Biopsychosocial regressions and various health problems are seen in the elderly, and their care and follow-up are mostly carried out in nursing homes. It is stated that the elderly individuals living in the nursing home see the institution related to the institution they stay as an area for making friends and socializing with their peers, but the elderly individuals staying in these institutions experience various limitations. If the elderly individual's assessment of his life is positive, self-compassion is achieved, if it is negative, he falls into despair, depressive mood and loneliness symptoms can be seen. Various psychosocial interventions are recommended for elderly individuals within the scope of protecting and improving mental health. One of the interventions that can be done is animal-supported activities that provide human-animal interaction. Studies conducted in our country with animal-supported activities are very limited, and they have mostly been studied with children. In the international literature, although there are various studies within the scope of animal-supported activities, the number of studies evaluating the effect of interaction with fish is very limited, and studies with fish interaction have been recommended by various researchers. This study is unique because it is the first study in our country to evaluate the effects of animal-assisted practices on the psychosocial health of elderly individuals living in nursing homes.

Targeting Specific Brain Networks to Treat Specific Symptoms in Depression

This proposal will reveal network mechanisms of the therapeutic effects of rTMS by investigating how stimulating each network specifically changes network connectivity and behavior. This will be done in a highly individualized manner in depressed and healthy patients, leading to more effective and more individualized treatments for depression.

Anxiety DisordersDepressive DisorderRecent research has underlined that mental health of people with depression and anxiety has deteriorated over the last decades in Denmark as well as internationally, and has reached a degree where it is perceived as a global health challenge. By now, depression is the most common reason for early retirement on health grounds in Denmark. Early intervention in relation to patients with depression and anxiety is essential, as research further shows that many young people with mental health difficulties drop out of education and work. The overall purpose is to develop a shared care intervention in co-production with users, and to increase their recovery by strengthening the support and treatment using a newly developed shared care model. The study is designed as a non-randomized intervention study with a control group. Comparative analyzes will be performed with pre- and post-assessments. Patients will be recruited between August 2022 and February 2023. The patients are referred to outpatient clinics based on their home address. The two outpatient clinics should be comparable in terms of patients' diagnoses and staffing. ward. Mental health status and well-being are the primary outcomes. Self-reported questionnaires will be administered to both groups before and after the intervention. The study will be approved by the Research Ethical Committee of University of Southern Denmark and Region Zealand. The study findings will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences.

Perinatal DepressionIn December 2019, infection with a novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 emerged in China and has since spread throughout the world. Forms of varying severity of COVID-19, a disease induced by this emerging virus, have been described in pregnant women. In addition to the direct effects of the virus on the pregnant woman and the fetus, the pandemic context itself is likely to act as a psychological risk factor and to alter the protective factors for mental disorders. This pandemic context is in itself anxiety-provoking, even traumatogenic, particularly because of the potentially lethal infectious risk that it carries, all the more so in psychologically vulnerable populations. In addition to the fear of viral contamination, in the perinatal period, the fear of childbirth also includes a more or less important part of anxiety-producing uncertainty. This addition of stress factors is likely to increase the prevalence of perinatal anxiety disorders, particularly psychotraumatic experiences of childbirth and peri-traumatic dissociative states. Health and social measures, such as confinement, restriction of access of accompanying persons to maternity services, or contagious isolation of mothers suspected of being infected or infected, which may furthermore impose a mother-infant separation, are also likely to have psychopathological consequences. Studies specifically concerning the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic context have been published. Thus, the PsyCOVIDUM project to estimate the prevalence of depressive symptoms in the immediate postpartum period just after delivery at different times during the pandemic episode was initiated in the three FHU PREMA maternity hospitals. This study aims at the constitution of a DNA and serum biobank in voluntary women presenting or not a depression with an antenatal onset identified at the maternity hospital. This collection would eventually allow the evaluation of the role of inflammatory and genetic biological factors in the occurrence of antenatal onset depression on an independent cohort.
A Randomized Neuroimaging Trial of Psilocybin in Depression
Depressive DisorderMajor Depressive DisorderThe goal of this neuroimaging clinical trial is to test whether psilocybin produces significant immediate changes in functional brain activity in networks associated with mood regulation and depression compared to placebo in patients with depression. The trial aims to determine if psilocybin: changes connectivity within brain networks associated with mood and depression changes blood flow in brain regions associated with mood and depression Participants will be attend two treatment sessions where they receive an oral medication and supportive psychotherapy. At each session, participants will undergo an MRI scan after drug administration but prior to psychotherapy. Participants will be randomly to assigned to one of two groups that will receive, 1) niacin (100mg) at the first visit and psilocybin (25mg) at the second visit, or 2) psilocybin (25mg) at both visits, respectively. Differences between groups will be compared to understand what effects on brain activity are specific to psilocybin.

Major Depressive DisorderEpilepsyTranscranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is an effective treatment for depression, but clinical outcome is suboptimal, partially because investigators are missing biologically-grounded brain markers which show that TMS is modifying activity at the intended target in the brain. The goal of this proposal is to characterize the key markers of the brain's response to repeated doses of TMS with high resolution using invasive brain recordings in humans, and relate these brain markers to noninvasive recordings. These markers will improve the understanding of TMS and can be used to optimize and enhance clinical efficacy for depression and other psychiatric disorders.
Implementation of Collaborative Care for Depression in VA HIV Clinics
HIVDepressionHIV Translating Initiatives for Depression into Effective Solutions (HITIDES) is a team-based service to manage depression in Veterans Living with HIV (VLWH). This service is more effective for managing depression than the care VLWH usually receive and saves resources. HITIDES is also liked by HIV care providers and VLWH. Despite this, no VA clinics currently offer this service. This study examines two approaches to engage clinics with HITIDES, the resulting effects on VLWH, and the costs of these approaches. The first approach includes recruiting an HIV care provider at the site to help connect with the service and a network of providers to support this person. The second approach uses an additional external expert to facilitate these connections. Understanding how to connect Veterans to the HITIDES service will allow VA to improve depression care for VLWH and save VA resources.
