A Randomised Comparison Between Single Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and Standard Laparoscopic...
CholecystectomyLaparoscopicLaparoscopic cholecystectomy has been established as the treatment of choice for symptomatic gallstone disease. The main advantages of laparoscopic surgery are the cosmetic result, reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay and rapid return to normal activity. Although reduced, however, pain is still substantial and constitutes the main clinical problem after laparoscopic cholecystectomy, especially for planned day case procedures. Recently, a new technique of laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been developed, in which all instruments are inserted through the same umbilical incision. The single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) technique for cholecystectomy has been proved to be feasible and safe by several studies. The purpose of the study is to compare postoperative pain and operating time, nausea, vomiting, tissue damage, pulmonary function, cosmetic result, quality of life between SILS and standard laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
CGF Influence on Post-operative Complications.
CGFBone Loss1 moreThe aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of CGF application into post-operative soft tissue and bone defects on post-operative complications and wound healing.
Evaluation of the Effectiveness of a Closed-incision Negative-pressure Therapy (Prevena®) on Bilateral...
Bilateral Vascular Groin SurgeryClosed-incision negative-pressure therapy are medical device that are suspected to reduce groin wound complication in vascular surgery. The aim of this study is to compareon on the same patient a Closed-incision negative-pressure therapy (Prevena®, KCI) versus a traditional gauze dressings after a bilateral vascular groin surgery. To do this, each device is applied on one groin incision and the side, left or right, is randomized.
Comparing Efficacy of Postoperative Oral Antibiotic Use in Trans-Oral Thyroidectomy
Surgical Wound InfectionThyroid NoduleTransoral endoscopic thyroid surgery is a emerging surgical technique for thyroid surgery. This study to investigate the need for postoperative antibiotics in transoral endoscopic thyroid surgery.
Antibiotics Usage in Pediatric Orthopaedic Percutaneous Surgery (APOPS)
Supracondylar Humerus FracturePost Operative Wound InfectionThe aim of this study is to determine if antibiotics affect the outcome after percutaneous surgery for pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures. The patient population will be recruited from the cohort presenting to Women and Children's Hospital for percutaneous fixation of pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures who meet the eligibility criteria and consent to taking part in the study. Patients will be followed up for 3-6 weeks depending on age, and will be evaluated on the presence or absence superficial or deep infection, Visual Analog Scale pain scores, time to healing, need for repeat casting, and loss of fixation.
Evaluating the Outcomes for Incisional Application of Negative Pressure for Nontraumatic Amputations...
Surgical WoundWound Heal1 moreThe purpose of this study is to evaluate how well subjects heal after surgery who receive standard dressings or incisional negative pressure wound therapy for non-traumatic amputation sites.
Minimization of Surgical Site Infections for Pts Undergoing Colorectal Surgery
Surgical Wound InfectionsColorectal SurgeryThis is a comparison, at this VA Hospital, of standard operating room management in colorectal surgery to a more rigid management using an additional five previously tested treatments to determine if this changes the rate of post operative wound infections.
Recolonization Following Preoperative Disinfection Plastic Adhesive Drapes
Surgical Wound InfectionThe purpose of this study is to measure the time to recolonization intraoperatively after preoperative disinfection with chlorhexidine solution in ethanol and to determine evidence of differential bacterial growth with or without plastic adhesive drape on the chest as well as with or without microbial sealant on the leg.
Prospective PuraPly™ AM Case Series Study
Pressure UlcersVenous Ulcers3 moreThe PuraPly AM case series is a prospective, observational study for patients who have received PuraPly AM which consists of a collagen sheet coated with polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB) and is intended for the management of wounds; no experimental intervention is involved.
Vaginal Cuff Dehiscence at Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Surgical Wound DehiscenceThe aim of this study is to assess a major complication of total laparoscopic hysterectomy, vaginal dehiscence, with two different colpotomy techniques. With this aim patients to be operated for laparoscopic hysterectomy will be randomized to two different techniques. The colpotomy will be undertaken by 'cut mode' in the first group and 'coagulation mode' in the second group. All of the operations will be preformed by the same surgical at a university hospital. Vaginal dehiscence after surgery is the primary outcome measure.
