Foot Reflexology on Chronic Pain in Parkinsonian Patients

This encourage to explore new non-drug therapeutic paths, such as foot reflexology (FR). the present study proposed a comparison of the evolution of different parameters, quantitative and qualitative, to identify biomarkers and highlight the specific effect of FR on pain, compared to sham massage.

Mindfulness-Based Pain Management (MBPM) for Patients With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

Mindfulness-Based Pain Management (MBPM) is an eight-week behavioral medicine program. Based on the well-known Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program, it was specifically developed as an intervention for chronic pain. During the program, mindfulness exercises, gentle body exercises and body awareness and breathing exercises, as well as pain regulation methods are taught. Initial studies suggest efficacy of the program with regard to chronic pain, however, the effect of the standardized program in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain has not yet been investigated in a clinical study. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the MBPM program on pain acceptance in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. To this end, 40 patients with chronic (specific and non-specific) musculoskeletal pain will be randomly assigned to two study conditions. The intervention group will receive MBPM sessions of 150 minutes once a week over the course of 8 weeks, while the control group will receive standard therapy (waiting list). We hypothesize that patients will indicate a significantly higher pain acceptance after completing the program compared to patients not participating in the program.

Connected Healthcare for Individuals Living at Home With Chronic Conditions

Managing and taking medications as prescribed can be a difficult task. This is especially true for older adults living at home with chronic conditions while managing multiple prescribed medications. In response, Catalyst Healthcare has adopted an integrated medication dispensing system that intends to improve patient adherence to medications and quality of care through real-time pharmacists and caregiver support.Catalyst Healthcare has launched an integrated at-home medication dispenser system called spencer. Spencer is a natural extension that plugs into Catalyst's AdhereNet platform, connecting high-risk patients in home care setting to a multi-disciplinary care team in real-time. Study is funded by the Centre of Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CABHI). Investigators are conducting a randomized controlled trial with a target sample size of 100 participants to examine the efficacy of an in-home electronic medication dispensing system (MDS) on improving medication adherence in community-dwelling older adults with chronic conditions. 50 of these participants will be assigned to the intervention group (medication management with Spencer) and 50 will be assigned to the control group (medication management without Spencer). Medication adherence and patient-related data will be collected over a six-month period. Participants health status and characteristics will be obtained through baseline assessment upon enrollment. A monthly follow-up survey will be completed to collect medication management and adherence data. Adherence data for spencer-users will be collected from Catalyst Healthcare technology platform. In the control group, adherence will be measured through monthly medication logs completed by participants.

Evaluation of the Efficiency of the Chronic Pain Management Training Program

The research will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the web-based chronic pain management training program developed for nursing students. It is planned in a randomized controlled triple-blind design with the final year nursing students of the Nursing Department of Çankırı Karatekin University in a pre-test-post-test order.

Positive Mindfulness Program and Wellbeing in Chronic Pain

This study aims to increase the well-being of individuals with chronic pain through a 4-week online positive mindfulness programme. Each module, lasting 4 days, will include a daily meditation and focus on a different aspect of positive psychology. This is a quantitative study. The independent variable is participation in the programme. The dependent variables are: wellbeing, mindfulness, pain severity, pain catastrophising and health quality of life. There will be one experimental group who participate in the programme as soon as they are recruited. There will be one control group who are put on a 'wait-list' to complete the programme after an 8 week wait. Pre and post measures will be taken. Participants are being recruited through NHS clinics in London and Oxford, including the Pain Management Centre at Oxford University Hospitals (Churchill site) and INPUT at St Thomas's Hospital (which are participant identification centres). Participants who hear about the study via other means including online or through word of mouth are also being accepted.

Imaging Non-brain Electromagnetic Activity in Healthy Adults Using MEG

The primary purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the Magnetoencephalography (MEG) instrument to record electrical activity from parts of the body other than the brain. This study will examine if electrical activity from parts of the body, other than the brain, can be imaged by the MEG instrument. Finding will contribute to studies of pain, since abnormal electrical activity in skeletal muscle is the basis of pain, which can be severe, yet there is no non-invasive way to image this abnormal activity. This is particularly relevant to deep muscle pain and back pain.

Trial of Chronic Pain Self-Management in Clinic or Community for Low-Income Hispanics

The purpose of this study is to conduct a parallel group, randomized trial of a chronic pain self-management program in clinic or community settings to educate and support low-income, Hispanic patients with chronic pain to adopt evidence-based pain self-care behaviors and activities.
