A Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind Study to Assess Safety and Efficacy of PCN-101 in...
Treatment Resistant DepressionThis is a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter study comprised of 3 phases:screening (up to 2 weeks [Day -15 to Day -2]), In-Clinic Treatment (Day -1 to Day 2; including double-blind treatment [Day 1]), and post-treatment follow-up (7 and 14 days after infusion on Days 8 and 15, respectively). A total of 93 adult subjects with TRD will be randomly allocated in equal cohorts of 31 subjects/arm to the 3 arms of the study in a blinded manner.

Building Emotion Awareness and Mental Health (BEAM): Community Partnership With Family Dynamics...
DepressionAnxietyThroughout the COVID-19 pandemic, postpartum depression and anxiety has increased dramatically. This is problematic as mothers in Manitoba must wait 12-18 months for therapeutic services. Children exposed to maternal mental illness in the first few years of life are at risk of negative lifelong adverse effects. Thus, the investigators of this project created and have tested The Building Emotion Awareness and Mental health (BEAM) program, which is an app-based mental health and parenting program for mothers of young children who are experiencing depression and/or anxiety. BEAM is now ready to be tested in partnership with an established community agency. This partnership will enable counsellors to provide expert-led mental health treatment to supplement and expand upon existing mental health services and will enable an established agency to address widespread unmet family mental health needs through the provision of mobile health (mHealth) content, training, and consultation. A two-arm pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) with repeated measures will be used to evaluate the BEAM program compared to MoodMission (an evidence-based mHealth program) which will be the standard of care. Outcomes will be assessed to determine the effects of the BEAM program on reducing maternal mental health symptoms among a sample of 80 mothers who self-report moderate-to-severe symptoms of depression and/or anxiety (on the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, respectively), meet criteria for a current major depressive episode and/or anxiety disorder (as determined on the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview) and have a child between the ages of 6 to 18 months old.

Self-guided Treatment for Adolescents Navigating Depression
Depressive SymptomsDepression2 moreThe goal of this study is to test whether an investigational mobile app can be a helpful treatment option for adolescents with symptoms of depression. Adolescents aged 13 to 21 with depression symptoms can be part of this study if eligible. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will receive the mobile app intervention in addition to their usual care and the other group will simply continue their usual care for symptoms of depression. Both groups will have 5 weeks to use a study app, and will complete assessments during the intervention period, at post-intervention, and at one month follow-up.

Efficacy of a Brief Online Mindfulness and Self-Compassion Intervention (Mind-OP+) to Increase Connectedness...
DepressionStress2 moreUndergraduate students partook in an augmented, brief, online mindfulness and self-compassion-based program (Mind-OP+) to facilitate perceptions of connectedness. Participants were randomized into Mind-OP+ or waitlist control groups. It is hypothesized that connectedness at baseline will be negatively associated with mental health symptoms (depression, anxiety) and stress, and positively associated with self-compassion and dispositional mindfulness. Further, it is predicted that participants in the Mind-OP+ group will experience increases in connectedness compared with participants in the waitlist control condition. This study could provide support for a brief, convenient program to increase perceived connectedness, and thereby provide an option for students seeking protective factors for mental health and general resiliency.

Building Emotion Awareness and Mental Health (BEAM): Mothers of Toddlers
DepressionAnxietyDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, the prevalence of maternal depression and anxiety has increased and research suggests that the cognitive development of children born during the pandemic has been impacted. There are significant concerns that a cohort of children may be at-risk for mental illness and impaired self-regulation due to elevated exposure to perinatal maternal mental illness. Intervention is crucial as the intergenerational effects of maternal mental illness are most pronounced when mental health concerns persist. There is currently an urgent need for accessible eHealth interventions for mothers of young children as the pandemic has contributed to an increased prevalence of mental health concerns and to additional barriers to services. The Building Emotion Awareness and Mental Health (BEAM) app-based program was developed to help address maternal mental health concerns and parenting stress. A two-arm randomized controlled trial (RCT) with repeated measures will be used to evaluate the efficacy of the BEAM intervention compared to treatment as usual (TAU) among a sample of 140 mothers who self-report moderate-to-severe symptoms of depression and/or anxiety and have a child 18 to 36 months-old.

Public Health Nurse-Delivered 1-Day CBT Workshops Pilot
Postpartum DepressionPublic Health Nurses received training to deliver a day-long Cognitive Behavioural Therapy-based workshop for treating postpartum depression. Participants in the study are randomly assigned to the treatment group (1-day CBT workshop) or control group (usual postnatal care). Data will be collected from all participants at baseline, 3 and 6 months. The study will aim to assess the feasibility of our methods and estimate the treatment effect of the primary outcome in preparation for a larger RCT. Objectives include: Recruit and randomize 96 participants within 5 months Questionnaire completion - 75% of participants complete all three questionnaires and structured interviews Retention - 75% of participants remain in study until completion 75% of participants in treatment group complete the intervention Estimate treatment effect and variance

The Safety and Efficacy of MoodElite T-4003-1 on Improving Mood in a Healthy Adult Population With...
MoodThe objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of MoodElite T-4003-1 on improving mood in a healthy adult population with mild to moderate depressive symptoms not eligible for therapeutic intervention.

Affect-regulatory Characteristics of Deceptive Placebos
Social AnxietyDepressionThe study tries to identify whether specifically framed expectations, induced with an active placebo nasal-spray, have effects on affective regulation processes and rumination.

Virtual Therapeutic Garden for Depressive Symptoms
Depressive SymptomsDepression1 moreThis study evaluates the addition of virtual therapy intervention in the treatment of depression in the elderly. Half of the participants will receive virtual reality treatment as an addition to physical exercises and psychoeducation, while the other half will receive physical exercises and psychoeducation alone.

Can Acupuncture Treat Post-stroke Depression?
StrokeDepression1 moreAn 8-week, assessor-blind, randomized controlled trial will be conducted. A total of 138 patients with post-stroke depression (PSD) will be randomly assigned to the combination acupuncture treatment (CAI) (n = 69) or least acupuncture stimulation (LAS) (n = 69) for 3 sessions per week for 8 weeks. Treatment outcomes will be measured using the 17-item Hamilton Self-Rating Depression Scale (HAMD-17), the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS), and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) for depression symptoms; Barthel Index (BI) for physical function, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) for cognitive performance. The assessment will be performed at baseline and once monthly thereafter. The study will be conducted in School of Chinese Medicine Clinics, Tung Wah Hospital, Kowloon Hospital.
