Viral Infections of the Upper Respiratory Tract

Patients with allergic rhinitis frequently present exacerbation of the atopic symptoms during viral infections of the upper respiratory tract. Also, allergic rhinitis makes the mucosa more reactive to infectious agents and potentiates mucus production. The combination of dexchlorpheniramine, pseudoephedrine and guaifenesin elicits antihistaminic, decongestant and expectorant effects. The study hypothesizes is that this product is superior to dexchlorpheniramine alone in the relief of allergic symptoms and in promoting mucus elimination in atopic patients with viral infections of the upper respiratory tract.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of GB virus C (GBV-C) on the natural history of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in subjects co-infected with HIV and HCV. The other aspect of the study is to assess the effect of GBV-C on the severity of liver disease due to chronic hepatitis C in subjects co-infected with HIV and HCV. This will be done by determining the point prevalence of co-infection retrospectively then following that cohort prospectively. In addition, further individuals will be recruited in a prospective manner.

Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of NTX in adult patients (≥18 years and <60 years), with SARS-CoV-2 infection with mild symptoms of COVID-19, compared to a placebo control arm. 135 patients will be randomized to either Nitazoxanide (n=90) or placebo (n=45) (2:1). Simple blind design. Primary endpoint: eradication of virus from patients' respiratory tract secretions by the 7th day of treatment.

To date, no treatment has been shown to be effective in controlling this disease in hospitalized patients with moderate and / or severe cases of this disease. Hydroxychloroquine and lopinavir / ritonavir have been shown to inhibit SARS-CoV viral replication in experimental severe acute respiratory symptoms models and have similar activity against SARS-CoV2. Viral Infection

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) cause significant morbidity and mortality in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients in China. Antiviral drugs given either prophylactically or as early therapy for patients with detectable viral loads appear to be an effective strategy for reducing viral infections. However, long-term treatment with these drugs is associated with significant toxicity, expense and the appearance of drug resistant virus isolates ultimately resulting in treatment failure. CMV and EBV specific T cells infusion to immunocompromised patients following HSCT is able to induce a successful anti-viral response. The primary purpose of this study is to determine the safety and efficacy of the infusion of CMV and EBV specific cytotoxic T cells (CTLs) for patients with CMV and EBV reactivation or infection.
