The shoulder impingement syndrome is often described as anterior lateral shoulder pain that provoked during shoulder elevation. The pain occurs during shoulder elevation and causes limited range of motion. Moreover, the patients with shoulder impingement syndrome commonly had a forward head posture and slouching shoulder. There is a theory that illustrates the mechanical factors lead to the injury of the bursa or rotator cuff tendons below the subacromial space which is highly related to the posture and scapular movement. Various treatments for shoulder impingement syndrome including medical treatments such as anti-inflammatory drugs, subacromial decompression, and acromion resection surgery. Conventional physical therapy treatments for shoulder impingement syndrome included modalities, exercises and manual therapy. Exercise has been showed to give a significant effect to decrease the pain intensity, increasing the range of motion and shoulder function. There is evidence that supports the use of manual therapy on shoulder impingement, the recent technique introduced by Brian Mulligan is mobilization with movement. Mobilization with movement is a manual therapy technique that uses the active movement while the physical therapist applies an accessory force to align the positional fault of the joint. A previous study investigated the effect of mobilization with movement that uses the mobilization with movement in shoulder impingement syndrome showed different outcomes in the measurement of pain intensity and shoulder range of motion. As the posture may be related to shoulder impingement syndrome, this research will measure the cervical posture, shoulder posture, and muscle strength. Therefore, the purposes of this study will be to compare the effects of conventional physical therapy treatments and the conventional therapy treatments plus the mobilization with movement on pain intensity, shoulder range of motion, cervical and shoulder posture, shoulder muscle strength and shoulder function. The study hypothesis was that mobilization with movement is more effective in improving the investigated outcomes in individuals with shoulder impingement syndrome than the conventional physical therapy.

This could considerably reduce the time needed per visit, the number of visits, and the number of devices needed to be manufactured to reach the endpoint. Additionally, the scanning technology may afford the opportunity to successfully fit some pathology that were previously treatment failures. The automated technology may as well reduce the intensive clinician training time needed to fit PROSE devices, therefore increasing the availability and access to patients. The goal of this research is to evaluate the reliability and efficacy of this automated technology for fitting PROSE devices. Data from real-time measurement of the human eye ocular surface topography will be used to fabricate a prosthetic lens. The fit of the PROSE device will be evaluated, as well as the subjective comfort of the fit.

The Efficacy of Single-strain Probiotics in Patients With Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable Bowel SyndromeIrritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common, yet still not fully understood, gastrointestinal disorders in adults. One suspected etiology involves intestinal dysbiosis, i.e. both quantitative and qualitative alterations in intestinal microbiota composition, which affects the gut-brain axis. Probiotics are live microorganisms, which-administered at the right dose-are beneficial for human health; their mechanism of action involves modifying the gut microbiota. Clinical study reports document that probiotic administration is beneficial for patients with IBS. The ultimate clinical effects depend primarily on probiotic strain selection. Our research team evaluated a multi-strain probiotic formulation and a multi-strain synbiotic (a combination of probiotic strains with short-chain prebiotic fructooligosaccharides) formulation as part of two randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials in patients with IBS with predominant diarrhea. The results indicated a beneficial effect of these formulations on the clinical course of IBS assessed with the international IBS symptom severity scale (IBS-SSS), with each of the study formulations exhibiting efficacy in different fields. The formulation composed of a mixture of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains reduced the levels of pain and improved the quality of life, whereas the synbiotic formulation effectively improved bloating and had a beneficial effect on the general condition of the intestines. A systematic review and meta-analysis published in 2020 showed that high doses of single-strain formulations, particularly those containing Bifidobacterium or Lactobacillus strains, may be more effective in IBS patients. Other reports demonstrated a high efficacy of the new-generation probiotic Bacillus coagulans in IBS. Therefore, the main objective of this research project is to assess the efficacy of single-strain probiotics containing Bifidobacterium lactis or Bacillus coagulans in patients with IBS.

A study will be conducted to evaluate the effect of sevoflurane as inhalation sedation in patients with ARDS secondary to SARS-COV2 compared to the standard. The primary objective of the study is to assess the difference in oxygenation, for which the calculation of the partial pressure of arterial oxygen to fractional inspired oxygen concentration ratio (PaO2 / FiO2) will be used at 24 and 48 hours. Also, the effect of the possible attenuation or inhibition of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction will be evaluated by hemodynamic monitoring with a pulmonary artery catheter and transthoracic echocardiography and its possible effect on the right ventricle.
