Transcultural Validation of the Oxford Shoulder Score for the French-speaking Population

Shoulder Pain

Degenerative lesions of the shoulder occur very frequently and their incidence increases with age. The Constant-Murley score is currently considered the gold standard in Europe to assess the shoulder and is widely used by the orthopaedic community to follow up on shoulder pathologies. However, healthcare professionals are taking an increasing interest in self-administered patient-reported out-come measures. Several self-administered questionnaires are available to assess the shoulder. Among these questionnaires, the OSS (Oxford Shoulder Score) is considered to be quick, simple, and reliable for the English-speaking population. This score was initially developed at the University of Oxford in 1996. It is a self-administered questionnaire designed to evaluate pain and shoulder function through 12 questions. This score has since been adapted in different languages but not in French.

Range of Motion, Humeral Retroversion and Rotator Cuff (RC) Muscle Strength of the Shoulder in Overhead...

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain and dysfunction are common problems in overhead sports, due to extreme ranges of motion and repetitive loading. Predisposing factors include inadequate range of motion (ROM), such as a reduction in total ROM or a shift of balance between internal and external rotation. Such a shift may be the result of soft tissue adaptations to the activity demands, or reflect a structural outcome of Humeral retroversion. A shift in the range of motion may be detrimental to the rotator muscle function, which may create another risk factor for shoulder injury. The purpose of this study is to document shoulder range of motion, humeral retroversion, rotator muscle strength and fatigue in several groups of overhead athletes undergoing a routine pre season screening once a year, and investigate the interaction between those factors in the different groups.

Intravenous Versus Perineural Effect Dexamethasone in Interscalene Nerve Block With Levobupivacaine...

Shoulder Pain

Interscalene brachial plexus block can be used as an additive to general anaesthesia or as the primary anaesthetic for shoulder surgeries for pain management. The investigators compared the effect of perineural versus intravenous dexamethasone on the prolongation of the action of levobupivacaine in ultrasound guided interscalene block for shoulder and upper arm surgeries.

Effects of Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain

StrokeShoulder Pain

The purposes of this study is to investigate the differences in upper extremity function, sleep quality, and functional independence between patients with and without hemiplegic shoulder pain (HSP). HSP is defined as musculoskeletal pain in the affected shoulders of individuals after stroke.Numerous studies have found an association between post-stroke shoulder pain and range of motion, sensory impairment, subluxation, spasticity, and complex regional pain syndrome. HSP is a problem that, starting from mild discomfort, leads to gradual functional impairment, ultimately resulting in increasing disability and decreased independence. In the literature, the relationship between HSP and upper extremity function, functional independence, and sleep quality has not been clarified.

Observational Study of Hemiplegic Shoulder Pain After Recent Stroke

Shoulder PainHemiplegia1 more

This is an observational study to address the following questions. How many people develop stroke-shoulder pain within 3 days of stroke? How many people have stroke shoulder pain at 8-10 weeks after stroke? Does having stroke-shoulder pain within 3 days of stroke predict the likelihood of having stroke-shoulder pain at 8-10 weeks? What are the best bedside examination tests to identify stroke-shoulder pain?

The Chinese Version of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Shoulder Assessment...

Shoulder Pain

Background: The patient self-report section of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Shoulder Assessment Form (ASESp) is one of the most validated and reliable assessment tools. This study aimed to establish a validated Chinese version of ASESp (ASESp-CH). Methods: A clinical prospective study was performed. Following the guidelines of forward-backward translation and cross-cultural adaptation, a Chinese version of ASESp was established. Patients older than 18 years with shoulder disorders were included. Patients who could not complete test-retest questionnaires within the interval of 7-30 days and patients who received interventions were excluded. Intraclass correlation (ICC) was calculated for test- retest reliability, whereas internal consistency was determined by Cronbach value. Construct validity was evaluated by comparing the corresponding domains between the ASESp-CH and a validated Chinese version of 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36).
