Effects of Inspiratory Muscle Training on Diaphragm Thickness, Respiratory Muscle Strength and Balance...

Athletic Injuries

Dance is a performing art form consisting of sports and art intertwined and complex dynamic choreographic figures were handled aesthetically and physically of narrative. Scientific studies are insufficient on dance and health and performance of dancers in the literature although dance is the most used type of art and sport in all societies and for all age groups. It is seen that the core stabilization (central forces) of the dancers is insufficient when the current studies were examined, this insufficient stabilization causes biomechanical changes in the trunk, and indirectly affects the lower extremities. Consequently, insufficient stabilization was shown to be caused impairment of force generation and injuries. In addition, lack of core stabilization of dancers may cause impairment in balance and postural control. Therefore, dancers need a good postural control with provided by an effective core stabilization training in order to exhibit a successful and healthy performance. It is shown that inspiratory muscle training (IMT) improves diaphragm strength and diaphragm thickness. Considering the relation between diaphragm muscle forming the upper (ceiling) part of the core area, and balance, IMT may also have an impact on postural control and balance alongside the standard clinical parameters such as respiratory muscle strength and diaphragm thickness in dancers. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of inspiratory muscle training on diaphragm thickness, postural stability, balance, respiratory muscle strength in dancers.

Radial Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy for Acute Hamstring Muscle Complex Injury Type 3b in Athletes...

Athletic Injuries

This study tests the hypothesis that the combination of radial extracorporeal shock wave therapy performed with the Swiss DolorClast device (Electro Medical Systems, Nyon, Switzerland) and a specific rehabilitation program (hereafter, "rESWT + RP") is effective and safe in treatment of acute hamstring muscle complex injury Type 3b, and is statistically significantly more effective than the combination of sham-rESWT and RP (hereafter, "sham-rESWT + RP").

The Acute Effect of Cold Spray Application on the Mechanical Properties of the Quadriceps Muscle...

ColdSpray2 more

Vikocoolant spray, also known as cold spray; It is a form of cryotherapy (cold treatment) used in sports medicine, athletic training, sports competitions and rehabilitation environments. It has been demonstrated in the literature that local cold application may cause increased resistance to movement. It has been reported in some studies that muscle can change its mechanical properties in a short time. However, the effect of cold spray application on the mechanical properties of the muscle is unknown. Therefore, in the current study proposal, the investigators aim to investigate the acute effect of cold spray application on the mechanical properties of the quadriceps muscle in athletes.

Functional Electrical Stimulation in Chronic Ankle Instability

Joint InstabilityAnkle Sprains1 more

Individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI) display neuromuscular deficits such as altered control of posture and gait when compared with healthy controls. These deficits may be attributed to muscle inhibition occurring after a surrounding joint structure has been damaged. Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is the application of high-intensity intermittent electrical stimuli to generate muscle contractions that may overcome inhibition, and which is coupled with a functional task such as gait. The current study aims to investigate the short and immediate effects of FES on gait parameters and postural control in subjects with CAI. Prior to intervention, treadmill gait will be evaluated using a motion analysis system, and postural control will be evaluated in a series of tests that measure balance, reaction time to ankle perturbation and stabilization ability after jump-landing. Then, a 20 minutes gait training with an FES device will be applied. Immediate effects of the training on gait parameters will be assessed. For medium-term effects evaluation, subjects will return for additional 7 training sessions (2 per week for 4 weeks), following by a complete measurements acquisition as prior to intervention. At six months follow-up, subjects will be contacted for collecting subjective outcomes.

Running Retraining to Minimize Braking Forces

Athletic Injuries

The proposed research study aims to investigate whether a gait modification training program to decrease peak braking forces during the stance phase of running will result in a reduction in impact loading and the incidence of running-related injuries among recreational distance runners.

Serial Movement Assessment in Collegiate Athletes Who Perform Injury Prevention Training

Injury LegInjury4 more

Athletic injury can result in decreased athletic performance or removal from sport participation. There may also be psychological and financial impacts of athletic injury. Additionally, there can be long-term consequences, such as increased risk of subsequent injury or arthritis. Therefore, determining ways to prevent athletic injury from occurring is critical. Movement quality during sport is related to injury risk. Athletes who move poorly are generally at increased risk of injury compared to athletes who move well. Movement quality can be improved through exercise-based injury prevention training, thereby decreasing injury risk. This purposed of this study is to evaluate movement quality multiple times over the course of an athletic season in collegiate athletes who perform injury prevention training. The hypothesis is that movement quality will improve over the course of an athletic season.

Preventing Youth Soccer Injury

InjuriesSports Injury1 more

A study is proposed to test whether adding additional referees to youth soccer matches may reduce the risk of injury to the children playing soccer. Publicly-open youth soccer games will be randomly assigned to have either one or three referees and videotaped. The videotaped games will then be watched to record risk-taking behavior by players, referee decisions, and other factors relevant to potential injury.

Adaptation in Lower Extremity After 3 Running Days, With a Group Trained by Eccentric Overload

Sports Injuries

This study evaluates the changes in muscles and tendons in the lower limb after an intervention of fatigue during 3 consecutive days between trained or not healthy subjects. One of the 2 groups received training by eccentric overload previously.
