The Pilot Study of Chikungunya Virus Infections in Southern Taiwan
Chikungunya FeverThis test is to be collected during the dengue outbreak samples, including samples back in the past and forward to close the case, investigating the prevalence of serum Chikungunya virus infection, and against those suspected dengue fever, Chikungunya disease-related tests conducted to clarify dengue and Chikungunya disease of clinical judgment, rapid method to detect Chikungunya virus and then develop.
Respiratory Viral Infection in Nursing Home Slovenia
Acute Viral Respiratory Tract DiseasesThis study will be conducted in a 208-bed nursing home in Maribor. The investigators will observe a group of a 100 nursing-home residents and 50 health care workers- employees in the nursing home- in a six months period.Influenza vaccination status will be recorded in all participants at the beginning. At the beginning and at the end of the study the blood samples for vitamin D concentration determination and nasopharyngeal swabs for molecular detection of respiratory viruses will taken in all of the participants. The study will observe number of viral respiratory tract infection in participants and identify the viral etiology of infections during 6 months observational period.Nasopharyngeal swab and blood sample will be taken in each of the participant who will suffer an acute respiratory tract infection (upper or lower respiratory tract infection) and viral agents of respiratory tract diseases will be searched for. The investigators will try to detect different viral agents of respiratory tract infection: human rhinoviruses, enteroviruses, influenza A, B, parainfluenza 1-4, respiratory syncytial virus, human coronaviruses, human metapneumovirus, adenoviruses and human bocavirus with newer molecular methods (real-time polymerase chain reaction, real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction) in nasopharyngeal swab and in blood sample of the participants. During the study period the investigators will monitor the daily number of visitors (adults, preschool children and pupils) in each nursing home room. The epidemiological aspect of respiratory viral infection will be assessed. Our study hypothesis is that lower respiratory tract infections in elderly can be caused by viruses other than influenza. The investigators would like to know if hypovitaminosis D is a risk factor for respiratory tract infections in nursing home residents and employees. The investigators would also like to know if the number of respiratory tract infections in elderly correlates with the number of visitors in nursing home, small children in particular.
Do Low High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) Levels Predict Treatment Outcome in Patients With Chronic...
Chronic Hepatitis C Viral InfectionThe working hypothesis is that the low HDL serum level predict favorable response to anti viral treatment in chronic HCV (genotype 1) viral infection. This might be used to improve the rate of sustained virologic response.
Rijavithi Viral and Mycobacterium PCR Arrays in CNS Infection Study
CNS Viral InfectionThis study of neurotropic viral infection and Tuberculous CNS infection is the comprehensive investigation of CSF PCR arrays (Hybrydiaztion technique,Sybergreen and Taqman real time PCR arrays of CSF ) in suspected cases of viral CNS infection, Tuberculous CNS infection in both AIDS and non AIDS patients. Patients with clinical viral encephalitis and all meningoencephalitis including all patients with HIV/AIDS CSF and non AIDS will be banked and test for RNA and DNA viral sequence by Real time PCR arrays and IS6110 gene of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Clinical data and final diagnosis will be used to analyze the result of this PCR arrays technique compared to clinical gold standard criteria.
Studies of Patients With Skin Disease, Patients With Neurological Degenerations, and Normal Volunteers...
HealthyMuscular Dystrophy3 moreIt is proposed that patients with skin disease due to presumed immunologic, genetic or viral-induced abnormalities, patients with neurological degenerations, and normal controls be evaluated with various in vitro studies of immunologic, genetic, and virologic function. This is to include studies of peripheral blood (cells and serum) as well as studies of skin obtained with a biopsy instrument. In addition, studies of gastrointestinal function will be performed where appropriate.
Prevalence of Hepatitis c Virus Infection Among Rheumatological Patients
Hepatitis CEgypt has the highest prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the world. In 2015, the prevalence of HCV RNA was found to be 7.0%.(1) The prevalence of HCV was studied in Rheumatoid arthritis in few studies(2,3), but to our knowledge, no previous work studied it in other rheumatologic diseases.
Sensorimotor Outcomes of Children Exposed to Foetal Zika Virus Infection
Zika Virus InfectionIntroduction: It is estimated that more than one million Brazilians were infected by zika virus in the last two years. Brazilian researchers first noted the virus's potential association with microcephaly. Objective: This study aimed to describe the motor performance of children aged between 6-18 months with the diagnoses of congenital Zika syndrome. Method: This is a cross-sectional, prospective and descriptive study. The study population consisted of 31 children. Participants were evaluated using Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS) and Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM).
Study of Influenza Virus Infection in Children Hospitalized in Spain in Two Consecutive Influenza...
Influenza Virus InfectionThis is an epidemiological, retrospective and observational study, by reviewing clinical histories, of children hospitalized for influenza virus infection, their comorbidities and the treatments that have been performed
West Nile Virus Seroprevalence Under Bird Ringers
West Nile VirusIn August 2020, West Nile Virus (WNV) was isolated from a live common whitethroat for the first time in The Netherlands. Follow-up sampling showed that the virus could also be detected in mosquitos from the same location during at least a whole month of sampling. On 15 October 2020, one case of West Nile virus infection has been reported in a man who was likely infected in the Utrecht region. This is the first time that a locally acquired human case of WNV infection has been reported in The Netherlands. Six additional cases have been identified, one of which from the region Arnhem. West Nile virus infection is a mosquito-borne zoonosis. The disease, which has spread across the Northern Hemisphere in the past three decades, is now found on an annual basis in many European countries where the centre of gravity lies in Southern-European countries. Recently, WNV was reported for the first time in Germany. The virus is transmitted among birds through the bite of infected mosquitoes and incidentally infects humans and other mammals, such as horses. Around 80% of human WNV infections are asymptomatic. The most common clinical presentation is West Nile fever but, older people and immunocompromised persons are at higher risk of developing neuro-invasive disorders (West Nile neuroinvasive disease). Currently, there are no prophylaxis or specific treatment against the disease in humans. In addition, Usutu virus (USUV) was detected in The Netherlands in 2016. USUV is another flavivirus, related to WNV, and also capable of infecting humans. Disease associated with USUV infection in humans appears to be milder and only limited number of cases have been identified. During their bird catching activities, bird ringers are intensively exposed to mosquito bites at the natural habitat of the birds and at the same time of the day when mosquitoes are particularly active. The aim of this study is therefore to determine the prevalence of WNV and USUV serum antibodies in bird ringers in The Netherlands.
