Prothrombotic Inflammatory Markers in Women With Metabolic Syndrome - Effect of Atorvastatin

Metabolic Syndrome

Little is known regarding the association of individual components of the metabolic syndrome (MBS) and prothrombotic, inflammatory and preclinical cardiac structural and functional markers in women with this syndrome. Less is known about adequate treatment as the pathological mechanism of this syndrome is not well understood. The purpose of this study is two fold; To determine basic differences in biochemical and cardiovascular structural markers in women with and those without MBS and their association with the individual components of MBS. To determine the impact of atorvastatin to lower the risk factors of Metabolic Syndrome. Atorvastatin is one of the most effective drugs approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of high cholesterol. It belongs to a class of drugs called statins and its role in primary prevention is still unclear. Thus this population seems to be an ideal group that may benefit from this intervention.

Non Invasive Ventilation : Efficacy of a New Ventilatory Mode in Patients With OHS

Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome

In 2012, it has announced the availability of the new ventilator (BiPAP- A40), which could offer potential advantages over fixed level pressure support, in particular, in patients with obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS). One of the key benefits of the BiPAP A40 is an innovative ventilation mode called AVAPS-AE, which automatically maintains airway patency while delivering the correct level of ventilation each user requires, whatever their body position or sleep stage. AVAPS-AE mode is also aimed to help the clinicians during the initial titration of therapy, while providing long term comfort and assuring therapy compliance. However, studies on the physiologic and clinical effects have not yet been performed. The aim of our singled-blind randomised multicentre controlled trial is to prospectively investigate the effects of BiPAP with the spontaneous/timed (S/T) or the AVAPS-AE ventilation mode over 8 weeks on sleep quality, ventilation pattern, gas exchange, symptoms, body composition, level of physical activity and health-related quality of life in OHS patients.

Auriculotherapy in the Cares to the Premenstrual Syndrome

Premenstrual Syndrome

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is a collection of physical and emotional symptoms related to a woman's menstrual cycle. These symptoms occurring only during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle that are of sufficient severity to interfere with some aspects of life of these women, reflecting also in interpersonal relationships, workplace and in their productivity. For these reasons, this research was conducted with the nursing staff of the Samaritan Hospital in order to verify the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture to alleviate some of the symptoms of PMS.

Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells For Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

This is a Phase 1, open label, dose escalation, multi-center clinical trial of Allogeneic Bone Marrow-Derived Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells (hMSCs) for the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The purpose of this study is to assess the safety of hMSCs in patients with ARDS.

Treatment for Endogenous Cushing's Syndrome

Endogenous Cushing's Syndrome

The primary objectives of this study are to evaluate the clinical responder rate, defined as the proportion of subjects with normal UFC after 6 months of treatment with COR-003 in the Maintenance Phase without dose increase, and to evaluate the range of effective doses in subjects with various levels of hypercortisolism.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Neurocognitive and Cardiovascular Function in Children With Down Syndrome...

Down SyndromeObstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome

Many individuals with Down syndrome (DS) have breathing problems during sleep. This is called obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). OSAS is very common in individuals with Down syndrome because of the shape of their face and tongue and because of their low muscle tone. OSAS can cause a lot of health problems including behavioral and learning problems as well as heart problems. The purpose of this research study is to look at the effects of treating OSAS in individuals with Down syndrome with a machine called Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). The investigators want to see if treatment of OSAS improves learning, behavior and heart problems.

Oral and IV Baclofen in Adult Volunteers

Baclofen Withdrawal Syndrome

The primary objective of this study is to characterize baclofen pharmacokinetics following oral and intravenous administration in patients who are on chronic oral baclofen therapy. The secondary objective is to determine the safety profile of an IV baclofen formulation. This study is a randomized crossover study with two treatment arms. All subjects will receive a dose of oral baclofen and a dose of IV baclofen on separate study days. Whether the oral or intravenous form is given on the first study day will be randomized in a 1:1 manner. The pharmacokinetic and tolerability information gained from this study will support the development of further studies to assess the use of IV baclofen to prevent or treat baclofen withdrawal syndrome.

Donor Natural Killer Cells and Donor Stem Cell Transplant in Treating Patients With High Risk Myeloid...

Accelerated Phase Chronic Myelogenous LeukemiaBCR-ABL1 Positive16 more

This phase I/II trial studies the side effects and best dose of donor natural killer cells when given together with donor stem cell transplant and to see how well they work in treating patients with myeloid malignancies that are likely to come back or spread. Giving chemotherapy, such as busulfan and fludarabine phosphate, before a donor peripheral blood stem cell transplant helps stop the growth of cancer cells. It may also stop the patient's immune system from rejecting the donor's stem cells. When the healthy stem cells and natural killer cells from a donor are infused into the patient they may help the patient's bone marrow make stem cells, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
