Clinical Study on Implicit Learning, Comorbidity and Stress Vulnerability in Chronic Functional...
FibromyalgiaIrritable Bowel SyndromeThe project investigates on the role of pain avoidance, comorbidity and stress response for the development of chronic somatic and visceral pain. We, the researchers at University Hospital Mannheim, assume that implicit operant learning of pain sensitization is a central mechanism of the process of pain becoming chronic, which is augmented by fear and by avoidance behaviour. Somatic and psychological comorbidity as well as stress factors are further promoting factors in chronic pain development.

Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in Patients With Intermittent Claudication
Intermittent ClaudicationMetabolic Syndrome XMetabolic syndrome, a group of cardiovascular risk factors related to insulin resistance, is a major determinant of cardiovascular mortality. Intermittent claudication is a symptom of an early stage of atherosclerosis. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome in patients with intermittent claudication and its correlation with age, gender, localization of arterial obstruction and association with coronary artery disease.
Sensory Processing in Subjects With Painful Bladder Syndrome
Painful Bladder SyndromeThe purpose of this study is to determine if clinically relevant subsets exist in patients meeting the diagnosis of Painful Bladder Syndrome (PBS). Subsets suggest differential responses to treatments and if verified, this will be important for the stratification of patients in clinical studies related to PBS.
