Effects of Preoperative Gabapentin Versus Pregabalin on Shoulder Pain After Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy...
PainPostoperative2 moreThe aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of premedication with pregabalin or gabapentin versus placebo on postoperative shoulder pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
Peripheral Nerve Stimulation for Shoulder Pain: Dose Response
StrokeShoulder PainThe primary objective of this RCT is explore the mechanism for Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain (HSP) reduction due to treatment with peripheral nerve stimulation. We will explore the association of subject-specific clinical and demographic information and pain relief from PNS. We will explore the possible role of central sensitization mechanisms in perpetuating pain via measures of sensory and pain perception. Lastly, we will explore the dose-response association of muscle-contraction from PNS and pain reduction, completion of activities of daily living (ADLs), and improvement in quality of life.
Combined Intra-articular Shoulder Injection and Stellate Ganglion Block in Chronic Post-mastectomy...
Breast NeoplasmsBackground and Purpose: Adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder is commonly found in patients after breast cancer treatment. We aimed to determine the effectiveness of combined shoulder joint intra-articular injection of platelet rich plasma (PRP) with stellate ganglion block (SGB) with ketamine &bupivacaine injection as a new technique for frozen shoulder (FS) management after mastectomy. Methods: Sixty four patients with chronic post-mastectomy shoulder pain and stiffness were randomly allocated into one of two groups: group A; ultrasound guided SGB (1 ml ketamine in a dose of 0.5mg/kg plus 5ml bupivacaine 0.5% in total volume 10 ml) and group B; ultrasound guided SGB plus posterior approach shoulder injection with PRP. Visual analogue score (VAS) at rest and at shoulder movement, range of motions (ROM) of shoulder and disability of arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) questionnaire were recorded.
Does The Type of Exercise Influence Outcome in Rotator Cuff Related Shoulder Pain
Shoulder PainRotator Cuff Injury2 moreRotator cuff related shoulder pain (RCRSP) is the most common shoulder disorder and its chronicization leads to multiple consequences such as early retirement, absenteeism from work, decreased participation and quality of life and expensive yearly healthcare costs (128 739 687 $ according to CNESST). Even though scientific evidence has shown that prioritising physiotherapy exercises over surgery for the initial management of RCRSP is a great way to save on healthcare costs without compromising quality, it does not always result in a resolution of symptoms and patients' quality of life can still be affected thereafter: up to 30% of people with RCRSP remain symptomatic despite rehabilitation interventions. This lack of therapeutic success could be explained by a multitude of factors, but a central issue that can explain a lack of improvement is an inappropriate dosage or choice of exercises prescribed. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of 3 non-operative methods of delivering shoulder management (2 types of exercises and an advice and education only group) on symptoms and functional limitations for people with RCRSP. Results from this project should help us further our knowledge on which non-operative treatment to promote with patients presenting with RCRSP, thus decreasing the proportion of individuals experiencing pain even after going through a rehabilitation program.
Liposomal Bupivacaine for Pain Control After Total Shoulder Arthroplasty
OsteoarthritisArthropathy3 moreThis study will compare interscalene nerve block versus liposomal bupivacaine (Exparel) for pain control after total shoulder replacements. Each method will be assessed in terms of post operative pain scores, pain medication consumption, length of stay, complications (nerve injuries, hematomas, cardiac/respiratory events) and rate of readmission due to pain. The aims of this study will be achieved through a randomized controlled trial and cost-effectiveness analysis.
Immediate Effect of Dry Needling on Trigger Points
Shoulder PainThe immediate effects (0-30 minutes) of a dry needling intervention on a trigger point on their viscoelastic properties (tone, elasticity and stiffness)
High Intensity Laser Therapy in the Treatment of Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain
HemiplegiaHigh intensity laser therapy (HILT) has been considered as a treatment option for shoulder pain. To our knowledge, the effectiveness of HILT in patients with hemiplegic shoulder pain (HSP) with partial thickness rotator cuff tear (PTRCT) is unknown. In this study, we intended to investigate the effectiveness of HILT on pain, disability, function and quality of life in patients with HSP accompanied by PTRCT.
Efficacy of Pulse Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) in Patients With Subacromial Impingement...
Shoulder PainMusculoskeletal Diseases2 moreThe aim of our study is to investigate the effectiveness of Pulse Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMT) versus placebo on pain, quality of life, shoulder function and isokinetic assessment, and muscle strength in the treatment of subacromial impingement syndrome.

Self-Management for Persistent Subacromial Pain
Shoulder Pain ChronicPhysiotherapy-led exercises is the first line treatment for patients with subacromial pain. However, current evidence report that most treatment programmes only show a short-term benefit. There seem to be a potential for enhancing the effectiveness of exercise interventions by improving adherence to self-managed exercises, but there is lack of knowledge about adherence to exercise programmes in shoulder pain. Before conducting a planned randomised controlled trial on the clinical effectiveness of an intervention focusing on adherence to a self-managed exercise strategy (the Ad-Shoulder intervention), it is necessary to run a feasibility study in order to establish whether such a resource-demanding trial is worthwhile. Feasibility studies are designed to answer the key question "Can it work?" The main objectives of the present study was to assess the feasibility in terms of recruitment capability, data collection procedures and acceptability of the Ad-Shoulder intervention in patients with subacromial pain receiving treatment in primary or secondary health care.
