Influence of Vitamin D Treatment on Multi-systemic Functions in Young Men With Vitamin D Deficiency...

Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D has multiple systemic effects: bone and calcium metabolism, muscle function, insulin responsiveness, body-composition regulation, cell differentiation, and the immune system. Proper status of vitamin D is found to be related to risk reduction in hypertension, cardiac and vascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, and others. Furthermore, vitamin D supplementation resulted in improved endothelial function. Limited sun exposure may lead to vitamin D deficiency, and it may be assumed that modern life styles lead to a lack of sun exposure. Long work-days may be the primary risk factor for vitamin D deficiency. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of vitamin D treatment on multi systemic functions in young healthy men with vitamin D deficiency due to working conditions.

Nursing-Home Residents Given Bread Fortified With Vitamin D3

Vitamin D DeficiencyLow Bone Density

Background. For older adults, serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) higher than 75 nmol/L lowers fracture risk and attainment of this 25(OH)D target may require 125 mcg (5000 IU)/d of vitamin D3. Objective: We wanted to characterize the safety and efficacy of fortifying bread with a biologically meaningful amount of vitamin D3.

Does Treatment of Hypovitaminosis D Increase Calcium Absorption?

OsteoporosisOsteopenia4 more

The purpose is to perform a one-year study designed to assess whether treatment of hypovitaminosis D increases intestinal absorption of calcium, subsequent retention of calcium within bone, decreases bone turnover, and favorably impacts upon skeletal muscle mass, functional status, measures of physical function and quality of life. I hypothesize that treatment of hypovitaminosis D results in improved intestinal calcium absorption, greater retention of calcium within the bone reservoir and improved physical function, quality of life and muscle mass.
