Effectiveness of Prazosin in Bulimic Patients Experiencing Nightmares Due to PTSD
Stress DisordersPost-Traumatic1 moreThis research is being done to find out how effective Prazosin is in the treatment of bulimic patients experiencing distressing nightmares using subjective and objective measures.
Ketamine as a Treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)The purpose of this study is to study new ways to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Current treatments for PTSD do not work for everyone and it can take time to determine whether a person responds to a chosen treatment. The purpose of this study is to see whether ketamine, when given repeatedly intravenously can produce a quick and persistent improvement in PTSD symptoms. At higher doses, ketamine has been used for many years as an anesthetic for medical procedures, and at lower doses may be an effective treatment in patients with major depression and PTSD. Ketamine given for PTSD is investigational, which means that the FDA has not yet approved the drug for treating this condition. In this study, the effects of ketamine will be compared to those of midazolam. Midazolam has similar acute anesthetic effects compared to ketamine but has not been shown to treat or alleviate any symptoms of PTSD. This makes midazolam an appropriate substance to gauge whether ketamine can treat or alleviate PTSD symptoms thereby acting as what we call an active control.
Vestibular Rehabilitation Strategies in PTSD Effectiveness of Carrick Brain Centers Strategies Vestibular...
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSDThe specific aim of this proposed study is to compare the effectiveness of Vestibular Rehabilitation (VR) in patients with PTSD who have suffered combat related traumatic brain injuries in a randomized controlled trial in terms of PTSD symptom reduction.
Comparing Effects of a Holistic Yoga Program and a Wellness Program on PTSD Symptoms
Stress DisordersPost-TraumaticGiven the limited effectiveness of current treatments and the burden PTSD places on Veterans, civilians and clinicians, this research aims to compare the effects of a standardized, traditional, holistic yoga intervention (postures, breathing, deep muscle contraction and relaxation practices) with a wellness program (wellness topics and physical activity) on PTSD symptoms.
NAC for Treating Comorbid PTSD and SUD
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD)1 moreAs a result of sustained operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, there are an increasing number of U.S. military Veterans with substance use disorders and comorbid posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If left untreated, individuals with substance use disorders and PTSD are at increased risk for developing other mental health problems (e.g., depression, anxiety), suicidal ideation and attempts, medical problems, reduced resiliency and military readiness, vocational problems, and family/social impairment. This study will determine the benefits of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in treating alcohol use disorder and comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among military Veterans.
Brexpiprazole as Combination Therapy With Sertraline in Treatment of Adults With PTSD
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderThis will be a 12-week, multicenter, randomized, double-blind trial evaluating the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of brexpiprazole + sertraline combination treatment in adult subjects with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Quetiapine Augmentation of PE Therapy for the Treatment of Co-occurring PTSD and Mild Traumatic...
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderA pilot study to evaluate feasibility for a full-scale merit application. Specifically, for veterans considering prolonged exposure (PE) therapy, following the model established by Foa et al, we need to establish safety, and feasibility of quetiapine compared to treatment as usual (TAU) which employs multiple medications commonly used for PTSD in the VA system.
Brief Peer Supported webSTAIR Compared to Enhanced Wait List
Post Traumatic Stress DisorderDepression1 moreThis study will enroll 180 Veterans at a 2:1 ratio where 120 Veterans will be enrolled into a brief transdiagnostic peer supported webSTAIR (BPS webSTAIR) and 60 will be supported into Waitlist. The purpose of the study is to assess the efficacy BPS webSTAIR in regard to four outcomes: reduction in PTSD and depression symptoms (measured by the PCL-5 and PHQ-8, respectively) and improvement in emotion regulation and work and social adjustment (measured by the DERS-16 and WSAS, respectively). The active treatment is a 6-session modular treatment that focuses on learning emotion management skills where Particpants will have 10 weeks to complete the treatment. Assessments will occur three times for those in webSTAIR: baseline, post-treatment (10 weeks after randomization) and 8-week follow-up and twice for those on waitlist (baseline and 10 weeks after randomization). It is hypothesized that BPS WebSTAIR will be superior to the Waitlist condition on all four outcomes. Mixed Effects Models will be used to evaluate the outcomes.
Improving Function Through Primary Care Treatment of PTSD
Posttraumatic Stress DisorderThe proposed project will examine a promising brief therapy for PTSD for use in VHA Primary Care and its impact on functional outcomes. This intervention will provide an alternative point of access to effective PTSD treatment and improved function that does not require referral to specialty mental health and accomplishes improved function in a short-term, brief protocol. Many Veterans prefer to receive mental health care, including PTSD service in primary care. The current protocol would allow them to access effective therapy options in addition to the medication management that is currently the standard of care for PTSD in primary care. In addition, this brief protocol may reduce the number of specialty mental health referrals as many Veterans may not require additional PTSD specific treatment after completion. Thus, if effective, this protocol will greatly increase Veteran treatment choice and improve functional outcomes and access while also increasing efficiency of allocation of specialty PTSD services.
Promoting Asylum-seeking and Refugee Children's Coping With Trauma
Mental Health DisorderPost-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Adolescence2 moreA short term trauma-focused cognitive- behavioral program to reduce trauma-related mental health problems among asylum-seeking and refugee children. The main hypothesis of the study is that the TRT program significantly improves mental health (i.e. reduces symptoms of post-traumatic symptoms, depression and generalized anxiety and increases perceived quality of life (Qol) in the intervention group compared to the waiting-list control group.
