Non-invasive Absolute Intracranial Pressure Measurement in Patients With Malignant Middle Cerebral...
Intracranial Pressure IncreaseThis is a single centre, observational study with a medical device which has Conformité Européenne (CE) marking. The aim of the study is to demonstrate that patients with malignant middle cerebral artery infarction (M-MCA) show an increased intra-cranial pressure (ICP) compared to neurological patients without M-MCA infarction or other space-occupying indications.

New Variants Involved in Taybi-Linder Syndrome
Taybi Linder SyndromeGenetic SyndromeTaybi-Linder syndrome (TALS, OMIM 210710) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder belonging to the group of microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfisms (MOPD). This syndrome is characterized by short stature, skeletal anomalies, severe microcephaly with brain malformations and facial dysmorphism, and is caused by mutations in RNU4ATAC. Although RNU4ATAC-associated TALS is a recognizable phenotype, an atypical presentation is sometimes observed, thus expanding the clinical spectrum (TALS-like phenotype). This study aims to identify new variants involved in Taybi-Linder syndrome and associated phenotypes (i.e.TALS-like). This non interventional study will be performed on patients with no proven mutation of RNU4ATAC and their blood relatives (19 samples total) by high throughput sequencing and genetic analysis of already collected deoxyribonucleic acid samples. Altogether, such a study will allow a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms responsible for the Taybi-Linder syndrome and Taybi-Linder syndrome-like phenotypes as well as the pathophysiology of these devastating forms of microcephalic dwarfism.

Inflammatory Markers for Postoperative Complications in Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal...
Cytoreductive Surgery With Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal ChemotherapyInfective complications after cancer surgery had a significant impact on disease-free and overall survival. Postoperative inflammatory markers have been proven useful in predicting infective complications. However, it remains unknown whether these markers can predict postoperative infection in patients receiving cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) which causes the systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Between September 2014 and April 2017, all patients who underwent cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for peritoneal carcinomatosis were assessed for postoperative complications. Patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of infective complications. Presence of abscess, positive blood, surgical site, urine or sputum cultures, or clinical signs and symptoms with comparable radiologic findings were defined as infective complications. Retrospectively, C-reactive protein (CRP), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, white blood cell count, platelet count, mean platelet volume, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, albumin were collected from preoperative day and postoperative days (POD) 0-14.

Microbiome Involvement With Barrett's Esophagus and Progression to Esophageal Adenocarcinoma
Barrett EsophagusEsophageal CancerThis study will examine the hypothesis that altered esophageal microbiome leads to the development of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC). The aims of the project are, firstly the confirmation of relational data on the study cohort, using the methods developed and applied at the laboratory at University of Queensland Diamantina Institute (UQDI). Second, to generate a tissue microarray resource future tissue in-situ validation of microbes. And finally, to develop a biobank of clinical isolates of relevant esophageal microbes for future functional studies.

Short- and Long-Term Hemodynamic Effects of Carotid Endarterectomy and Carotid Artery Stenting
StrokeCarotid artery stenting(CAS) and endarterectomy(CEA) are both important treatment strategy for patients with ICA (internal carotid artery) stenosis. Three dimensional pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL) is a noninvasive perfusion imaging modality to detect reperfusion for recanalization therapy. And it provides information about absolute CBF (ml 100 g-1 tissue min-1) at the brain tissue level. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the series hemodynamic changes in patients who had conducted CAS or CEA by using 3D pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL) to explore the potential pattern of CBF alternation and thus to improve the prevention strategy for hyperperfusion syndrome.

Glioblastoma MultiformeAngiogenesisBevacizumab has become the standard of care of recurrent glioblastoma based on promising clinical trial results with with response rates up to 50% and progression-free survival up to 9 months. In our study, we set to find the serum angiogenesis biomarkers of bevacizumab response.

Customized Shoe-padding Orthotics for Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar Fasciitis of Both FeetWhile human body receives large external force or motions, minor injuries to the soft tissues will be produced and will lead to acute or chronic inflammation reactions. Plantar fasciitis is the most common foot diseases in normal population. Plantar fascia is a tight band-like soft tissue that crosses between the bony surfaces of the bottom of the foot with thick ligament-like structure substantially. Various reasons will induce the happening of plantar fasciitis including native bone structure, aging, athletic motions and injuries. Indeed, diagnosis of chronic heel pain remains challenging due to the complex structures of the foot. Therefore, it is widely accepted that diagnostic imaging such as ultrasound and computed tomography offer important orthopedic information for clinical assessments of soft tissues and bone. Even though there is no single treatment shows the highest level of evidence for plantar fasciitis, wearing of insoles or orthotics are highly suggested for clinical therapy. Common custom-made insoles are manufactured with polymeric materials based on standing foot-pressure distribution. However, this method strongly depends on experience of doctors or physical therapists and usually time-consuming. In addition, modern medical researches tend to combine the information of both soft (pressure distribution) and hard (orthopedic) tissues for designing of orthotics and other medical assistive devices because of the complicity of the limb motion and structures. Therefore, investigators aim at developing integrated 3D system that provides a 3D limb data model with high-resolution appearance scanning and orthopedic information for designing of medical assistant devices. This model composes of 3D surface scanning, 3D bony structure scanning, and soft tissues characteristic mechanical properties. By developing this system, the 3D model is also highly applicable to the other parts of human assistant devices. It will bring the enormous impact to the associated medical field and create excellent economic value.

Cardiovascular Comorbidity in Children With Chronic Kidney Disease
Childhood Chronic Kidney DiseaseThis 3-year study will systematically evaluate the prevalence, clinical symptoms, and progression of CV and kidney disease and assess the impact of potential genetic, pharmacological, behavior, and environmental risk factors in a prospective cohort with a sample size of 125 aged 3-18 years children with stage G1-G4 chronic kidney disease (CKD). Measurements of morphological (e.g., LVMI & cIMT) and functional characteristics (e.g., FMD & PWV) of the cardiovascular system and 24hr ABPM profile will serve as surrogate end points for CV comorbidity in this study. Possible associations of these end points with multiple molecular (ADMA & urine exosome miRNA), perceived value and behavior (EQ-5D-Y), pharmacological (NHIRD and CGRD), and environmental risk factors (patient and family survey) will be explored.
