Exercise for People With Peripheral Neuropathy and Diabetic Foot Ulcers - a Case Series on Feasibility...
Diabetes MellitusFoot UlcerPhysical training is one of the cornerstones within the treatment of diabetes, as well as medicine and diet modification, and the effect is well documented. Nevertheless people with diabetes with foot ulcers are urged to lessen their level of physical activity, to reduce pressure on footbed and thereby achieve fastest possible healing. Purpose: The primarily purpose is to investigate the feasibility of implementing safe, progressive resistance training, combined with exercises for ankle mobility and aerobic training, for people with diabetes and foot ulcers, without compromising the ulcer. The secondarily purpose is to investigate whether this form of training is effective on improving muscle strength, as to if limitations in everyday life diminishes. The hypothesis is, that it is possible to implement a structured exercise program without compromising the diabetic ulcer.
Plasma and Scarring of Diabetic Ulcers
Chronic Skin UlcerDiabetic Foot1 moreDiabetic foot is defined by World Health Organization as a syndrome in which the presence of neuropathy, ischemia and infection cause tissue damage or ulcers from minor trauma. This condition can be controlled in its early stages with conservative treatment, which is effective in preventing infections and amputations. However, even with the new knowledge acquired and the development of new therapies, the specialist often faces wounds that do not improve despite the proper treatment, so therapies have been sought to help the healing of these Ulcers. Growing evidence suggests that healing of chronic diabetic foot ulcers depends on growth factors and that the therapeutic use of these in wounds has the potential to accelerate their healing in conjunction with wound care Conventional. This study evaluates the effect of plasma rich in autologous growth factors on healing chronic ulcers of diabetic origin. This is a randomized clinical trial that evaluates two study groups. Control group in which advanced weekly healing will be performed while the post-advanced healing study group will be performed the intradermal application of plasma rich in growth factors. These manoeuvres will be performed once a week for four weeks and at the end of the study the results in both groups will be checked. Both groups will also evaluate, frequency and intensity of pain, quality of life, histological changes in ulcers and metabolic evaluation
The Use of a Fully Automated Pulsating Support System (CuroCell® A4 CX20) in Pressure Ulcer Prevention...
Pressure UlcerPressure Injury3 morePressure Ulcers are a serious and common problem for residents admitted to long-term care facilities and community care patients. They represent a major burden to patients, carers and the Healthcare system, affecting approximately 1 in 20 community patients. International guidelines recommend the use of pressure redistribution support surfaces, systematic patient repositioning and preventive skin care to prevent pressure ulcers. It has been acknowledged that a significant proportion of pressure ulcers are avoidable. The prevalence of pressure ulcers is 1 of the 4 common harms recorded in the UK NHS Safety Thermometer, a local improvement tool for measuring, monitoring and analyzing patient harms across a range of settings, including nursing homes, community nursing and hospitals on a monthly basis.
The Effects of Moxibustion on Ulcerative Colitis
Ulcerative ColitisTo investigate the mechanism and effects of moxibustion on patients with ulcerative colitis.
Monitoring Movement for Pressure Ulcer Prevention
Pressure UlcerThe goal of this work is to develop and test an automated movement detection monitoring tool that could lead to reduced burden on clinicians and in-turn reduce pressure ulcer incidence rates. Ten healthy participants will perform video-recorded bed movements while weight distribution and interface pressures at bony prominences on the pelvis are recorded.
Remote Ischemic Conditioning in Patients With Ulcerative Colitis
ColitisUlcerative4 moreUlcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). At the time of diagnosis it is not possible to predict the course of the disease, which can range from a few flares in a lifetime to uncontrollable disease leading to hospitalization, surgery and stoma. There is a continuous need to improve treatment as well as diagnostic and prognostic tools. This study evaluates the clinical efficacy, tolerability and feasibility of remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) in patients with moderate active ulcerative colitis (UC). The investigators hypothesize that RIC beyond the well known effect on reperfusion tissue damage has a clinically relevant anti-inflammatory effect in UC. RIC constitute a repeated brief and non-harmful suppression of blood circulation in a limb. The mechanism of action of RIC is likely to involve suppressed inflammation and cell death. Our study is a randomized clinical controlled study including 38 patients. Patients will receive RIC or sham for 10 consecutive days. The effect of RIC on active UC is evaluated by changes patient's symptoms, endoscopy findings, and various markers in the blood, faeces and the intestinal wall.
Proof-of-concept Study for Bioimpedance Based Monitoring of Venous Ulcers During Galvanic Stimulation...
Patients With Lower Extremity Venous UlcersPatients With Localized EdemaThe research group will choose no more than 10 patients having a lower extremity venous ulcer(s), less than 5cm diameter and with an estimated one month time of re-epithelization. In this study the investigators will follow and monitor the healing of the wound and effectiveness of compression therapy using bioimpedance measurement based method. The investigators will also treat the wounds using periodical low intensity direct current (LIDC) stimulation therapy. Bioimpedance monitoring and wound stimulation functionalities are provided by a purpose built wound patch. The patch features a printed 4 x 4 stimulation and impedance measurement electrodes array (in contact with wound surface) surrounded by a 4-part dual purpose counter and impedance reference electrodes (in contact with the intact skin surrounding the wound area).
