Donor Stem Cell Transplant or Donor White Blood Cell Infusions in Treating Patients With Hematologic...

Chronic Myeloproliferative DisordersLeukemia5 more

RATIONALE: A peripheral stem cell transplant or an umbilical cord blood transplant from a donor may be able to replace blood-forming cells that were destroyed by chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Giving an infusion of the donor's white blood cells (donor lymphocyte infusion) after the transplant may help destroy any remaining cancer cells (graft-versus-tumor effect). Sometimes the transplanted cells can make an immune response against the body's normal cells. Methotrexate, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, or methylprednisolone may stop this from happening. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well a donor stem cell transplant or donor white blood cell infusions work in treating patients with hematologic cancer.

Research Study Using Recombinant Human Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1/Recombinant Human Insulin-Like...

Noonan Syndrome

The trial will investigate the treatment of growth failure in children with Noonan syndrome. Abnormalities in the growth hormone (GH) - insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) axis resulting in low IGF-I levels have been suggested as a possible cause of short stature seen in Noonan syndrome children. Administration of our investigational product is intended to bypass the abnormalities in the GH-IGF axis, and hopefully improve body growth.

Cyclophosphamide Plus T-Cell Transplantation for Patients With Hematologic Malignancies

LeukemiaMyelodysplastic Syndromes

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cyclophosphamide, work in different ways to stop the growth of abnormal blood cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving cyclophosphamide together with donor lymphocytes that have been treated in the laboratory may be an effective treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes or myeloproliferative disorders. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying the best dose of donor lymphocytes when given together with cyclophosphamide in treating patients with myelodysplastic syndromes or myeloproliferative disorders.

Azacitidine and Arsenic Trioxide in Treating Patients With Myelodysplastic Syndromes

LeukemiaMyelodysplastic Syndromes

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as azacitidine and arsenic trioxide, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving more than one drug (combination chemotherapy) may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of azacitidine when given together with arsenic trioxide and to see how well they work in treating patients with myelodysplastic syndromes.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Sleep Apnea

Polycystic Ovary SyndromeObstructive Sleep Apnea

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 5-10% of women in the United States. Its onset is usually at the time of puberty with manifestations of menstrual irregularity, hirsutism, and obesity. Women with PCOS suffer at an early stage of adulthood from all of the components of the metabolic syndrome, a syndrome that typically has its peak in mid-life in other subject populations. Women with PCOS are more insulin resistant than weight-matched control women and have exceptionally high rates of early-onset impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes, as well as a substantially elevated risk for hypertension, dyslipidemia, coronary, and other vascular diseases. While recent evidence indicates that the prevalence of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is 30-40 fold higher in PCOS than in weight-matched control women, the possible role of SDB in causing the increased metabolic and cardiovascular risks of PCOS has not been evaluated. The overall objective of the proposed study is to analyze the direction of causality between sleep disturbances and markers of the metabolic syndrome in PCOS.

Phase III Randomized Study of SYNSORB Pk in Children With E. Coli-Associated Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome...

Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome

OBJECTIVES: I. Determine the effect of SYNSORB Pk therapy on mortality and frequency of severe extrarenal complications observed in children with acute stage E. coli-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome. II. Determine the effect of SYNSORB Pk therapy on the need for the duration of dialysis in these patients. III. Determine the effect of SYNSORB Pk therapy on the recovery of renal function and resolution of urinary abnormalities in these patients.
