A Prospective Study to Assess the Risk Factors That Contribute to Thrombosis in Patients With Lower...

ThrombosesVenous1 more

This study is aimed at identifying patients at high risk for Venous Thrombo-Embolism (VTE) (clots in the veins of legs or clots in the lungs) who have lower limb injuries treated with immobilisation of the lower limb. The study aims to identify high risk patients, who may benefit from thromboprophylaxis (blood thinning medication) to prevent such clots forming. To do this we will collect data on 3500 patients who present with lower limb injury requiring immobilisation to the Emergency Departments of the six hospitals named. We will assess their risk factors for venous thrombosis at the time of presentation and contact them at twelve weeks to assess if they have had a VTE in order to develop a risk scoring system which can be used to predict the likelihood of VTE development This risk scoring system can then be used to identify high risk patients who may benefit from thromboprophylaxis.

Dynamic Vision Testing and Concussion Management

Head InjurySport Injury2 more

The purpose of this study is to determine the value of including dynamic vision testing into California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Athletics' established concussion protocol. The study's hypotheses are 1) dynamic vision testing will reveal vision impairments right after a person sustains a concussion, 2) these impairments may still be present upon clearance to return to play.

ICG Fluorescence Imaging in Open Fracture Trauma Patients

Trauma Injury

This is a prospective observational study that will evaluate the association between bone and tissue perfusion, as measured by indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging, and complications, in an effort to develop ICG fluorescence imaging as a diagnostic tool to quantitatively guide operative debridement.

Prevention of Groin Injuries in Rink Hockey

Groin InjuryGroin Strain1 more

Rink hockey teams from senior category (adults) will be recruited to implement a groin injury prevention program consisting on the Copenhagen Adduction Exercise (CAE) throughout the regular season, 0 times, once or twice per week (september 2023-march 2024) Weekly team exposure to training sessions and games will be collected as well as cases of groin problems in the entire population When the season ends, the number of groin problems will be compared between teams that used the prevention program once a week against twice a week or no sessions a week.

Cognitive Function Assessment in Patients With Focal Brain Injury

Focal Brain InjuryCognition

This research relates to the study of cognitive deficits related to various focal brain lesions and their localizations in the brain. it involves building a large database of behavioural responses measured during the performance of cognitive tasks in patients with focal brain injury, to allow to better understand function of brain.

Follow-up of mTBI Patients Discharged From the ED Using Standard Clinical Triage Including BrainScope...

TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)Concussion3 more

The purpose of the study is to validate the clinical outcome in patients with closed head injuries (GCS 14-15, ages 18-85) who are being evaluated for head trauma, integrating the BrainScope One structural injury classifier (SIC) algorithm, with focus on SIC negative classification. In addition, to assess functional impairment (concussion) in these patients, results from Brain Function Index (BFI) or Concussion Index (CI) algorithms will be used for analysis.

Platelet Inhibitor Treated Patients With Head Injury Trauma Meeting NICE Criteria : is the CT-scan...

Head Injury TraumaEmergencies

At the emergencies rooms, patients with head trauma meeting one of the NICE criteria, which include antiplatelet inhibitors treatment, are considered as patients with a risk of cerebral haemorrage and are taken systematically for a CT-scanner. However, there are more and more antiplatelet inhibitor's patient with minor head injury traumas seen at the emergencies room and the efficiency of this NICE criteria is controversial on litterature. This study aims to determine that the absence of no other NICE criteria than antiplatelet inhibitors is a sufficient condition to eliminate a cerebral haemorrhage for patients with head injury traumas, and conversely, that antiplatelet inhibitors treatment would not be by itself an indication for a CT-scanner.

Predictive Nomogram for Postoperative Acute Kidney Injury in Older Patients Undergoing Noncardiac...

Postoperative Acute Kidney Injury

Postoperative acute kidney injury is associated increased risk of morbidity and mortality. Older patients are at high risk of developing postoperative acute kidney injury. However, the incidence and associations of postoperative acute kidney injury in older patients are not well understood. This study aims to develop and validate a predictive nomogram for postoperative acute kidney injury in older patients undergoing noncardiac surgery.
