One-Stage Exchange for Chronically Infected Total Hip Arthroplasty
InfectionThe primary goal of the study is to evaluate the success rate of routine one-stage exchange for treatment of chronically infected total hip arthroplasty performed at the investigators institution, and to compare it to the current literature reporting success rate of selected one-stage exchange procedure or two-stage procedure. The secondary goal is to detect the potential prognostic factors and potential selection criteria which may influence the success rate. The tested hypothesis is following: the success rate of routine one-stage exchange is lower than that of selected one-stage or two-stage procedure

Axial Length Change in Eyes Treated by Silicone Sponge Scleral Buckling
Rhegmatogenous Retinal DetachmentAll existing medical literatue regarding axial length (AL) changes after scleral buckling surgery for retinal detachment, descibes changes after solid silicone buckling. In this hospital, the investigators use only silicone sponge buckling, which has different properties and a different buckle profile. there are no studies in the literature describing tha AL changes after sponge buckling, or whether the AL change is less or more than with solid silicone buckles. The investigators wish to determine whether the AL change profile with their silicone sponge is significantly different, and if so, whether this is clinically important in determining the better choice of buckle material to be preferred.

Taste Disorders in Middle Ear Disease and After Middle Ear Surgery
Taste DisturbanceObjectives To evaluate the impact of taste disturbance in different types of chronic middle ear diseases and after middle ear surgery. Hypothesis That patients with chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma has taste disturbance already before surgery due to the disease itself, of course depending on degree of the disease. That patients with otosclerosis, has a normal nerve function before surgery. That patients with normal taste before surgery are more likely to notices a taste disturbance. That nerve in continuity after surgery, even if it is maltreated, gives less taste disturbance than a divided nerve. Methods A clinical study has been launched that measures taste function with two different methods for taste measurements, electrogustometry (EGM) and the filter paper disc method (FPD) before and after middle ear surgery in patients operated with middle ear surgery because of otosclerosis, chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma. The investigators plan to include 120 patients in this study. A parallel study of the patients own experience of the symptom has also been launched were the patients answer a questionary and a quality of life document. The investigators plan to include 300 patients in this study. A histological study where specimens of CTN from healthy ears and from ears with chronic disease will be investigated with electron microscopy has also started.

Small Dense Low-density Lipoprotein in Patients With Prediabetes and Type 2 Diabetes
Prediabetes / Type 2 DiabetesIt is known that small dense LDL particles are associated with an increased cardiovascular risk. LDL particles can be separated by gradient gel electrophoresis (GGE) according to their size. The risk to suffer from coronary heart disease is 3-7 fold elevated in subjects with small dense LDL particles compared to subjects with large LDL particles. This study aims at evaluating the predictive value of small dense LDL particles in patients with prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus concerning future changes in intima media thickness, flow-mediated dilation and other risk factors of atherosclerosis (e.g. insulin resistance). 60 patients with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes will be recruited for the study. Assessment will include medical history (risk factors), physical examination (blood pressure, BMI, waist-to-hip ratio), collection of serum, oral glucose tolerance test, measurement of intima media thickness and endothelial dysfunction by ultrasound. All measurements will be repeated after 2 years. Data will be analysed to assess whether the amount of small dense LDL particles can predict further structural and functional changes of the cardiovascular system or changes in the severity of the disease (insulin resistance).

Changes in Inter-joint Coordination and Muscle Activation After Cruciate Ligament Injury of the...
To Investigate the Change of Inter-joint Coordination and Muscle Activation in Patients With Cruciate Ligament Injury During Stair Negotiation.Stair negotiation is an important activity of daily living. Patients with cruciate ligament injury may have difficulty in stair negotiation because of the proprioception deficit and neuromuscular deficit caused by ligament injury. However, the influence of knee cruciate ligament injury on the control of movement is still unclear. Since inter-joint coordination can provide the information of relationship between angle position and angle velocity, it may be useful to analysis the change of movement pattern. This current study aimed to investigate the change of inter-joint coordination and muscle activation in patients with cruciate ligament injury during stair negotiation.

Trunk Forward Ability in Patients With Lumbar Fusion
Fusion of SpineLumbar RegionThe hypotheses of this study are as follows: There is no significant muscle activity difference of each muscle in patients between pre and post operation. There is no significant forward reach distance/average velocity difference in patients between pre and post operation. There is no significant standard deviation of center of pressure (COP) along x axis, speed of COP along y axis during the task and COP path during the 3-sec holding phase difference in patients between pre and post operation. There is no significant muscle activity difference between muscles on both sides at post operation.

Prospective Characterization of the Heart, Aorta and Blood Pressure in Turner Syndrome. Association...
Turner SyndromeAortic Aneurysm3 moreTurner syndrome is a congenital complete or partial lack one of the female sex chromosomes affecting 1 of 2000 live born girls. The syndrome is characterized by an increased prevalence of ischemic heart disease, aortic dilation and dissection, hypertension, stroke and autoimmune diseases in general. Our study aim is: Using MRI to further characterize and find risk factors leading to aortic dilation. Using MRI to assess the degree of aortic distensibility. Using Computed tomography x-ray scanning of the heart and coronary arteries to characterize the prevalence and degree of ischemic heart disease and coronary anomalies. Using pressure sensitive ultrasound (applanation tonometry) to assess the degree of aortic stiffness when compared to controls using end points as Pulse Wave Velocity, Augmentation Index and Central Pulse Pressure.
