Donor Human Milk in Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome

This study is designed to develop pilot data on the acceptability and benefit of donor human milk for infants undergoing pharmacologic treatment for NAS. Specifically, gastrointestinal (GI) sub-scores, as well as total scores, will be compared between infants historically fed formula and those enrolled in a 2-week donor human milk study period. Purpose of study: to test the following null hypothesis: Infants with a diagnosis of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) due to in-utero exposure to opiates, fed donor human milk, will have similar GI/feeding sub-scores of the Finnegan scoring tool when compared to (historic) infants fed formula. A rejection of the null hypothesis will be used to design a randomized trial of donor human milk in infants with NAS.

Non-interventional Study of Lenalidomide in the Clinical Routine Treatment of TD Patients With IPSS...

Myelodysplastic Syndrome

This registry is a prospective, non-interventional, post authorisation safety study for patients diagnosed with Transfusion Dependent, IPSS low or intermediate-1-Risk Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), associated to a single abnormality of the chromosome 5 [del(5q)]. The purpose of this study is to collect additional data about the safety of an oral drug (lenalidomide, Revlimid®) that may have been prescribed to relieve anemia and decrease the need of blood transfusions. However, also patients affected by the MDS del(5q) who receive other treatments different from lenalidomide can be included in this study, if they agree.

Rapid Assessment of Potential Ischaemic Heart Disease With CTCA

Acute Coronary Syndrome

This study aims to investigate the effect of early CTCA in patients with suspected or confirmed Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) or Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), upon interventions, event rates and health care costs in a pragmatic clinical trial and economic evaluation up to 1 year after the trial intervention. The primary objective will be to investigate the effect of the intervention on all-cause death or subsequent type 1 or type 4b MI at one year, measured as time to first such event.

Examination of the Pathophysiologic Mechanisms of CRPS by Using QST, CPM, RIC, and Heart Rate Variability...

Complex Regional Pain SyndromeCarpal Tunnel Syndrome1 more

This study aims for a better understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms of the complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). This will be done by testing the quantitative sensory testing, the remote ischemic conditioning, the conditioned pain modulation (CPM) and the analysis of the heart-rate variability in patients with CRPS and a control-group. We hypothesize decreased conditioned pain modulation, less effects of remote ischemic conditioning and an affection of the heart-rate variability in patients with CPRS.

Metabolic Syndrome, Bile Acids, Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Cholangiocarcinoma

Morbid ObesityVertical Sleeve Gastrectomy4 more

Increasing rates of highly malignant hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and biliary tract cancers (GBTC) observed in Western populations may be related to obesogenic lifestyle factors and their metabolic consequences, such as metabolic syndrome (MetS), inflammation and altered production of bile acids (BA). Such lifestyle behaviours may induce changes in the gut microflora which in turn affect BA profiles, increasing their carcinogenicity. Some elevated BA may be oncogenic in exposed liver, bile ducts and gall bladder. Vertical sleeve gastrectomy may change bile acid composition. The aims of this study are: whether specific presurgical bila acid profiles are predictive of efficacy of vertical sleeve gastrectomy, reflective of liver function and metabolic dysfunction; whether specific presurgical bile acid profiles are predictive of the efficacy of sleeve gastrectomy

Apathy in Tourette Syndrome and Changes in Quality of Life

Tourette SyndromeApathy

Tourette syndrome is a complex neuropsychological disorder with both motor and vocal tics associated with multiple psychological co-morbidities. Apathy has not been widely studied in patients with Tourette syndrome. Apathy can result in decrease in self-care and disease control. In this study investigators will compare the occurrence of apathy in the adolescent Tourette syndrome population (at the UF center for movement disorders and Neurorestoration) to an age and gender matched control population. Investigators will also assess the role of commonly used medications in the Tourette population (neuroleptics and selective serotonin receptor inhibitors) in the occurrence of apathy.

Factors Affecting Dissatisfaction to Treatments in Patients With Chronic Constipation and IBS With...

ConstipationIrritable Bowel Syndrome

Chronic constipation (CC) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation (IBS-C) are two conditions difficult to manage because factors affecting dissatisfaction to treatments are misleading. This observational multicentric national study is aimed to assess which factors are related with a clinically significant improvement in patients with CC and IBS-C. Patients will be evaluated at baseline and after every one-month "standard of care" therapy with standardised questionnaires to assess bowel habit and satisfaction to treatments. Somatisation, quality of life, colonic transit time and resting anal pressure will be assessed at baseline.

Stratification of the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome - A Second Phase Study

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Current definitions of the Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) could be adequate for epidemiological studies but are not adequate for inclusion of patients into therapeutic clinical trials. It is a matter of debate whether the assessment of hypoxemia at ARDS onset is appropriate for stratifying lung severity and risk of death in ARDS patients. The investigators will perform an observational, non-interventional, multicenter, prospective audit in a network of intensive care units in Spain for evaluating the severity and risk of death based on the assessment of respiratory and ventilatory function at 24 hours after ARDS diagnosis under standardized ventilatory conditions. This study is the confirmatory phase of the study NCT02288949.

The Effect of Coleus Forskohlii Extract on the Risk Factors of Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic SyndromeObesity

Coleus forskohlii extract contains the bioactive compound, forskolin. Preliminary studies have shown that forskolin can increase fat metabolism thus reduce fat accumulation in both animals and humans. It has been suggested that forskolin may also suppress appetite thus reduce energy intake and results in weight loss. This study will evaluate the appetite suppressant properties of Coleus forskohlii extract. In addition the effect on central obesity and risk factors of metabolic syndrome will also be investigated.

Health Outcomes of Recently Diagnosed Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)/Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia...

Myelodysplastic SyndromeLeukemia2 more

Post-authorisation observational study to assess the evolution in normal clinical practice of patients recently diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML), depending on the moment when active treatment is initiated. Subjects will be recruited from approximately 50 haematology sites in Spain.
