Body Perception and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome
Complex Regional Pain SyndromesIn CRPS, perturbation of body image and pseudo-neglect syndrome of the body part affected are frequently found. Pain and sensory perturbation seems to modify the way patients perceived their body part affected. Does a local body image perturbation can affect the balanced of the global self-awareness?
Peak Systolic Global Longitudinal Strain and Low Cardiac Output Syndrome After Cardiac Surgery
Low Cardiac Output Syndrome After Adult Cardiac SurgeryThis is a retrospective observational study to assess the relationship between peak systolic global longitudinal strain measured on pre-cardiopulmonary bypass trans-esophageal echo images predicts post-operative low cardiac output syndrome defined as the need for an inotropic support during 24 hours or longer.
ASSESSING EMERALD AND MC10 BIOSTAMP nPOINT BIOSENSORS FOR RETT SYNDROME
Rett SyndromeThis is a pilot study of the Emerald device in Rett syndrome patients diagnosed with a confirmed MECP2 mutation. MC10 BioStamp nPoint patches will also be assessed with the goal to develop Rett-specific breathing algorithms
Cubital Tunnel Syndrome and Diffusion MRI: A Proof of Concept Study
Cubital Tunnel SyndromeCubital Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) results from compression of the ulnar nerve at the elbow (colloquially termed the "funny bone"). CTS affects up to 6% of the population and 6000 patients undergo surgery annually in the UK. Surgery is the only proven treatment for CTS, although up to 30% of patients do not improve. Therefore, there is a pressing need to develop a reliable test to diagnose CTS to improve the selection of patients for surgery. New techniques in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) allow the visualisation of nerve structure and function. Diffusion tensor MRI, also known as diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), can diagnose CTS with superior diagnostic accuracy and could enable the reliable diagnostic of CTS, improving the selection of patients for surgery. The study will include healthy volunteers (to refine the scanning sequence) and patients undergoing surgery for CTS. Patients will be scanned preoperatively and postoperatively using cutting-edge diffusion MRI techniques. The primary outcome will be change in the MRI-derived diffusion metrics following surgery. Secondary outcomes will consider how MRI relates to patient-reported outcomes and conventional clinical tests (ultrasound and nerve conduction studies). Leeds is the ideal location for this research because a) Leeds institutions are the most highly cited organisations in musculoskeletal research, b) Leeds houses the National Centre for Hyperpolarized MRI and a state-of-the-art MRI scanner, and c) Leeds is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for complex upper limb surgery.
Expanded Access Program With Pevonedistat (Given With Azacitidine) for Adults With Higher-risk Myelodysplastic...
Myelodysplastic SyndromesParticipants in the expanded access program are adults with higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes who have no other treatment options available. The main aim of this program is to allow participants to have access to pevonedistat before FDA approval. This program will take place in the United States.
Impact of OCT Imaging on Decision Making During PCI in ACS Patients
Acute Coronary SyndromeOptical coherence tomography (OCT) provides valuable information to guide percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) regarding lesion preparation, stent sizing, and stent optimization.
Influence of Stress and Psychiatric Symptoms on Children With Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome in AdolescenceTourette Syndrome1 moreInvestigators propose a cross-sectional, observational pilot study to examine the contribution of stress, family dynamics, and peer relationships to quality of life (QOL) in adolescents with Tourette syndrome (TS). Investigators will recruit two groups of participants: 1) adolescents aged 13-17 years of age with TS and 2) adolescents aged 13-17 without any neurologic or psychiatric diagnoses. Participants and one of their parents/caregivers will complete a series of questionnaires screening for and quantifying the extent of stress and mental health symptoms, including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Participants will also complete instruments characterizing family interactions and peer relationships. Adolescents with TS will also undergo a semi-structured interview assessing the severity of their tics.
Prone Position Improves End-Expiratory Lung Volumes in COVID-19 Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome...
Acute Respiratory Distress SyndromeCoronavirus2 moreCovid-19 associated Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) may present with profound hypoxemia not fully explained with pulmonary infiltrates. Accordingly, how prone positioning improves oxygenation in these patients is not fully known. The investigators conducted a study among patients with severe Covid-19 ARDS receiving prone position for at least 16 hours. End Expiratory Lung Volume (EELV) was measured with Nitrogen wash-in/wash-out technique before (Supine Position 1- SP1), during (Prone Position - PP) and after (Supine Position 2 - SP2) prone positioning.
Effectiveness of Major Ozone Autohemotherapy in the Treatment of Fibromyalgia Syndrome
Fibromyalgia SyndromePatients who were admitted to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) outpatient clinic of our hospital between January 2017 and December 2020 and were treated with Major ozone autohemotherapy with a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia syndrome will include to the study. Visual anolog scale (VAS), Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnare (FIQ) and Short Form Health Survey-36 (SF-36) scores of the patients before and after treatment were recorded. Statistical analysis of these outcome scores will be made.
Effectiveness of Different Methods in Acute Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Myofacial Pain SyndromesThis study is a randomized controlled study. A total of 75 patients between the ages of 20-50 who have a diagnosis of acute myofacial pain syndrome in the trapezius muscle and have pain for a maximum of 5 days were included in the study. Patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. Group 1 patients received kinesio tape method (25 patients), group 2 patients received trigger point injection method (25 patients), and group 3 patients received neural therapy injection method (25 patients). A 10-15 cm sized I band was applied to the trapezius muscles of the first group patients with the patient's neck in lateral flexion. Then, while the patient's neck is flexed, a Y-shaped 15-20 cm tape will be affixed between C1-7 with the arms of the Y up, and I tape of 5-10 cm is attached on the arms. In group 2 patients, 1 cc lidocaine diluted with 4 cc saline (SF) was applied to the trigger points palpated manually in the trapezius muscles. After the trigger point was squeezed between the thumb and index finger, a few cc of local anesthetic mixture was applied into the trigger point with the injector and exited. In the 3rd group patients, a few cc local anesthetic mixture will be applied intradermally over the trigger point without entering into the trigger points palpated manually in the trapezius muscles. Patients were checked 72 hours and 1 week after the first applications. The pain at rest and during movement of the patients in all 3 groups were evaluated with a visual analog scale (VAS 10 cm). The number of trigger points was determined by the physician by hand palpation. Pressure pain threshold was evaluated with the algometer device. Disability assessment of the patients was made using the neck pain disability index. evaluations were made at the beginning of treatment, 72 hours after and 1 week after treatment.
