Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Adolescents With Substance Use Disorders (SUD)...
ADHDSubstance AbuseThe purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of osmotic-release methylphenidate (OROS-MPH) versus placebo for the treatment of ADHD in adolescents with SUD.
Brief Intervention for Drug Abusing Adolescents
Drug AbuseThe purpose of this clinical trail is to evaluate the efficacy of a brief, cognitive-behavioral therapeutic intervention for adolescents reporting mild or moderate drug abuse (MMDA). This school-based initiative employs a collaborative effort between the University of Minnesota researchers and the St. Paul Public Schools. This intervention aims to reduce post-treatment drug use behaviors and enhance drug-use resistant cognitions and problem-solving skills.
Addiction Health Evaluation And Disease Management (AHEAD) Study
Alcohol DependenceAlcoholism1 moreThe objective of this study is to test whether a chronic disease management (CDM) program for substance abusers in primary care leads to improved alcohol and drug-related outcomes (such as reduced consumption and health problems) and health care utilization patterns.
Home Based Treatment for Drug Use in Early Adolescents
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity DisorderOppositional Defiant Disorder2 moreThis study will compare two programs to see if they are helpful in preventing the use of substances in adolescents with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), or conduct disorder (CD). One of the programs involves working with adolescents and their parent(s) in their home. The other program involves working with adolescents and their parent(s) in an office setting.
Behavioral Treatment of Drug Abuse in Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) Patients
SchizophreniaMood Disorders1 moreThe main purpose of this study is to determine if the multifaceted treatment for substance abuse in dual disordered patients is more effective in reducing drug use than a supportive control treatment. The researchers will also determine if adding a case management component (Critical Time Intervention; CTI) to the intervention will increase treatment engagement and retention.
Low-Cost Contingency Management for Hispanic Outpatients - 3
Substance AbuseThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of a lower-cost contingency management (CM) procedure in Hispanic substance abusing outpatients. Thirty individuals meeting DSM-IV criteria for substance dependence receive one of two conditions: (a) standard treatment, or (b) standard treatment plus prize CM. Using a cross-over design, CM is implemented in a community-based outpatient clinic and compared with non-CM in the same clinic. The participating clinic is randomly assigned to receive either the CM or non-CM phase first; 15 weeks after the final participant in one phase is enrolled, a one-week washout period occurs, followed by a switch to the other phase. Patients initiating outpatient treatment during the non-CM phase receive standard treatment and submit urine and breath samples 2/week during Weeks 1-6 and 1/week during Weeks 7-12. Patients initiating treatment during the CM phase also receive standard treatment and the same breath and urine monitoring. In addition, they earn the opportunity to win prizes for coming to treatment and for submitting negative breath and urine samples. Follow-up interviews are conducted at 1,3,6 and 9 months following intake during which substance use and psychosocial functioning are assessed.
Colorado Women's TC Project
Substance-Related DisordersThe major aim of the project is to document and evaluate two treatments for female offenders with substance abuse problems (TC and cognitive behavioral), simultaneously studying the process of treatment, and relating treatment process to treatment outcome.
Re-Entry MTC for Offenders With MICA Disorders
Mental DisordersSubstance-Related DisordersThe purpose of this study is to examine the transition of offenders with both mental illness and chemical abuse (MICA) disorders from prison to the community, where continued treatment is generally considered necessary to sustain gains made by prison treatment, and to achieve successful outcomes. The project will determine the effectiveness of a modified therapeutic community (Re-Entry MTC) approach as compared to the case management and parole supervision currently provided. The study will also assess the relative impact on treatment outcomes of the type of treatment received while in prison and of the progress achieved in re-entry treatment.
Treatment of Comorbid Depression and Substance Abuse in Young People
DepressionSubstance-Related DisordersThis study aims to treat young people with an adjunctive integrated cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention and to examine the acceptability of this treatment approach within this population. The study will also include a pilot placebo-controlled trial of sertraline for those young people who fail to or only partially respond to the CBT intervention, so as to determine whether adjunctive anti-depressant treatment improves clinical response in this population.
