Digital Holographic Microscopy: Evaluation of Histological Disease Activity in Patients With Ulcerative...
ColitisUlcerative1 moreUlcerative colitis (UC) belongs to the group of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and is characterized by a chronic relapsing disease course. As uncontrolled intestinal inflammation can lead to severe disease complications, treatment of UC has evolved from sole treatment of symptoms up to histological remission which is marked by the absence of histological inflammation. To correctly assess and quantify the degree of histological inflammation in IBD patients remains difficult. Digital holographic microscopy (DHM) is a new imaging technique belonging to quantitative phase contrast imaging. It is based on the detection of optical path-length delays in a stain-free manner, thereby providing a refractive index which directly correlates to tissue density. This study aims to evaluate the role of DHM for quantifying the degree of histological inflammation in endoscopically acquired biopsies of UC patients in a prospective clinical trial. From 28 UC patients, the investigators will obtain endoscopically acquired colonic biopsies. The investigators will assess the degree of inflammation in these biopsies using DHM and in addition to this an experienced histopathologist will determine the degree of inflammation in these biopsies using a histological scoring system (Nancy-Score = goldstandard). Finally, the investigators will directly correlate the results from DHM analysis to the histological analysis using the Nancy-Score.

Indigo Carmine Staining and Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) of Colonic Mucosa for Detection of Dysplasia...
Ulcerative ColitisA prospective, randomized trial to determine indigo carmine dye spraying and narrow band imaging (NBI) of colonic mucosa to detect dysplasia in ulcerative colitis (UC). Confocal laser microscopy may be beneficial in the further assessment of abnormalities identified by these methods.

Compare Conventional Colonosocpy to Endoscopic AFI, NBI for Dysplasia Detection for Ulcerative Colitis...
ColitisUlcerative2 moreThis study is being done to: To attempt to increase the detection of precancerous colon tissue in patients with chronic ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis; To determine if an investigational scope that can look at the lining of the colon in different ways will help the doctor identify abnormal tissue in patients with chronic ulcerative colitis and concurrent primary sclerosing cholangitis; and To determine if this investigational scope can accurately detect precancerous or cancerous tissue in patients with chronic ulcerative colitis that are known to have had cancerous or precancerous tissue in the past.

Hyperspectral Imaging to Assess and Predict Diabetic Foot Ulcers
Diabetic Foot UlcersThis study is designed to test a prototype imaging instrument that relies on Medical HyperSpectral Imaging (MHSI) technology for the assessment and prediction of diabetic foot ulceration and wound healing. The imaging system utilizes the biomarkers of oxyhemoglobin (oxyHb) and deoxyhemoglobin (deoxyHb), in the upper layers of skin on the foot as: a metric for assessing wound healing, a reflection of microvascular disease, and determining tissue at risk for forming new ulcers. MHSI results will also be compare with ABI and TcPO2 measurements.

Endoscopic Ultrasound Determines Disease Activity in Crohn's Disease And Ulcerative Colitis
Crohn DiseaseUlcerative ColitisAlthough Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are the main subtypes of inflammatory bowel disease, they differ substantially in disease behavior, prognosis, and treatment paradigm. However, making an accurate diagnosis of Crohn's disease versus ulcerative colitis and assessing disease activity beyond the level of mucosal inflammation remain challenging with contemporary modalities. The objective of the study is to determine the novel role of endoscopic ultrasound in A) differentiating Crohn's colitis versus ulcerative colitis and B) monitoring disease activity in these patients.

Treatment of Foot and Leg Ulcers Using a Laser
Diabetic Foot UlcerThe investigators plan to do a retrospective chart review on patients who underwent laser treatment for their foot ulcer at the UT Southwestern wound clinic.

TEWL Biomarker Study for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Recurrence
DiabetesDiabetic Foot3 moreThis is a multicenter study of patients with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) to develop and validate potential tissue-based biomarkers that predict DFU wound recurrence. Trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) will be measured on the closed wound site and a location similar to the wound site (reference site). Participants will be enrolled within two weeks after closure of their DFU. Complete wound healing will be verified at a second visit two weeks later and this visit will start the 16 week timeline where participants will be followed weekly by phone until the earliest of DFU wound recurrence or 16 weeks. Participants who experience a DFU wound recurrence and a subset of participants who do not experience a DFU wound recurrence by week 16 will be asked to attend one final visit.

New Multiplex Real-time PCR for Genital Ulcer Disease
Genital Ulcer Disease (GUD)(i) To compare a new diagnostic PCR with established diagnostic procedures for T. pallidum (serology, dark field microscopy), H. ducreyi (cultivation), HSV types 1 and 2 (cultivation, PCR). (ii) To assess the frequency of infections with T. pallidum, H. ducreyi and HSV types 1 and 2 in patients with genital, anal and oropharyngeal ulcers by a new PCR.

Induction and Maintenance of Remission With Pentasa as Ulcerative Colitis Treatment
Ulcerative ColitisFor both induction of remission and in maintenance of remission, different doses and treatment durations are used in practice. The aim of this study is to assess how mesalazine is used in clinical practice, at which doses and for how long and how these differences impact the patient disease state and work productivity.

Evaluation of Integra® Artificial Dermis for the Treatment of Leg Ulcers
Lower Limb UlcerThe aim of this prospective study is to assess the utility of treatment of leg ulcers using a skin substitute, Integra®, assessing the quality of wound skin healing and transcutaneous oxygen pressure in the distal region of the wound. This is a multi-centre study on 60 patients who have a lower limb ulcer.
