Acupuncture for the Sleep Disorder of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The investigators will conduct acupuncture for participants with chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS). Firstly the investigators aim to figure out the characteristic of sleep structure of CFS and the changes caused by acupuncture. Secondly the investigators seek to investigate the characteristic of sleep-wake rhythm, slow wave sleep(SWS)-rapid eye movement(REM)sleep rhythm, and REM sleep rhythm of CFS and the readjusting of acupuncture for it. Thirdly the investigators want to know the efficacy of acupuncture for relieving the fatigue, reducing accompanying symptoms and for improving the life quality of CFS.

Idiopathic Restless Legs Syndrome

The aims of the trial are to assess the safety and the efficacy of SPM 962 following once-a-daily transdermal administration within a range of 2.25 to 6.75 mg/day in Japanese patients with restless legs syndrome (RLS) in a multi-center, open-label trial. The maximum treatment period is 53 weeks. The trial is an extension trial from the precedent 6-week, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, parallel-group comparative trial(243-07-003). The trial is also for an exploratory investigation of incidence of augmentation, the most problematic complications in dopaminergic treatment.

Rotator Cuff Shoulder Syndrome and Allied Disorders

The purpose of this study is to determine whether radio-frequency (RF)-based plasma micro-tenotomy has a positive effective for the treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome with cuff tendinosis. Eighty patients with impingement syndrome and cuff tendinosis that treated arthroscopic were enrolled in the study. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either arthroscopic subacromial decompression alone (ASD group, n=40) or arthroscopic subacromial decompression combined with RF-based plasma micro-tenotomy (RF group, n=40). Clinical outcome data including VAS(Visual Analogue Scale) pain score, Shoulder range of motion (ROM), ASES(American Shoulder And Elbow Surgeons) score, UCLA(University of California, Los Angeles) score, Constant-Murley score and SST(Simple Shoulder Test) score were recorded preoperatively and at postoperative 3-week, 6-week, 3-month, 6-month and 1-year.

Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS)Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML)

Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) is a disease of the bone marrow characterized by anemia,neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia (low red blood cell, white blood cell, and platelet counts). MDS patients with thrombocytopenia who fail standard therapies require regular platelet transfusions which are expensive and inconvenient, and are a risk for further serious bleeding complications. The new treatment of MDS using azacitidine has shown to increase the survival rate of MDS patients including to improve platelet production over time. However,in the early cycles of treatment with azacitidine,the low platelet counts tend to exacerbate before they provide any clinical benefit. Eltrombopag is a drug designed to activate the thrombopoietin receptor. Eltrombopag has been able to increase platelet counts in healthy Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP), a disease where patients destroy their own platelets very rapidly and thus develop thrombocytopenia. Eltrombopag is administered orally and is Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved for the treatment of thrombocytopenia in patients with chronic ITP who failed to respond to standard treatment. This study is a single arm pilot study to evaluate the safety and tolerability of Eltrombopag in the treatment of low platelet counts in adult subjects with MDS treated using azacitidine This study also incorporates a correlative laboratory component designed to determined the mechanism of action of 5-azacitidine +/- Eltrombopag and to determine a baseline profile which may predict those most responsive. These studies will incorporate gene methylation and expression, and immunoprofiling.

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the effects (good and bad) of supplementation with Glutamine to that of a placebo (L-alanine), on your child and their Short Bowel Syndrome. Researchers are doing this study to see if the addition of Glutamine to oral/tube feeding (nutrition therapy) will work better by preventing bloodstream infections, improving growth, and/or changing the make-up of bacteria in your child's intestine. Glutamine is approved by the FDA for use in adults with Short Bowel Syndrome. In this study, the investigators will be assessing how well Glutamine affects Short Bowel Syndrome in children.
