Impact of 'SESL01' Lens on Computer Vision Syndrome
Computer Vision SyndromeThe increased use of digital devices such as computers, smart-phones, tablets, and laptops has transformed how people learn and work and has increased the use of screens. This has created visual challenges for some users, such as maintaining a clear vision for a long period even when looking at different devices. Consequently, digital device users can experience eye problems such as blurred vision, eye strain, headaches, and dry eyes. Such problems are more common in people aged 21-45, and it seems that the COVID-19 pandemic has worsened them. Studies suggest that using specially designed lenses could reduce these problems. Therefore, the investigators aim to study whether specially designed lenses are more effective than standard ones in minimising these problems. The study will be conducted at the University of Central Lancashire at the Preston campus (UK). The study will recruit 300 participants, divided into two equal groups. Participants in group A will receive spectacles with special lenses while group B will receive spectacles with standard lenses. All Participants will be assessed three times, at 4-week intervals, and the final analysis will be performed at 14 weeks. The reduction of the eye problems will be assessed using a validated questionnaire which will produce a score that will be compared between the two groups at the end of the study. The study's potential benefits are twofold: Patients using the new lenses will hopefully see a reduction in eye problems Opticians will provide be able to provide better patient care.
Evaluation of a Conservative Treatment by Nocturnal Wrist Orthosis in the Non-surgical Management...
Carpal Tunnel SyndromeThis study focuses on the evaluation of 2 nocturnal wrist orthosis prescribed as part of a non-surgical management of carpal tunnel syndrome in order to determine their effectiveness in reducing the symptoms associated with the syndrome and to highlight the superiority or the inferiority of one over the other. It will also be possible to assess their comfort and compliance as well as the impact of wearing them on neurological and muscular recovery (functional assessment).
RNS System LGS Feasibility Study
EpilepsyLennox Gastaut Syndrome5 moreTo generate preliminary safety and effectiveness data for brain-responsive neurostimulation of thalamocortical networks as an adjunctive therapy in reducing the frequency of generalized seizures in individuals 12 years of age or older with Lennox Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) who are refractory to antiseizure medications. The intent is to determine the feasibility and the optimal design of a subsequent pivotal study in order to expand the indication for use for the RNS System as a treatment for patients with medically intractable LGS.
HRS-AKI Treatment With TIPS in Patients With Cirrhosis
CirrhosisLiver3 moreThe study compares the effectiveness and safety of TIPS implantation in patients with HRS-AKI (stage 2 and 3) and liver cirrhosis with standard therapy (drug therapy with terlipressin + albumin).
Biofeedback and Hydrogen Water as Treatments for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Chronic Fatigue SyndromeThe aim of this 10-week pilot study is to explore the potential benefit of two recently developed non-invasive interventions, heart rate variability biofeedback (HRV-BF) and OTC supplement hydrogen water, for the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Symptom measures and heart monitoring information will be generated by this study. Given the lack of effective treatments in this illness, these two non-invasive home-based treatments may help patients feel and function better.
Safety and Effectiveness of Placental Derived Exosomes and Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells...
COVID-19 Acute Respiratory Distress SyndromeRespiratory Distress SyndromeRecent advances have been made in prevention of the viral infection via vaccines but there is still need for effective treatment options for patients. Novel therapies need to be developed to further improve clinical outcomes. The biggest medical challenge in the response to COVID-19 is ARDS requiring hospitalization in an intensive care setting and ventilator dependence. Intravenously administered umbilical cord derived exosomes and stem cells have been reported in literature to alleviate pulmonary distress in such patients. The purpose of this study is to explore the safety and benefits of intravenous administration of WJPure and EVPure in the treatment of COVID-19 patients with moderate to severe ARDS. .
Efficacy and Safety of WPQW Granule for Overlap of NERD and IBS-D
Non-erosive Reflux DiseaseDiarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel SyndromeNon-erosive reflux disease(NERD)and Diarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS-D)are both the common refractory gastrointestinal diseases. Patients, who suffered from overlapping symptoms of NERD and IBS-D, present more serious symptom manifestation, anxiety, and worse life quality than those with solely disease. There is lack of effective treatment for overlapping gastrointestinal symptoms. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndrome differentiation and treatment has the advantages of overall regulation and individualized treatment, but lack of high-level evidence. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of WPQW granule for the treatment of NERD overlapping IBS-D.
BotulInum Toxin Type A for Peripheral Neuropathic Pain in subjEcts With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Carpal Tunnel SyndromeNeurogenic Inflammation3 moreThe main purpose of the study is to assess the safety and efficacy of repeated administrations of BoNT-A in subjects with NP attributable to carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) through a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Further research has shown that BoNT-A has analgesic properties independently from its action on muscle tone, possibly by acting on neurogenic inflammation. Therefore, the study drug may be better than other treatments surgical or non-surgical currently available for the treatment of CTS.
Positive Emotions Following Acute Cardiac Events
Acute Coronary SyndromePhysical InactivityThe focus of this study is to test the efficacy of a 12-week, remotely delivered, positive-psychology-motivational interviewing (PP-MI) intervention, with additional twice weekly text messages for a total of 24 weeks (with interactive, algorithm-driven, goal-focused text messages in the final 12 weeks), compared to post-acute coronary syndrome (ACS) treatment as usual, in a randomized trial of 280 post-ACS patients with low baseline physical activity.
Conditioning Electrical Stimulation to Improve Outcomes in Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
Cubital Tunnel SyndromeElectrical StimulationCubital tunnel syndrome is the second most common compression neuropathy. In severe cases, functional recovery, even with surgery, is often poor. Therefore, alternative adjunct treatments capable of increasing the speed of nerve regeneration are much needed.
