The objective of the trial is to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of the Cardiva Mid-Bore Venous Vascular Closure System (VVCS) in sealing femoral venous access sites at the completion of catheter-based procedures performed through 6-12 Fr introducer sheath, while allowing for one or more of the following: elimination of the Foley catheter, elimination of protamine, or allowing same (calendar) day discharge for the appropriate patient population.

A Case Series Study of Negative Pressure Platform Wound Device

This primary case series study will demonstrate the safety and feasibility of the NP-PWD technology and treatment protocol to promote healing of surgical incision healing. In a first use in humans of the NP-PWD's capability to deliver negative pressure wound treatment (NPWT), this project will gather data from patients with elective surgical incisions, with the intention to evaluate the NPWT capability for future use in more tenuous situations of wound closure.

Efficacy and Safety of 0.25% Timolol Gel in Healing Surgical Open Wounds

The use of topical beta-blockers, such as 0.25% timolol, in promoting wound healing is currently emerging in the academic literature. The investigators will enroll 114 patients who have their skin cancer surgically removed resulting in open surgical wounds less or equal to 1.5 cm. The objective of this randomized safety study is to determine the safety and efficacy of 0.25% timolol in promoting wound healing in open surgical wounds less or equal to 1.5 cm.

This is a single-center, single-blind, randomized parallel superiority trial comparing two groups; Sternum GuardTM as the treatment arm and Bone Wax as the active control group. Both investigated modalities are materials used during sternotomy for covering the sewn sternal edge. The primary outcomes of this study comprised of four parameters; namely surgical site infection (superficial or deep infection), sternal dehiscence, hemostatic effect, and surgeon's satisfaction rate. The first three primary outcomes were assessed during the operation, at the end of the hospital stay, 14 days, and 30-days postoperative.

Researchers in the Orthopaedic surgery department at LSU Medical Center-Shreveport hope to learn if patterns of blood-flow around the incision site of patients undergoing surgery for heel-bone fractures can help predict whether complications will arise after a specific type of operation.The goals of this research study are to effectively answer as many of the following research questions as possible: Can a drug normally used to evaluate adequate blood flow in plastic surgery and tissue transfer be used to identify altered patterns of blood flow at the operative site of Calcaneus fractures, when compared to the uninjured extremity? Are changes in blood flow identifiable at the operative site post operatively? Are there certain patterns of blood flow present preoperatively or postoperatively that can predict wound complication? Can certain patterns of blood flow predict the location of slough or dehiscence after surgery? Does the incision site and its proximity to specific patterns of blood flow possibly predict wound complication? The hypothesis is that the study drug will show a correlation between certain patterns of blood flow and whatever post-operative complications may arise.

Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery vs Flexible Single Incision Surgery for Cholecystectomy

Prospective randomized pilot clinical trial, with 3 arms and one year follow up. The study will include 60 patients, with a 1:1:1 ratio, 20 patients per group. In 40 patients a transumbilical single site incision will be performed with two different manners: single-port device SILS TM (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery), and flexible endoscope and accessory trocars in a single incision (FSIS-Flexible Single Incision Surgery). The third group is the control one, a conventional laparoscopic approach. The trial is designed as a pilot study to assess, as main objective, if these two endoscopic approaches have the same security and effectiveness in cholecystectomy. Hypothesis: Transumbilical approaches with single port and single incision with the flexible endoscope have the same efficacy and safety performing the endoscopic cholecystectomy. Objectives: Main objective: Assess whether both approaches are equally safe in its application to endoscopic cholecystectomy. Secondary objectives: Investigate the differences in the rate of conversion to open surgery between different surgical approaches. Investigate the differences in the rate of wound infection between the different surgical approaches. Investigate the differences in the rate of postoperative incisional hernias between different surgical approaches. Investigate whether there are differences in the rate of overall complications, all-cause mortality and the cost between different surgical approaches.

It is increasingly recognised that the debridement of devitalised, bacterially contaminated or senescent tissue is an essential component of the effective treatment of delayed healing wounds. Whilst surgical debridement procedures have conventionally been performed with scalpels and other sharp instrumentation, alternative techniques such as the VERSAJET Hydrosurgery System are becoming more widespread. To increase the adoption of this new technology, it is essential that clinical improvements are assessed alongside the potential impact on the costs of debridement and the net financial impact on the hospital. It is hypothesised that a decrease in the time to achieve stable wound closure will not only lead to a patient benefit, but also a potential reduction in the cost of treatment due to e.g. repeat procedures, longer hospital stay, infection etc. The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference in time to closure of wounds surgically excised with VERSAJET Hydrosurgery System and those surgically excised using conventional operating room techniques.
