It has been shown that gut microbiome and microbiome metabolism can regulate or control the initiation of a cancer process. To the best of the investigators knowledge, no study has directly shown the relationship of the thyroid microcarcinoma to the human microbiome. In this work, the aim is to detect the microbiome in peripheral blood in a patient with a thyroid gland carcinoma, and to correlate it with the disease, compared to the microbiome of a group of patients who did not find another thyroid gland carcinoma

The aim of this study is to evaluate the prognostic value of postoperative99mTc-pertechnetate scanning in patients with DTC.

Previous studies have shown an increase in the prevalence of urgency and urgency incontinence in women with diabetes. Regarding the condition urinary stress incontinence, the literature is diverted. The purpose of the PhD project is investigate the prevalence of urinary incontinence and the association to diabetes and thyroid disease in a mainly rual population in Lolland and Falster. Further to investigate if there is any difference in the bladder function in incontinent women with and without diabetes. Psychometric validation of the questionnaire used to assess urinary incontinence was also performed.

BRAFV600E is the most frequent oncogene in Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). It correlates with greater extension, lymph node metastasis, and advanced stage. However, the prognostic value of BRAFV600Eis weak and the search of this mutation is not recommended in clinical management of thyroid cancer. PTC are characterized by intratumor heterogeneity with wild-type and BRAFV600E tumoral cells. In a previous study, the BRAFV600E/BRAFwild-type ratio correlated with patient age, tumor volume, lymph node metastasis and with worst disease outcome. While the existence of intratumor heterogeneity in PTC is supported by many evidences, its extension, biological significance and clinical utility is questioned and must be further investigated. Primary endpoint of the study is to determine the relationship between the percentage of BRAFV600E alleles and outcome in PTC patients. Secondary endpoints are to determine the mean and median BRAFV600E/BRAFwild-type allele ratio in heterogeneous tumors; determine the relationship between the percentage of BRAFV600E alleles and clinicopathological features. The study protocol entails the assessment by digital-droplet PCR the BRAFV600E/BRAFwild-type allele ratio in a series of PTC and its correlation with clinicopathology features and outcome.

The benefits of prophylactic central neck dissection (pCND) remain controversial in clinically node-negative (cN0) papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). This study main goal is to investigate benefits of prophylactic central neck dissection in clinically node-negative papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Thyroid hormone is critical for normal neurocognitive development in young infants, and even transient hypothyroidism can cause adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. In a population of infants with CHD who already bear a high risk of long-term developmental delay, detection of hypothyroidism, even of a transient nature, may be even more consequential, and routine periodic monitoring of thyroid function may be necessary to reduce the risk of neurodevelopmental disabilities

The purpose of this stage of study is to establish discriminant among healthy tissue, benign and malignant thyroid and breast tumors by fourier transform infrared spectrometry variables.
