HDL-C in Cardiac Syndrome X

Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases3 more

High density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is in the centrum of the process of reverse cholesterol transport from peripheral cells to the liver[10]. HDL-C promotes endothelial generation of nitric oxide (NO) and improves endothelial function and arterial vasoreactivity[11]. In several studies, lower HDL-C level was reported to be associated with increased coronary artery disease (CAD) risk[12-14]. HDL-C also has anti- inflammatory and anti-oxidant activities[15,16]. Concerning anti-inflammatory activity, HDL-C inhibits the activation of monocytes/macrophages and neutrophils[17,18] and inhibits the expression of endothelial adhesion molecules, such as vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and E-selectin[15]. In this study we aimed to investigate the relation of HDL-C level with systemic inflammatory markers in patients with cardiac syndrome X (CSX).

Ethnicity and Onset of Cardiovascular Disease: A CALIBER Study

Abdominal Aortic AneurysmCoronary Heart Disease12 more

Specific cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke and heart attack, have been shown to vary by ethnic group. However, less is known about differences between ethnic groups and a wider range of cardiovascular diseases. This study will examine differences between ethnic groups (White, Black, South Asian and Mixed/Other) and first lifetime presentation of twelve different cardiovascular diseases. This information may help to predict the onset of cardiovascular diseases and inform disease prevention strategies. The hypothesis is that different ethnic groups have differing associations with the range of cardiovascular diseases studied.

Usefulness of High-frequency QRS Analysis in the Evaluation of Patients With Chest Pain

Acute Coronary SyndromeSTEMI3 more

Accurate detection of a heart attack (an acute myocardial infarction) is one of the most pressing needs in medicine. Recordings of the electrocardiogram (ECG) (electrical activity of the heart) are one of the first tools used to diagnose a heart attack, but the ECG is not very accurate, especially at the beginning of a heart attack. A new technique for analysing a special part of the ECG may provide more accurate detection of a heart attack. The study hypothesis is that this new technique, the HFQRS analysis, will provide important additional information to that available from the regular ECG.

Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Evaluate Heart Vessel Function After Angioplasty or Stent Placement...

Myocardial InfarctionAngina3 more

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is caused by a narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen to the heart. Balloon angioplasty and stent placement are two treatment options for people with reduced heart function caused by CAD. This study will use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to evaluate heart function over time in people with CAD who have undergone a balloon angioplasty or stent placement procedure.

Assessment of Diagonal Branch Territory

Stable AnginaUnstable Angina

This study was performed to investigate the anatomical attributes that determine myocardial territory of diagonal branches and to develop a prediction model for clinically relevant branches using myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) and coronary CT angiography (CCTA).

Study to Gather Information to What Extent Patients Follow the Treatment Regimen of Low-dose Aspirin...

Myocardial InfarctionStroke (Including Ischaemic Stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attack)3 more

This study aims to gather information to what extent patients follow the treatment regimen of low-dose aspirin for primary and secondary prevention of diseases of the heart and blood vessels. Researcher will collect information about the percentage of time a patient has access to the medication, how long patients continue with the medication and of the proportion of patients who switch from dual-antiplatelet therapy (including low-dose aspirin) to a single antiplatelet therapy. The study will make use of secondary healthcare data sources converted in to Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) common data model within the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) network.

Patient and Provider Assessment of Lipid Management Registry

HyperlipidemiaHypercholesterolemia15 more

The purpose of the Patient and Provider Assessment of Lipid Management Registry (PALM) is to gain a better understanding of physicians' cholesterol medication prescribing practices, patient and physician attitudes and beliefs related to cholesterol management, and current utilization of cholesterol-lowering therapies given the new ACC/AHA guideline recommendations. The PALM Registry hopes to allow for the design of ways to improve cholesterol management and decrease the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the US.

Mersey Acute Coronary Syndrome Rule-Out Using High Sensitive Troponin

Acute Coronary SyndromeAngina Pectoris9 more

The aim of this observational study is twofold. The primary hypothesis being tested is that initial(first) high sensitivity Tn <5ng/l (limit of detection) combined with an ECG with no ischaemic changes is superior as an accelerated diagnostic tool/strategy compared to TIMI score (<2), GRACE <75 and HEART score ≤ 3. (Hs tn T- Roche elecsys HS tn T) and also against HS troponin at the 99th percentile (<15ng/l with nonischaemic changes)- again all scored with initial (first tn ) only. The second aim is to directly compare the three established methods of risk stratifying patients (predicting risk in suspected heart attacks) namely, the Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE), Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) and HEART score in the era of high sensitivity troponins performs best.
