Real-World Experience of Athletes Treated With SAM

PainChronic8 more

Low-intensity continuous ultrasound (LICUS) is an FDA-approved bio regenerative technology, applied with a wearable device (SAM, Zetroz Systems LLC) for daily use. The treatment provides long-duration ultrasound for approximately four hours. This report included a retrospective convenience sample of 6 athletes from one sports medicine and rehabilitation facility. The objective of this report is to examine the real-world outcome data on symptoms improvement and return to function using Sam. It was hypothesized that LICUS stimulation, in conjunction with traditional therapies, will accelerate the healing process of musculoskeletal tissue leading to a reduction in pain, increase functionality, and a higher probability of returning to work and sports-related activities. The sample included athletes with sports-related musculoskeletal injuries. Demographics, injury history, treatment history, and clinical outcomes data were retrospectively collected for athletes who were treated with SAM in conjunction with traditional therapies. Clinical results showed a benefit from the treatment with a decrease in pain (100%), and 3 out of 6 athletes were able to return to work or sports (50%). Overall the study shows that Sam accelerates the healing of soft tissue leading to a decrease in both acute and chronic pain.

Dynamic Balance, Flexibility and Agility as Predictors of Lower-extremity Injury in Football Players...

LOWER-LIMB INJURY

This research investigates the reliability of tests to assess injury risk. Participants will be tested at the beginning of the survey and will be monitored for over 5 months. Participants will take 4 types of tests related to dynamic balance, flexibility, and agility. Subsequently, the relationship between test results and the incidence of injury in the subjects will be analyzed. If the tests prove reliable, they will be included in standard tests to assess the risk of injury to football players.

Tailored Hydration Based on Bioimpedance Analysis for Prevention of Contrast Induced Acute Kidney...

Acute Kidney Injury

The aim of this study was to evaluate, in patients with "normal fluid status" assessed by the bio-impedance analysis, whether two different protocol of IV isotonic saline infusion are associated with different volume expansion and differing risks for Contrast Induced Acute Kidney Injury in patients undergoing coronary angiographic procedure.

Meta-Analysis Accidental Hypothermia in Trauma

HypothermiaTrauma3 more

This is a systematic literature review and meta-analysis investigating the effect of accidental hypothermia on mortality in trauma patients overall and patients with TBI specifically. Literature search will be performed using the Ovid Medline/PubMed database. Studies comparing the effect of hypothermia vs. normothermia at hospital admission on in-hospital mortality will be included in meta-analysis.

The Effectiveness of a Mechanical Debridement Instrument in Reducing Bioburden in Chronic Wounds...

Acute WoundsChronic Wounds

This prospective clinical trial will compare the bacterial burden in the wound bed and on the periwound skin before and after mechanical debridement with EZ Debride using fluorescence imaging. After consenting, the ulcers of eligible subjects are measured, photographed and undergo the MolecuLight imaging procedure (MLiX). The ulcer is mechanically debridement with the EZ Debride device after which a second MLiX procedure is performed. The investigator will then compare the two images.

Myocardial Injury and Major Adverse Outcomes in Patients With COVID-19

COVID-19Myocardial Reperfusion Injury1 more

The study will analyze the incidence, clinical outcomes and predictors of myocardial injury in a large patient population with COVID-19 treated in Mount Sinai Hospital (MSH) system. In addition, the study team will explore the association between high-sensitivity troponin I (TnI) levels and clinical characteristics, biomarkers, cardiac tests data and treatment approaches to uncover the potential mechanisms responsible for COVID-19 induced myocardial injury.

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (PREVENA) Versus Standard Dressings for Incision Management After...

Wound Complication

This study is a multicentre, partially-blinded randomised controlled trial, with site stratified block randomisation and partial blinding of outcome assessments. Patients undergoing a renal transplant will be allocated to one of two treatment arms, where either a Prevena device of appropriate size or standard dressing is applied to the closed incision. In the case that a patient requires bilateral incisions, both incisions will be allocated to the same treatment arm and counted as a single incision. Primary: The primary objective of this study is to determine if the Prevena Incision Management System reduces wound complications at the surgical site following renal transplant, when compared to standard dressings. Secondary: Secondary objectives of this study include identification of risk factors for wound complications at the surgical site, as well as re-operation, prolonged hospital stay, allograft survival, delayed graft function. This study will also assess pain, scar healing and quality of life in each treatment arm, and aim to complete a cost-benefit analysis of the Prevena device in renal transplantation.

Feasibility of Electro Auricular Acupuncture for Analgesia After ACL Surgery: The Feasibility of...

ACLACL Injury3 more

Acupuncture research in regards to PONV has been fairly well established, however, studies about perioperative pain control and acupuncture are a little more murky. In 2008, a meta analysis looked at randomized controlled studies and found that while acupuncture was shown to decrease pain, there were limitations including credible placebo or sham intervention, and thus, blinding. The main purpose of this feasibility trial is to determine whether or not adequate blinding is possible in the intraoperative setting with the patient sedated.

A Brief Cognitive Intervention After Intrusive Memories of Trauma With Young Refugees: An Extension...

Intrusive Memories of TraumaSymptom of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (Criterion B1)

This research study is designed to investigate the use of a simple cognitive task (a memory cue and 10 minute time gap, followed by playing the computer game "Tetris") for decreasing the number of intrusive memories of trauma among young refugees and asylum seekers. The design is a single case experimental AB design with optional replication (ABAB). Participants will aim to complete a no-intervention phase ('A': baseline phase) of one week followed by a one-week intervention phase ('B'), including a one-session intervention with a researcher comprising the simple cognitive task, followed by instructions to continue to use the technique self-guided in the subsequent week. Follow ups are conducted after each week to monitor the occurrence of intrusive memories of trauma in a pen-and-paper diary. It is predicted that participants will report fewer intrusive memories during the intervention phase than during the preceding baseline phase.
