pain.
Does Physical Activity Provide Additional Benefit In Patients With Rotator Cuff Related Shoulder...
Rotator Cuff InjuriesRotator cuff-related shoulder pain (RCRSP) are among the most common musculoskeletal disorders and can be associated with pain, weakness, shoulder dysfunction and kinesiophobia. The management could be surgery or nonsurgical options such as medical treatment, education, activity modifications and physiotherapy. Physical activity is defined as any body movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires a certain amount of energy expenditure. Regular physical activity is proven to help prevent and manage many diseases. Beyond these people, doing physical activity have better mental health, emotional wellbeing, quality of life and lower rates of mental illness. Additionally, physical activity and exercise applications are used as an alternative method to reduce the severity and frequency of pain in patients with chronic pain. Investigators reviewed the literature, we could not find any randomized controlled trial on the effectiveness of physical activity in studies conducted with patients with RCRSP. Investigators hypothesized that adding physical activity to the treatment of RCRSP would make a significant difference. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of physical activity applied in addition to supervised exercise on pain, functional status and quality of life in patients with RCRSP.
Post-Mastectomy Shoulder Pain And Lymphedema Responses To Ga-As Laser Versus Microcurrent Electrical...
Post Mastectomy Lymphedemathe aim of this study is to investigate the effect of GA-AS laser versus microcurrent on post-mastectomy shoulder pain and lymphedema.
Investigation of the Effect of Conventional Treatment on Postural Stability and Balance in Individuals...
Shoulder PainBalance; DistortedShoulder pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints that people need treatment for. Typical signs and symptoms include pain during reaching, muscle weakness, and interrupted sleep. The shoulder is one of the most common areas of pain, ranking third among musculoskeletal pains in the general population. There is a lack of information regarding the impact of shoulder-related problems on the general population, and therefore there is a growing interest in identifying adverse factors associated with shoulder problems. In our study, the postural stability and balance status of individuals with shoulder pain complaints will be evaluated and the effects of conventional treatment of shoulder pain on postural instability and balance parameters will be investigated.
Comparison of the Treatment Efficacy of Suprascapular Nerve Block and Intraarticular Shoulder Injection...
Adhesive CapsulitisShoulder PainObjective: We aim to compare the efficiency of the ultrasonography-guided suprascapular nerve block (SSNB) and ultrasonography-guided intra-articular shoulder injection (IAI) techniques in terms of pain and functional status in the treatment of adhesive capsulitis. Design: 60 patients with adhesive capsulitis were divided into two groups: SSNB and IAI. Both groups received an injection of 1 ml of 40 mg of triamcinolone acetonide and 9 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine hydrochloride. The patients' Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) scores, shoulder active and passive range of motions (ROM), and visual analog scale (VAS) scores were evaluated before and after the injection in the 1st week, 4th week, and 12th week.
