Inhaled Nitric Oxide Study for Respiratory Failure in Newborns

InfantNewborn8 more

Respiratory failure in term newborns is associated with increased rates of death and long-term neurodevelopmental problems. This large international multicenter trial randomized newborns who had failed to respond to intensive care, including high levels of ventilator support, to receive either inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) or 100 percent oxygen to test whether iNO would decrease their risk of dying or requiring temporary lung bypass. Infants were followed during their initial hospitalization; their outcome was assessed at 18 to 24 mos of age.

Tanespimycin and Bortezomib in Treating Patients With Advanced Solid Tumors or Lymphomas

Adult Grade III Lymphomatoid GranulomatosisAIDS-related Peripheral/Systemic Lymphoma56 more

This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of giving tanespimycin together with bortezomib in treating patients with advanced solid tumors or lymphomas. (Accrual for lymphoma patients closed as of 11/27/09) Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as tanespimycin, work in different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Bortezomib may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking the enzymes necessary for their growth. It may also increase the effectiveness of tanespimycin by making cancer cells more sensitive to the drug. Combining tanespimycin with bortezomib may kill more cancer cells.

Evaluation of the Occurrence of Lipoatrophy in HIV-1 Infected Naive Patients

HIV InfectionsHIV-Associated Lipodystrophy Syndrome

The aim of this randomized study is to compare the occurrence of lipoatrophy in HIV-1 infected, naive patients receiving either a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI)-sparing antiretroviral therapy with non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) and boosted protease inhibitor (PI), or a standard antiretroviral therapy with 2 NRTI plus either PI or NNRTI. Lipoatrophy is evaluated by measurement of fat volume by computed tomography (CT)-scan and DEXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry).

Therapeutic Allogeneic Lymphocytes and Aldesleukin in Treating Patients With High-Risk or Recurrent...

Accelerated Phase Chronic Myelogenous LeukemiaAcute Myeloid Leukemia With Multilineage Dysplasia Following Myelodysplastic Syndrome13 more

This phase I/II trial is studies the side effects of giving therapeutic allogeneic lymphocytes together with aldesleukin and to see how well it works in treating patients with high-risk or recurrent myeloid leukemia after undergoing donor stem cell transplant. Biological therapies, such as therapeutic autologous lymphocytes, may stimulate the immune system in different ways and stop cancer cells from growing. Aldesleukin may stimulate the white blood cells to kill cancer cells. Giving therapeutic autologous lymphocytes together with aldesleukin may kill more cancer cells

The Relationship of Premenstrual Syndrome and Primary Dysmenorrhea With Severity of Temporomandibular...

Primary DysmenorrheaPremenstrual Syndrome1 more

Premenstrual pain, menstrual pain, other pains, and somatic symptoms may occur together. Therefore, this study aims to examine the severity of temporomandibular disorders in individuals complaining of premenstrual syndrome or dysmenorrhea and its relationship.

Effect of Laser Acupuncture on Metabolic Syndrome in Obese Postmenopausal Women

Metabolic Syndrome

Thirty postmenopausal women were collected from outpatient clinic of faculty of physical therapy in Benha University to participate in this study. Their ages were ranged from 55-65 years old and their body mass index (BMI) ranged from 30 to 34.9 Kg/m2. They were divided randomly into 2 equal groups; Group A: received diet regimen, Group B: received diet regimen and treated with laser acupuncture for 30 minutes, 3 sessions per week for two months

Score TO Predict SHOCK - STOP SHOCK

Cardiogenic ShockAcute Coronary Syndrome1 more

The goal of this international multicenter study is to develop a scoring system to identify the risk of developing cardiogenic shock (CS) in patients suffering from acute coronary syndrome (ACS) utilising artificial intelligence. Study hypothesis: A complex machine learning (ML) model utilising standard patient's admission data predicts the development of cardiogenic shock in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction better than standard prediction models. Study objectives: The primary objective of this study is to further improve predictive parameters of #STOPSHOCK model for prediction of development of cardiogenic shock in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction. The secondary objective of this study is to develop a new predictive model for the development of cardiogenic shock in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction based on larger combined cohort of patients utilising advanced ML algorithms, continuous model performance monitoring and continual learning.

Ultrastructural Collagen Markers in Ehlers Danlos Syndromes

Ehlers-Danlos SyndromeClassical Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome1 more

Establishing the diagnosis of Ehlers Danlos Syndromes (EDS)/generalized hypermobility spectrum disorders (G-HSD) is often problematic for patients. The absence of a precise unifying diagnosis in patients results in a significant emotional burden on the patient and caregivers, not to mention the hidden costs, including multiple recurring visits to several medical specialists and associated social and economic costs. To date, while collagen ultra-scale morphological heterogeneity has been used to comment on an EDS diagnosis, the mechanical properties of the collagen remain mostly unexplored. From a biophysical point of view, collagen affected with hEDS can be described as biomechanically deficient. In the case of EDS, the skin's abnormal elasticity can be directly related to the organization of the collagen network within the dermis. Quantitative Nanohistology (QNH) is a newer method to evaluate both the structural and mechanical properties of collagen in-situ histological sections. Therefore, the aim of this study is to define histo-biophysical markers of two most common types of EDS i.e. classical EDS (cEDS) & hypermobile EDS (hEDS) at the single collagen fibrils level and matrix and to further explore the origin of collagen fibril properties deficiency in hEDS and cEDS.
