VASCADE ANTEGRADE-PVD Post-Market Registry

Surgical Wound

The objective of the registry is to collect procedural outcomes data when the Cardiva VASCADE Vascular Closure System (VCS) is used to seal femoral arterial access sites at the completion of ipsilateral peripheral interventional procedures performed through 5-7F introducer sheaths via an antegrade approach.

A Prospective, Randomized, Comparative Study to Assess the Prevention of Surgical Site Infection...

Surgical Incision

The primary aim of this study is to determine if the SSI rate following revision total hip and knee arthroplasty is reduced in patients treated with the PICO device compared to patients with traditional postoperative dressings. Our secondary goals include; comparing the amount of wound drainage, rate of resolution of wound drainage, length of hospital stay, functional outcomes, and economic implications of wound drainage and SSI after revision arthroplasty comparing PICO and traditional dressings.

Optimal Time for Staple/Dressing Removal

Surgical Wound HealingSurgical Wound Infection1 more

The medical literature does not provide sufficient information or recommendation regarding the optimal time to remove the staples and the bandage after a cesarean section. The goal of this study is to compare 5 groups of patients: staple removal on POD 4 and dressing removal on Post Operative Day (POD)1 staple removal on POD 4 and dressing removal on Post Operative Day (POD)4 staple removal on POD 7 and dressing removal on Post Operative Day (POD)1 staple removal on POD 7 and dressing removal on Post Operative Day (POD)7 staple removal on POD 4 and dressing removal on Post Operative Day (POD)7 Since there is no definite protocol for staple and dressing removal, we will adapt the above protocol each for a 3-4 month period of time. Patients will be contacted to either return for a follow up visit or to answer a telephone survey.

Randomized Comparison of Sharp Versus Blunt Techniques at Cesarean

Disruption of Uterine Incision After Cesarean Section

The purpose of this study is to determine whether a specific surgical technique, blunt compared with sharp expansion of the transverse lower uterine incision, is associated with risk of unintended extension of uterine incision

Study Evaluating Severe Surgical Site Infections (SSIs) Following Contaminated Or Dirty-infected...

Surgical Wound InfectionPostoperative Wound Infection

This is an observational study to evaluate the relative importance of the known risk factors for severe surgical site infections (SSIs) on the development of the more severe SSI cases, and to describe the demographic, clinical features, etiology and the management and outcome of patients suffering from severe SSIs in Spain.

HISTOACRYL: A Study of Its Efficacy in Final Scar Formation

Surgical Incisions

The use of tissue adhesives for the closure of surgical incisions is becoming increasingly common. Several publications exist purporting the equivalence of tissue adhesive to suture with regard to dehiscence, infection, and cosmesis. Two of the most frequently used adhesives are Histoacryl© and Dermabond©. Despite their popularity, only one study exists comparing the two. In this non-English study only small wounds in an exclusively pediatric population were studied (12). Operative time, cost, and objective measures of scar size were not examined. In the present study we aim to evaluate the relatively large surgical incisions resulting from breast reduction, mastopexy, panniculectomy, and abdominoplasty closed with either Histoacryl©, Dermabond©, or subcuticular suture. The primary aim is to investigate differences in time to wound closure. Secondary aims are to compare the three approaches with respect to cost, dehiscence, infection, scar size, and cosmesis.

Pupillary Pain Index and Reaction to Skin Incision

PainAnesthesia1 more

During routine general anesthesia (not standardized, left to the discretion of the attending anesthesiologist), pupillary pain index was measured one minute before skin incision. Then, variations in heart rate, blood pressure and bispectral index during the three minutes following skin incision were recorded, as well as the occurrence of movements.

Analysis of the Incidence of Post-Operative Wound Infections After Spine Surgery

Infection

Post-operative wound infections can prolong hospital stays, increase rates of readmission to the intensive care unit, and increase the costs of treatment significantly. This study will conduct a prospective chart review of all patients undergoing elective spinal surgery on both the neurosurgery and orthopedic spine services at two facilities on an academic campus. The investigators will collect the data of those patients who develop post-surgical infections. This data will then be analyzed and compared to published data from other studies. The aim of this investigation is to passively collect this infection data, which may ultimately provide needed baseline incidence rates using current and standard protocols.

Exploratory Prospective of Experienced by Patients in the Surgery of Skin Cancers of the Face in...

Skin Cancer FaceSurgical Incision

Surgery is the first-line treatment of localized skin cancers. Knowledge on the patient's psychological experience is limited. Therefore, the psychological impact on patients before, during and after surgery can be underestimated. Moreover, the diagnosis of cancer disturbs the patient's entire life and the onset of anxiety disorders is frequent following this announcement.
