It has been reported that excessive use of smartphones increases the stress on the cervical spine, and changes in cervical curvature and pain in the muscles around the neck are associated with the increase in stress. Studies have reported that smartphone users with addictions have neck pain (68%), upper back pain (62%), right shoulder pain (52%), left shoulder pain (46%), and right hand pain (46%). As a result of our study, the frequency of smartphone addiction and temporomandibular joint dysfunction and related factors in individuals with nonspecific neck pain were examined and the results we obtained will contribute to the literature.

Using computer for long have been shown to cause vision problems, musculoskeletal pain particularly in neck, postural deviations, obesity and physical inactivity in several studies. The relation between obesity and physical activity, neck pain and postural deviations with altered sensorimotor function has been also shown with many studies. However, there were not enough study that assess sensorimotor congruence such as proprioception and reaction time in adolescents diagnosed with Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD). This study aimed to evaluate the proprioception and reaction time and investigate its relation with the relationship with neck pain, proprioception and reaction time in adolescents with IGD.

In healthy participantsng adults, the anterior tilt position of the head and consequently flattening of the cervical lordosis may results in impaired neutral posture of the spine during daily long-term computer etc. use with today's technology. In addition, the increasing use of smart phones may also promote this negative results. According to a study, the estimated total smartphone sales for 2012 was 660 million, but as of 2015, it is estimated that a total of one billion units worldwide. It is also thought that phone sales will continue to increase over the years, as it facilitates daily life activities. As a result of our literature review, the investigators have not come across a study that evaluates demographic information such as the duration of using smartphones or computers, cervical position sense, neck muscle strength, physical activity and general psychological status, which the investigators think may affect the performance of deep cervical flexor muscles in healthy participantsng adults. With this study, it will be ensured that more information about the factors affecting the performance of deep cervical flexor muscles will be determined in advance and necessary steps will be taken to prevent the factors that may cause neck problems in the future.

Background and aim: The use of smartphones, which has reached the level of addiction causes some physical and psychological health problems. The aim was to examine the musculoskeletal disorders of the neck and upper extremities of mobile phone addiction in a population of young adults. Methods: The study is a cross sectional research conducted on students of a university in İstanbul between December 2018-October 2020. The level of addiction was assessed with the Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Form (SAS-SF). The posture of participants was evaluated by New York Posture Rating Chart (NYPRC), mostly usage smartphone posture, forward head and myofascial trigger points were questioned according to Simon and Travel criteria. Mann-Whitney U test Pearson's chi-squared test were used for analyzing the data.

The aim of this cohort study is to observe the prevalence, incidence, relapse, and remission rates of online and/or smartphone game addiction among elementary and secondary school students in Korea. In addition the investigators are going to identify risk and protective factors, to determine whether online and/or smart phone game addiction is a primary or secondary problem, and to identify outcomes for individuals who become or stop being online and smart phone game addiction.

The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) recently identified Internet gaming disorder as a new potential psychiatric disorder which need further research. Several studies showed the important prevalence of psychiatric disorders among patients suffering from internet gaming disorder. Investigators hypothesize that on an other side the prevalence of internet gaming disorder among patients suffering from psychiatric disorders shall be high but it has never been studied yet. The main goal of this trial is to examine the prevalence of internet gaming disorder using the Internet Gaming Disorder Test-10 (IGDT-10) among inpatient aged from 12 to 17 of 4 psychiatric units of French region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Secondary goals will be to assess a parental version of the IGDT-10 (IGDT-10-P) and to compare the two versions. IGDT-10 will be passed during 6 months to every inpatient and IGDT-10-P to their parents within the 21 first days of the hospitalisation.

Easy access to internet is the main advantage of smartphones in comparison to traditional mobile phones, so they are considered as handheld convenient substitutes to computers. People use smartphones for many different purposes such as communication, entertainment, browsing for information, education or business facilitation. Unfortunately the excessive use of smartphones makes people 'addicted' to that type of technology. Past research has shown that older people have less positive attitudes towards a variety of technologies and they are less likely than younger people to embrace new technology, so It seems that the problem of smartphones addiction is most likely to affect young people who are fascinated with new technologies.

The Effect of Smartphone Addiction on Physical Activity and Depression in University Students

Young Adult

This study was planned considering that young people with smartphone addiction are depressed and their physical activity is significantly reduced. In this direction, our aim is to examine the relationship between smartphone use and physical activity among universities in the 18-25 age group, which uses technology extensively. Our results are to raise awareness of this prevention by uncovering the possibility that it may be the cause of smartphone use in young people.
