Background Chronic temporomandibular disorders (TMD) pain is an undertreated condition in Sweden despite the fact that national guidelines includes effective treatment options. These guidelines recommend multimodal treatment with a behavioral approach. Internet-based intervention is an appealing modality for multimodal TMD treatment, enabling more patients to be reached and treated. Objective To investigate the treatment effect of an internet-based multimodal pain program (iMPP) on chronic TMD pain. As the study progressed, it also became a measure to evaluate the feasibility of running a larger randomized controlled trial.

This study evaluates the addition of hyaluronic acid to temporomandibular joint arthroscopy in the treatment of internal derangements in adults. A participants group will receive temporomandibular joint arthroscopy plus hyaluronic acid, while the other group will receive temporomandibular joint arthroscopy. Hypothesis: hyaluronic acid as an adjunct in temporomandibular joint arthroscopic surgery provides additional benefits in clinical and radiological outcomes in temporomandibular joint internal derangements.

Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) represent a multifactorial pathological group that gives rise to a varied and complex symptomatology that includes decreased jaw movement, muscle and joint pain, joint crepitation and limitation or functional deviation of the jaw opening. All this is sometimes accompanied by headache and other painful symptoms in the neck musculature, incapacitating for many patients and at considerable public health expense. Intramuscular and intra-articular injections of botulinum toxin are a simple treatment that has proven to be effective in the treatment of the painful symptoms of these disorders, being a therapeutic option in situations of failure of conventional treatments, without presenting adverse effects. Our study presents the preliminary results of twenty patients treated with this therapy

Background: An innovative, non-invasive, and reversible Intra Auricular Device (IAD) has recently been introduced to treat temporomandibular muscle and joint disorders.Aim: To evaluate the effects of the IAD on pain, psychosocial domain and Pressure Pain Threshold (PPT) of masticatory muscles in patients with TMD pain. Methods: Ten subjects with TMD pain and with pain intensity higher than 30 mm on a VAS scale were included in the study. Patients received the IAD and counselling. Assessments included questionnaires of the DC/TMD Axis II questionnaires (Characteristic Pain Index, Interference, Jaw Functional Limitation Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire 9, Patient Health Questionnaire 15, Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale, Oral Behavior Checklist and Oral Health Impact Profile-22, Axis I clinical examination and PPTs at baseline (T0), after one month (T1), three months (T2) and six months (T3) from the first use of the device. PPTs were measured at anterior temporalis muscles, masseter muscles and right thenar as a control site.The Shapiro-Wilk test was used for the normal distribution of data. The difference among the longitudinal timepoints for variable was analysed with ANOVA. Statistical significance was accepted at p < 0.05.
