Brief Intervention for Suicide Risk Reduction in High Risk Adolescents

Adolescent Behavior

Adolescent suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in this age group. There are no validated treatments to decrease the risk of adolescent suicidal behavior, and there are especially no interventions to target the highest risk period for adolescent suicide and suicidal behavior, namely during the time of transition from inpatient to outpatient care. This purpose of this project was to develop a novel, brief intervention that can be delivered on an inpatient unit prior to the transition to outpatient care, and augment known factors to protect adolescents from suicidal behavior, and extend the impact of treatment by liaison with the outpatient therapist and the development of a personalized safety plan phone application. This treatment, ASAP, focuses on augmenting adherence to the components of ASAP and outpatient aftercare, development of a personalized Safety Plan, and Affect Protection, through helping the teen and family promote a positive mood, tolerate distress, engage in healthy emotion regulation and access social support.

Evaluation of a Psychoeducational Intervention for People With Suicidal Behaviour in the Penitentiary...

Suicide

Objective. The main objective is to determine the effectiveness of a psychoeducational program conducted by rehabilitation professionals to reduce the number of suicidal behaviors in prisons. Methodology. The design of the study will be a multicenter, randomized, two-group clinical trial with blind evaluation of response variables, one year follow-up. The study population will be a male and female prison population of a total of two Catalan prisons. As a dependent or outcome variable, the total number of suicidal behaviors recorded for 12 months after the intervention will be determined. As independent variables, socio-demographic, clinical and prison situation variables will be collected. The suicidal ideation will be measured with the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS). The anxiety and depression with Hamilton scale for assessing anxiety (HDRS) and the Hamilton scale for assessing severity of depressive symptoms (HAM-D). The EuroQoL-5D Health Questionnaire (EQ-5D) to measure quality of life. And a satisfaction survey of psychoeducational group intervention. Participants who meet the inclusion criteria will be divided into two groups, an intervention group that will conduct group sessions with a frequency of two per week and duration of 90 minutes for a total of 13 sessions, and a control group that will receive information on suicide counseling. Discussion. Mortality from suicide is higher in the prison population than in the general population. This project aims to evaluate the effect of a psychoeducational intervention on reducing the number of suicidal behaviors in prison, in order to evaluate their implementation at the level of the entire prison network.

An Adaptive Intervention for Adolescents at Risk for Suicide: A Pilot SMART

SuicideSelf Harm

To inform the development of a technology-augmented adaptive intervention for adolescents at risk for suicide, the goal of this study is to conduct a Sequential, Multiple Assignment, Randomized Trial (SMART) pilot of a Motivational Interview (MI)-enhanced safety planning intervention (MI-SafeCope). Findings from this study will provide the groundwork for the construction of a technology-augmented adaptive intervention that could lead to a reduction in suicidal behaviors and related events during the high-risk post-discharge period-an important suicide prevention target.

Cognitive Behavioral Suicide Prevention for Psychosis: Aim 1

SuicidePsychosis

The investigators are modifying and testing the preliminary effectiveness and implementation of a Cognitive Behavioral Suicide Prevention for psychosis (CBSPp) intervention. In this phase of the study, CBSPp will be tested in an initial open trial (n = 10) to examine its feasibility and acceptability. Investigators will recruit clients receiving services at a community mental health setting who have a schizophrenia spectrum disorder and recent suicidal thoughts and behaviors to receive the behavioral intervention for 10-weeks. Providers will be recruited and trained to deliver the intervention. Both clients and providers will be assessed at baseline to test our approach to measurement prior to the Aim 2 RCT (registered separately). Clients will be assessed at three additional timepoints (middle of treatment, end of treatment, and 2 months after treatment ends.
